$800k is 4.5% of next year's salary cap.

By comparison, 4.5% of 2022's salary cap was $600k.

Daniher was ~$750k in 2021, 5.6% of our cap that year.

You guys need to catch up with how much the cap has skyrocketed. $800k is a bargain to lure a good KPF out of a club.
Even less than I thought. If that's the case, Collingwood paid that for McStay who, whilst I did enjoy his marking capabilities, has a far lower ceiling than Allen with a similar injury history.

Joe's true market value the last couple of years (and if he had played on for 2025,26, etc) is easily 1.2 mil. Might be closer to 1.5 frankly - if 7 years of DeKoning for St Kilda = 1.7m then 30 year old Joe is comfortably 1.5m.

Very much underpaid by the time he retired. I imagine we would have been prepared to offer him an increased salary package if that would have kept him playing.

God I miss him :'(

58 goal a year 80/20 forward who won finals off his own boot. Basically top end of that market for that position, I agree.

Wa very funny on fox after the game last night when Browny was pressed who would ruck if Oscar Allen replaced Day. To say he was less than impressed by Hippys rucking would be an understatement

Hopefully a preseason working with the rucks will help Hippy but it is an issue unless we play an extra tall

He's so skinny if a 130kg ruckman touches him he will explode.

Is it an issue? I thought everyone knew Day was a stop-gap player for the forward/2nd ruck role that Joe played and I assume we want Allen to play.
Also, Fox Footy said a few weeks ago that it's likely Day retires this year I think.

They're of the opinion that if Allen rucks both his knees will explode

I think if Day was going to retire, he would have done it after not being resigned by the Suns.
His next milestone is 36 games away and going on his previous 4 years playing that is about 8 years from now.
However, this year he has played 9 solid games for the Lions and that is his most since 2020 (17).

If he gets through the remainder of the rounds that will be 17 games for 2025 with hopefully some finals to go with that.

This is the thing that's so stupid about St Kilda whinging all the time. They complain about our high draft picks, father-son, etc but none of that resulted in us getting Morris, Lohmann, Starc, Wilmott or Bailey. I'm sure all of these guys would have been on the board at St Kilda's pick.

Our draft team often goes for players no one is talking about but they see something special in. The fact Morris got through to 39 or whatever and they didn't get him is purely on them.

Give Day 2 more years. I am not a crackpot.

Not yet. He's not going anywhere so plenty of time to see the lie of the land at season's end.

The funniest thing about Morris was the look on Fagan's face after he took his second speccy in his first practice match. Fagan turned to the others in the box with this incredulous look on his face as if to say who the hell is this guy.

Which begs the question how did he get to pick 31. If he was doing that in his first turnout it was nothing to do with us and surely that sort of talent must have been evident just a few months prior.

I'm interested in any perspectives of those who follow the draft.

Surely it’s just being sub 195cm and not a jump off the screen great athlete? Hard to imagine what else it was given the stats in under 18s are pretty good.

He’s clearly a better athlete than people thought (though not elite per se), and most importantly is just a natural footballer with a great sense for space and anticipation.

Still think the two most impressive things he has is how rarely he is out marked as an 20 year old giving away cm and kg and how good his on field vision is. The goal assists against the bulldogs last year immediately come to mind.

Didn't have the measurements expected of top KPFs.

Draft an undersized KPF like Logan and it's going to be a bust 9 times out of 10. The draft is all about maximizing your chance for success - it's not that we were particularly insightful drafting him (otherwise we would've taken him earlier), it's more that our needs, evaluation, and pick all aligned.

Pick no: 31 has been very good for us.
Next time we have another pick 31 you can be guaranteed we'll draft a Brownlow medallist, or a Norm Smith medallist, or a Merret/Murray medallist, or a multi AA and every other award that's on offer.

Oh, yeah and a few premierships to boot.

Do we have a pick 31 in this draft?

In fairness to the recruiters don’t think we had an earlier pick or the capacity to trade up?

But luck is a massive part of it too, down to other teams not picking him and him getting a debut due to injury then an injury crisis keeping him in the team and developing.

I don’t think he’d be nearly as good at other teams where the ball movement is genuinely an atrocity.

I thought Logan was Aaron Cornelius mk2. Doing a bit better than he did (albeit in a much better team).

Yep. It's been my perspective that for some time clubs draft pure athletes over footballers once you get beyond say the top 6 or 7 in the draft.

Is he that undersized ? Fogarty and Georgiades are 1.92 , Curnow 1.94 ,Hogan 1.95 , Cameron 1.96.

Morris has the perfect build imo and will really bulk up as well over the next few years.

In addition some of his other attributes are potentially bordering on elite. Hard to think that wasn't evident a couple of years ago. If you look at all the great marks in the game over the years none of them were particularly tall.

Yeah, part of that was because I got the Logan/Luke draft order confused - I thought Lloyd got picked first.

I find it hard to believe he is actually 191cm - seems at least 1-2 cm taller.

He is. Anyone I know who's seen him in the flesh have been surprised at how big he is.

I think Reiwoldt commented that he ran into him in the carpark before a game and didn't expect him to be so tall. He towered over me he said ,or something to that effect. Maybe he's grown an inch or so since the draft. It's possible
