If Allen comes to The Lions it will not be for the money because Brisbane just dont pay big money.
I'm still not convinced we need him at this stage either. Arent we 5 zip right now? Going along Ok with what we got I believe.

We don't need him, but right now our forward stocks are not great if Hippy or Morris were to go down, and we're running Day, who has no scoreboard impact.

Extra stuff on Jaspa:

LION CUB PRIME TARGET FOR FOOTY’S NEWEST TEAM

Breakout Brisbane young gun Jaspa Fletcher’s Tasmanian links could make him a prime target for the Devils.

But Lions fans shouldn’t be too worried about the chances of their father-son leaving Brisbane any time soon.

Brandon Starcevich’s concussion issues have led to a move to defence for Fletcher and the 21-year-old is in career-best form down back.

Against the Western Bulldogs in the thrilling comeback win at Norwood Oval, Fletcher finished with 25 disposals and six marks, winning praise from Brisbane coach Chris Fagan for helping keep the Lions in the game in the first half.

More performances like this will surely be piquing the interest of whoever becomes the Devils list boss, with Fletcher’s Tasmanian links strong.

While he was born in Victoria and grew up in Brisbane, Fletcher’s father Adrian — also a former co-captain for Fremantle — is in the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame after beginning his career at Glenorchy as a 17-year-old in the old TFL in 1987.

Fletcher is out of contract at the end of next year and could sign a two-year deal, taking him to 2028 where he would be in line for a huge paycheck from the Devils.

But in good news for Lions fans, he says he is Brisbane through-and-through.

“I’m very happy here at the Lions, it’s a great club,” he said after last weekend’s win over the Bulldogs.

“The players and staff have been massive for me.

“I am a Queenslander at heart. I was born in Vic but I grew up in the Sunshine State so I do call it home.”

Fagan was also confident about Fletcher remaining a Lion long-term.

“He’s lived in Queensland all his life so I don’t think so … I used to play against him (his dad in Tassie) when I was an old bloke and he was a young bloke,” Fagan said.

I'd honestly rather the club trade 3 1st round picks for Ethan Read than to sign Oscar Allen on a free.

3 late first round picks. I’d do that deal in a heartbeat.

#1 it is never happening because GC won't do it, so stupid comparison. Yeah i'd rather trade 3 first rounders to Adelaide for Thilthorpe than get allen.

#2 not convinced Read can do enough up forward, which is what we currently need. Spend resources getting flags now, not building for our team in 2028 which is when Read would be at his peak

#3 3 first rounders takes us out of 3 drafts (unless we lose other quality players to bring in more), and I want picks kept safe for academy rortz. I'm not weakening my chance of getting Annable for a guy who has kicked 8 career goals.

We have some promising guys in the VFL who I would prefer we continue to bring on rather than buy someone like Allen.

Yeah, spend resources like draft picks now to get young talent. I would love the club to get these $1.5million key forwards from other clubs like Thiltorpe and Sam Darcy too but we're going to be spending cap space on renewing Ashcroft and Fletcher soon I'd rather keep them and get a younger and cheaper key forward than to spend $800k on Oscar Allen.

This place is great because one moment some people are saying they’d really like Sam Draper and then the next some people are talking like Oscar Allen will bring a curse upon the club if he’s ever signed.

If our forward line is fine we should still sign him if we can because it will make the forward line better. Gallop had one touch in his last VFL game. I think he has what it takes but he won’t be another Morris who will come in and make an instant impact. We have Sam Day who hasn’t kicked a goal in our side right now. Oscar Allen is an immense improvement.

I think you're going to be disappointed, Oscar Allen has the same talent level as Hipwood.

Is Essendon allowing Draper to enter FA as an unrestricted fa a massive doo doo?

I don’t rate Draper but he is an established player coming into his prime years. Because of Essendon’s terrific contract work seems like he will either walk to Adelaide and Essendon will receive woeful compensation or Essendon will have to overpay to keep him.
RFA status is irrelevant to compensation. They'll only get woeful compensation if Draper wants to take unders to go home.

Isn’t it relevant to whether Essendon can force a trade if they don’t like Adelaide’s offer and the compo they’ll receive as a result?

Only if Draper signs a contract for huge unders. And why would Draper do that? Mature big men don't grow on trees. He has plenty of bargaining power.

Now there's a stretch. He is never going to be worth what other offers he will get.

You honestly don't think a fully fit and firing Oscar Allen can't kick 40 goals? Hipwood would have kicked 40+ if it weren't for his groin last year too.

I have cooled on Allen, but we would be recruiting him with the idea we can get him back to his best. He is very clearly capable kicking 40+ given he kicked 53 goals a few years ago. For the right price, he's a very worthwhile risk.

What's the right price? I personally don't think he's much better than what we have, have coming. Just sucking up salary cap space as there will be a bidding war for him.

A fully healthy Allen is an upgrade on any tall forward on our list now.

However, his health has a very big asterisks on it.

I do worry what type of money triggers band 1 compensation this year, with the rise in the salary cap.

If Allen is fit, he realigns our tall forward structure, which means Morris once again has the opposition third tall defender marking him.

And he and Hipwood fit the time line for Gallop and Boothey coming through to the senior team.

Apparently discussions underway for 2 year Levi extension and long term will deal

Levi one was done the day he was drafted. Me thinks they will announce both together.

Very interesting that Mitch Cleary started randomly talking about the Daniher comparison with Allen last week - and the specific changes to the compo formula that you can't just give them a 3 year deal, get band 1 compo and do a later extension with much cheaper value.

Would not be that surprised if it ends up in a situation where Allen doesn't generate band 1 compo and WCE have to think about having to match to force a trade - but a trade where there isn't much prospect of better value than an end of round 1 compo pick.
