I prefer to think of Fages as a bit of a fibber when it comes to protecting his players and his own and their integrity. He always puts the welfare of the team and his players first and in this case is clearly steering clear of putting Oscar Allen into a another media shitefest.

Did you know that Daniel Rich & Norman Gunston both came to see Fagan & asked to be dropped....

Lying is the second language of the afl. Fagan is only protecting our players.
Reminds me when he was asked about Joe Danihers rumoured retirement "first i heard of it".
club champion dinner "yeah he rang me a year ago and we had a chat and he said he would do it this year"

Facinating and concerning how poster like yourself can call our coach a liar.

Except he’s right.

And it’s not the first time Fagan has told porkies to protect a player or the playing group.

Definitely, which is consistent with his ‘father figure’ approach. The contrast between Hawthorn’s approach, versus ours, may be the difference between who Oscar chooses to go to.

I’ve got zero issues with Fagan being opaque in this regard, in fact I think it’s likely to be an endearing quality for both current and prospective players given they know they can confide in him with the confidence it won’t be regurgitated to the media or others.

"Have you heard the comments this week about Joe's retirement?"

Fagan: "First I've heard of it."

What everyone thinks he means: "He hasn't heard of Joe's retirement plans."

What Fagan means: "Joe told me this a year ago, but it's the first I've heard of any comments made this week."

🤯🤣

Look, I don't mean to be disrespectful, but... have you followed sports for long? Coaches and officials lie all the time. Fages plays the game just like all the others.

There is an old Jesuit way of looking at this that I agree with….These are not so much lies. They are not Fagan’s truths to tell.
If Joe wanted the football world to know he was retiring, it was up to Joe to say it, not Fages.
If Allen wants to tell the football world, he’s thinking of moving to Brisbane, that’s Allan’s truth to tell.
Fages tells the truth that is his to tell but the truth that belongs to others belongs to them.

"Conversation with Oscar Allen" - yep no. May be a teams call with Lions Leadership team and Oscar? well that's not conversation, that's a group chat. Discussions with his manager? well that wasn't the question !

Fagan playing 4D chess with media :D

"heard the COMMENTS this week?"

"first time I've heard of it" (the comments)

Did Joe discuss with you about his retirement plan? Fagan would've straight up said No and then say "ah of course I forgot about that one. It was a brief chat and nothing really happened after that". They can keep trying but can't pin it on Fagan either way.

Being aware that Joe would have pulled the pin if we won the year before and hung around to finish the job means both that you 'knew' internally it was happening while simultaneously hoping that he had decided he wanted to hang around a bit more and leaving it to Joe to bring up works for me ...

Geez. In any business or aspect of life it's often prudent to not tell the whole truth ,or be silent and evasive to simply not cause unnecessary distress ,risk misinterpretation or disadvantage others. Or even to protect your own position/situation.

Lying is a deliberate mistruth designed to mislead to advantage oneself personally ,financially or to absolve responsibility.

I would think footy coaches would have to be well versed in the former every week.

It seems to me that we've got Allen locked up provided all goes as it is this year.

Can't see us having any interest in JUH unless something dramatic changes and it looks no hope right now. I doubt he'll get any other offers either as things stand.

Don't discount Sydney and Port yet.

I like when he pretends to not know something which he would clearly be aware of. Should have run with that - ‘I’m not aware of a - Oscar Allen did you say?’.

Under the circumstances the AFL's call on MSD is as fair as they could make it.
I wonder how much it will change the order when the time comes.
.............................................

A WINNING percentage ladder will determine the AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft order due to the postponement of Gold Coast and Essendon's Opening Round game.

The mid-season rookie draft order is usually generated the same as the end of year draft order in reverse fashion, however the upcoming mid-season draft after round 11 will see a unique arrangement deployed by the AFL.

Yeah, but once you accept SL is obviously a passive-aggressive troll (probably an alt of another troll) who blew in here 11 days ago, it all makes sense really. ;)
