This final series has shifted my opinion on Starce. Really don’t want to lose him even if that means missing out on Ridley. Hes just so dependable and offers excellent flexibility.

While Ah Chee was excellent the last 2 weeks I think his spot goes to one of the kids who will quickly overtake him; Annable or Marshall
Yeah I don’t want to lose Starce. What I’ve seen on tv this final series he’s a bull down back.
I’m ok with Ah Chee going even though he played a ripper game

If someone came for Smith I'd dump him in a second. He's been on the list for 5 years, played 5 games. If you haven't emerged after 5 years. Performance after half-time vs Collingwood & match against Swans were putrid.

Sometimes have to face the harsh reality that some players just will never make it and Smith is one of them.
Considering our trouble keeping tall players on the park this season, that seems very shortsighted. Smith was out of the game for most of the season with a foot injury, and if i recall correctly he had a shortened pre-season.
If he has a good off-season and is willing to keep working on his game in the VFL next season then I’d be keeping him on the list. He’s only 22. The VFL coaches need to prioritise his ruck position next season.
Oscar & Fort aren’t going to go on forever. I’m assuming we get Draper who will be 27 when he arrives. Smith can still be his understudy. If he doesn’t improve on his shortcomings next year then the club can decide if it’s worth persisting with him.

His dad said at a VFL game that he has 3 clubs coming for him and he was frustrated with Fages dropping him. I did remind him that he'd hardly put 3 games together at any stage this year with injury and concussions so can't blame Fages. Take responsibility!! If we could trade him for a 3rd I'd jump. Has no ground game or defensive capacity. He definitely has weal=pons in marking and kicking however.

Looks like everyone is kissing Ah Chee goodbye.

I for one would be extremely sorry to see him go because he's always stood up for us when it counted and he's a total team oriented player.

I don't think anyone WANTS him to go, just based on everything we've read / seen, he's gone, so just need to accept it.

Players sometimes have to go to flourish, Keays perfect example. Dev should've gone 2 years ago when West Coast knocked. Smith is in that boat, as you said, his ground game is poor and if you can't apply pressure you won't last. Pressure by Gallop was good

Ah Chee is a victim of our depth in young players. He is older on more money and we need to keep bringing through kids rather than end up like Collingwood who are staring at a cliff

Nah, he's fine to go. As much as I hate to see him go, he's never really been that well paid for how well we know he can play. Don't blame him for chasing a big payday since it's his last opportunity to do so

The rise of Big Boy Gallop coupled with Oscar Allen coming in created the conundrum of 4 key forwards.

It’s done my head in for the past fortnight.

But it finally hit me. So simple.

The silly sub rule goes.

3 key forwards on field and 1 on the extended bench. Oscar Allen plays 2nd ruck to Draper.

Who are you leaving out for that though? I doubt our 4th key forward would be in the best 23 players taking positions out of it. Playing 3 key forward on the ground all game is also a bit worrying to me

Allen and Draper in for McInerney and Fort.

Also likely Ah Chee and Starc both leave.

Yep, we’ll see what happens with Ridley but then there’s Annable, Payne, Answerth, Kiddy, Linc and probably someone else I’m forgetting all vying for that last bench spot as well. I don’t think having a 4th key forward would be all that effective personally

Also allows us to play Rayner higher up the ground where he is super dangerous, breaking tackles and getting 20+ disposals.
We can do that with just 3 key forwards as well. The issue isn’t finding people to replace his impact up forward, it’s trying to find a spot for him further up the ground.

We’ve pretty consistently been at our worst when the forward pressure and pressure in general drops, I don’t think an extra tall is the best use of that spot personally. Lots to play out with the trade period and injuries yet though

The problem we have, is the 4 keys are simply too good to be in the 2s.

Allen and Morris locks. But Hippy (fit) and Ty.

Ty is young but physically ready now. I feel his development is fast tracked playing seniors. Don’t hold him back.
Same could be said for quite a few players though, great position to be in

Cam played big minutes out of the square against CWood and Geelong in a full forward role. Is why disposals lowish.

I feel his best value is playing higher where he touches the ball 20 times and breaks tackles.

Doesn’t need to be midfield, can do this from a forward flank.

Ok.

Let’s take the weekends sub. Reville.

The selection panel tied. Mattsmob has the casting vote.

No sub…but 5 interchange.

You playing Ty (4th tall) or Reville?
You have 4 smalls on the bench already.

I’m playing Ty.
