We will probably ask the question again at the end of 2026. Doubt Ridley would want to stay if the injuries to the team keep happening.

I hope we would've moved on by then and will have our own re-signing priorities. He's contracted till 2029 and will cost a fair bit both in trade and $ (in spite of injuries).

The only other reason I can think of us going for Ridley again - if one of our players want to go to Bombers at end of 2026 and we're looking at player trade in addition to draft picks. May be Bombers cover bulk of his salary for next 3 years of his contract and we get him with minimal cap hit - yeah sure. Worth a try.

Think Ridley has hit Bennell/Freeman/Cockatoo territory. Talent is there but the soft tissues just cant hold together

Yes but also Essendon’s strength and conditioning / medical is cooked. So it’s hard to know the extent.

Actually, they have a new s&t coach. From West Coast. So is their list manager, one of their senior scouts, their vfl scout. And West Coast had a really good injury record (not) the last few seasons.

Not exactly the best place to poach staff in that field from ...

I can't remember where I saw it, but I recall reading a story from someone who previously worked at Essendon in the fitness department. They said that their indoor oval they use for training is really hard underfoot which easily allows injuries to occur

I think I might have come up as part of one of their reviews

when I saw this photo of Cal in a crows Guernsey I couldn't help but think, it doesn't suit him.

But he supported Adelaide as a kid and Adelaide is closer to Perth so.....
It surely must be about money. Moving to Adelaide because his auntie and uncle live there is really stretching the truth imo. And saying he is closer to Perth might be true in distance terms, but he would still have to fly there, and how many times a year would he be doing that? He seems to be very happy with his manager ‘Benny’ Williams and how he handled the situation,so that says a lot about Cal imo.

Some jumpers just don't suit some people, unlike the Lions jumper which just happens to suit almost everyone.

We sort of got 3 out of the 10.

3 - Oscar Allen (Brisbane)

The reigning back-to-back premiers don’t need much, but the former West Coast captain could make Brisbane an even scarier prospect in 2026.
After Joe Daniher’s retirement, the Lions were still a powerful offensive force in 2025, but their main weakness was still a lack of a real power forward.
If Allen can perform close to as well as he did even two years ago in 2023, where he kicked 53 goals in a poor Eagles side, then the Lions are every chance of making it three in a row.
The big question is his health, with Allen playing just 23 games in the last two years combined. If he and the club get that right, look out.

9 - Brandon Starcevich (West Coast)

10 - Callum Ah Chee (Adelaide)

It’s hard to know though I suppose. He probably feels he has to be careful vid. He is now at Adelaide and they are tight with his manager. Everyone knows his gone for the money but I think you can see when he talks about Brissy how much he loves the club.

Of course it is about the money and the length of deal. There is no shame in that at all. I'd assume his partner is from South East Queensland so leaving her family to be closer to his Aunty and Uncle make little sense.
