So who is out starc replacement then? He's 175cm. Hardly a replacement for Starcevich. He'd be competing for Answerth's role if anything.

I'd give Shadeau Brain first crack at the lockdown "Stace" role. As Squizz89 posted I also think Luke Beecken would be worth a shot, another option could be Bruce Reville.
IDK, I’ve always had a fair degree of animosity towards any player that turns their back on the Lions and would rather play for an opposing club b/c they’d rather be somewhere else than here, knowing they’re electing not to be here.
There just seems a changing attitude nowadays that a lot of people are just accepting of it and encouraging them to leave.
I have no animosity towards players that need to leave when we haven’t offered them a contract like a Ben always, Dev Robertson but when it comes to blokes like Dan McStay, Sam Docherty and the like, I certainly don’t wish them success. There’s no right or wrong but I just don’t get the love for guys that would rather be elsewhere. Each their own I guess.
Exactly this. If we offered Cal the same money he is staying. It’s a lions issue that we can’t match the financial terms of either player. Cal would have preferred to stay here.
Brisbane has two key free agents to lodge but looks more likely to lodge deals for Sam Draper and Oscar Allendeeper into the free agency window, which runs until next Friday, October 10.PLAYERCARDSTART12Oscar Allen

Well yeah exactly. My point.Noah
I kinda agree BUT Tasmania has $3 million in the first year and $2 million in the second year, outside the salary cap, for a sign on bonus. We are going to loose 1 for sure. Let's say Aschroft/Morris have 3 premierships then gets offered a $1 million sign on bonus with a second $1 million the next year - thats outside the salary cap. Then at the same time they are getting $2 million a year in the salary cap. We need to minimise what they can take like Gary Ablett to the Gold Coast. Even if we have a 2 level list ourselves, let's call it the Pro's and the Draftees and are not carrying mid level players on long contracts not playing regular seniors. We have more levers to pull now. For example we could get Annable this year, draft the bare minimum - offload the 2026 picks to 2027 if we feel the top academy prospects are just mids.
We can space out our next big draft intake and line it up to a 2-3 year window when we feel there'll be a good draft. In the mean time invest in the ones already in books and see if we can compete at the pointy end.
A few clubs and definitely ours will be losing a star to the Devil.I kinda agree BUT Tasmania has $3 million in the first year and $2 million in the second year, outside the salary cap, for a sign on bonus. If I was Tassie, it's the Lions I'm coming after, great culture, continued success, great habits etc and players already achieved continued success that will move for a big, once in a life time, offer.
Someone from within the club I'd imagine. Answerth is out for part of the season but he'll assume the role on the oppositions best small once he's back. One of Bruce, Lester, Doedee, Brain Beecken etc will replace him in the interim you would think. They're all pretty handy options. So who is out starc replacement then?
From those in the rehab group McCarthy, Berry, Dunkley, Coleman and Doedee should get in a decent chunk of pre season training and be available early in the season... albeit you would think after such a long time out Linc, Kiddy and Tom will need a few games in the VFL to get up to speed.I think Ah-Chee and Starcevich leaving could/will be good for the Clubs success in the long term.
The cap usually does not allow clubs to keep a good team together for too long.
The draw makes it harder for top 6 teams to stay top 6 the following year
We are lucky in 2026 that we will be able to bring in another youngster being noted as a top 10 pick
Just need to find another Morris, Gallop diamond in the draft or pick up another experienced role player in trade period.
Depends a little on what we end up with after delisting, trading and the draft.
At present the likely ins and outs
Out: Ah-Chee, Starcevich & Dev
IN Allen, Draper and Annable
Rehab group: Payne, Hipwood, McCarthy, Answerth, Berry (shoulder), Dunkley (shoulder and ankle)
???? on McInerney, Coleman, Doedee
Possibly some others getting minor fixes that we don't know about yet.
These are apparently our present draft picks. Taken from BF main board. Total Points at present 1522
Pick 5 points needed for 2026 are 1795

With all teams having 6 months off, I’d personally like to back them in, pre-season will be the same for everyone. From those in the rehab group McCarthy, Berry, Dunkley, Coleman and Doedee should get in a decent chunk of pre season training and be available early in the season... albeit you would think after such a long time out Linc, Kiddy and Tom will need a few games in the VFL to get up to speed.
Bruce would be a decent shout, though I'd imagine he could be better suited to replace Ah Chee. Lester already in the defensive set up and won't play Starc role. Doedee, Brain and Beecken have shown nothing to me to suggest they can adapt to Starc shutdown role when given the chance.Someone from within the club I'd imagine. Let's hope they can develop as the Lions will be struggling to hold the prime small forward/resting mid once Starc leaves if those are the names you can provide.
Out of that list Bruce is the only one I would consider capable albeit needs a lot more time to hone his defensive craft. Unless Doedee can find his prior form when he was at the Crows but im not holding my breath.
Met Matho after the QF. Seems like a really down to earth bloke. Basically saying how he's just one of us now, just a massive fan.Matho stopped for a chat and photo. He seems like a good guy.
The NGAs were started to stop clubs complaining about the Queensland and NSW academies. It's a bit sad that Healy is taking the proposed reasoning behind it on face value. Not a big fan of Gerard Healy but he makes a lot of common sense here >

The NGAs in theory were designed to bring new players from diverse backgrounds to the system, but in the 12 years of its existence not one has been added. Not one!
And yet in that time players like Isaac Quaynor, who played for Victoria throughout his junior years, through to Isaac Kako last year, who also has been in the system ever since his early years, have been plucked by clubs simply because they’re in their zones.
Add the names of Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, Marcus Windhager, Mitch Owens, Mac Andrew, Buku Khamis and many more and you can see how distorted the draft has become - because they should all be in it, and not just a bonus pick for the lucky club.
None of these players were added to the system; they were already in it.
I’ll spell it out loud and clear.
If you’ve been in the system through your development years, you are ineligible for NGA status, no matter your cultural heritage. No more rorts that kill the draft.
Did you at least get some trade value on the deal?I don't think anyone is encouraging our players to leave, it's just accepting the fact that players move on for varying reasons.
More dramatic but similar is when my wife and I split, I only wanted/and still do good things for her in the future... I can not see the point in being bitter.
