It's possible but hard to see why they would be happy to strengthen us, and they could hold him for a year (particularly if they don't win this year and want to have a full crack).
True. Lot of water to go under the bridge isn't there. All speculation at this point.

Not much doubt we're in the market for a key forward and how we go this year might also decide how desperate we get.

Yeah very early. We're in the most comfortable position we may ever have list wise with recent father sons and academy picks, so I'm all for being aggressive in this window. Lachie's probably got 2 years left at his peak.

I would have said Zorko was done but he looks like a 25 year old out there.

Zorks is in career best form and not having to be Captain and fly the flag every week like he did when we were crap we're really seeing what he's capable of when he's not angry and more focused on his own game. At 36 who knows but unbelievably he's winning us games . Let's hope he can keep it up with Kiddy unlikely to be back as he was in 2025.

Looks to me as if Lachie's pacing himself this year. Bar he, Zorks and Charlie we've likely got 4+ years ahead for our best players so totally agree , keep our current future guns happy and get as aggressive as we can.

Mitchell flew in to Perth last night to catch up with Allen. Roughead, Hawks list manager was in WA last week.

My read on the situation is that Oscar put his body on the line early in his career at WC, playing forward and back up ruck. And that's taken a toll on his body. He's a WA kid, born and bred Eagles fan, and captain of his club. New footy boss and list management have come in and offered him a lesser contract than what he was expecting. Both in years and money to start with. Then added games played triggers, that he might very well not be able to meet, on a revised, longer contract. Now there's talk of a new, 6 year contract, but on lesser money.

He's watched many of their older, premiership players get extensions, and barely play in the final years of their contracts, albeit these contracts were done by the previous list management people, who are no longer at the club.

However, Yeo has been extended by 2 years, and has barely gotten on the park over the last 3 years.

And to top it off, he's seen Waterman get that long term contract on good money, off the back of one good season.

So he's p!ssed at his club, that he doesn't want to leave. But he's going to get financial security elsewhere.

Right now, he's going out there and just going through the motions, because his head is not in the right place to see him perform.

Agreed, they are my posts and at the time I wanted Casboult, but I said he 'strikes me as another Josh Schache', not 'was', selective quoting is very uncool. My booboo I guess but does that mean I have no right to comment again? I guess I already know the answer, right? Play the man not the idea. GG GH17 and you.

Certainly you do. So I seek a comment from you. Who are this year's equivalents of Brown and Casboult we should be recruiting instead of Allen?

Maybe but unless he shows more resilience then well maybe AFL isn't for him. WC culture seems off right now, but he is also a club leader. Doesn't seem to be leading much, our captains during the bleak years at least stood up week after week. I worry about his mental fortitude, for a guy who offers a very small upgrade or no upgrade, on our current set up at this current time, do we really need to commit salary cap space to him? I'm willing to wait and see, but as for getting into a bidding war with other sides for his services, right now, I say no.

That's a bit of stretch for mine (AFL isn't for him).

For all we know, as alluded to above, he may already know he's out the door, be torn (over what is likely his last "big contract"), and possibly even struggling with confidence in his body.

Our Captains may have stood up, but they didn't have conjecture over their future hanging over their heads every week.

We've seen plenty of players go off the boil (league wide) when in the last year of their contract - we can't expect them to be robots. For him, there's probably an added element that he's a home-grown talent, so he's also moving away from his support network (potentially). I can see how it could weigh on anyone.

Clearly if he continued to play at the current level, we wouldn't touch him, but I think he has significant (untapped) talent, that would likely thrive in a better team.

That being said, if we're also into Mitch Lewis, provided we're confident we've got chips to trade, I agree, no bidding war required.

I do think Allen playing Lions/Hawks off to get a better deal at the Eagles.
if he still not got the years and $$ he wants later in the year he tour both to put pressure on the Eagles.
Do not think he leave WA.

At this point I'd probably rather invest in fast tracking Gallop in 2026 than spending bit and giving 6 years to Allen who can't ruck anymore and looks to be struggling with no guarantee to get back to his best. Allen wants a big deal from 3 clubs but at this stage he'll have to earn it.

Agreed. At worst, stick with Day, Fort and Smith this year + get some games into Gallop. Do the same next year unless you can get say JUH really cheap on a short-term deal. Otherwise, if it isn't working by end of next year, bring in Lewis for basically nothing if Hawks want to play hardball this year.

No guarantee Allen will earn a contract that hits band 1 at this point.

Perryman and Battle's deals got Band 1. Part of the issue is that the AFL is comparing salaries against the current average/top earners, not taking into account the cap increase under the CBA.

Gallop shows promise but we can't bank on him - he was a pick in the 40s. Recruit a proven player imo.

Mitchell and the hawks are incredibly on the front foot in going after who they want to upgrade their team. I do wonder if/when this will start to cause issues. Im pretty sure there are other clubs getting annoyed at them. And I do wonder if their is a few guys internally who might get annoyed at them openly shopping to replace them. Maybe we should be pushing at some of their other kids to see who is feeling hard done by

How far off do you think Gallop is Nunez ? He's only 19.

I'm going cold on Allen. Whether it's just his body language or not he's just not moving as if he's ever going to get the ball. The fact that he's Captain of the club and can't seem to nail down a deal with them is also not positive.

Maybe reading too much into it . But if not having a good option down there costs us a flag this year we'll bite the bullet on somebody. Then again if we win it or get close as we are maybe we'll look internally as to when Gallup can impact. Presently if Hipwood gets injured we're just about out of tickets. Morris is still a kid and his form could fluctuate.

I can't believe Rayner would do this after everything I've done for him in the Rayner mainboard thread. I'm disgusted and have called the club to express my anger.
