the comments on that post was gold.

They keep talking to Joe Daniher

"who doesn't even have a phone"
"who does not use social media"
"who's pretty much unreachable in any normal means unless you track him down and stand in front of him"
His Dad is the normal middle man regarding footy....maybe ask him.

How does that even work with the “rumour” of Joe and Sydney? I could be misremembering, but I thought there were rules for when players break contract that if they return, they have to return to the same club (or enter into the draft) unless it’s past X amount of time? I seem to remember the conversation coming up with both McKenna and Liam Jones; as for the exact timeframe I’m not sure but it wouldn’t have been <2 years.

Happy for someone to tell me I’m wrong though, but I’d imagine there is a safeguard in place to stop people skirting trading/drafting rules and going where they want.

Interesting to hear that bit about Zorko and coaching. I thought he was definitely going down the media path. Always thought he was a bit more of a natural compared to many other players that have gone through recently. And while there is a limit to the number of them that can go into the media, I thought he had a chance at being the token QLD person.

Also amazed he is going around again. I swear he looked done 2-3 years ago but he has turned it around big time. Definitely proving me wrong and not to write guys off

Zorko would be so much better in the media than coaching. Dont think he would last 1 season in the coaching game.

I think his pathway would require Lynch retiring for Fox. Channel 7 has just gone through a big restructure of their football program so they may not be needing personnel.

Are you saying Channel 7 & Fox would be loyal to their employee's even if there was an opportunity for them to snag a better man?

Yeah I love Zork but think his antagonistic nature would work against him with modern kids.

If this article from 2021 is still correct, any player who has retired from the game can't re-join a list for 12 months but can then go to a club of their choice.
A Retired Player and/or a Player who has delisted themselves and has not been on an AFL list for one year or more.
Similar to McKenna retiring from Essendon and then joining Brisbane at the end of 2022

Wouldn't surprise me if Joe was open to another season, but we'd already committed to Allen and bringing both in doesn't fit our cap and list profile, therefore the Sydney door opened up.
Naaah, if Joe is wanting to come back, he will be in Lions colours 100%. Already agreed to when he stepped away.

Joey is happily retired and if he were to comeback to AFL he would choose the Lions and he would be welcome back by all
Brad Lloyd under ‘incredible pressure’ to keep job, players whack ‘tough’ ban and everything you missed on TV Tuesday night
Joe Comeback A No-Go
Rumours of a Joe Daniher comeback have been quashed by the Midweek Tackle.
There had been talk the premiership Lion, who retired after the flag last year, was potentially returning to footy.
Jon Ralph said on Midweek Tackle that Sydney was keen on the key forward, but he was a “0% chance”.
“He’s not making a shock comeback,” Ralph said.
“The market is so thin that clubs are asking about him.
“He’s been linked to Sydney in the last week or two, they were the club that was really interested in him initially and then he found his way to Brisbane.
“Sydney’s asking everyone including Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, but Daniher is really well set up financially, he’s not interested in the money.
“I think if he was 1% chance he’d come back to Brisbane anyway, people close to him say he’s 0% chance, he’s got businesses to interest him as well.”

Don't get me wrong I don't think he's coming back, but I can see how a situation like that would eventuate from the outside looking in.

Some insights from Scott Lucas on Gettable today:
  • Gardiner: Body is better than it was pre-ACL
  • Fletcher: Playing good footy, minimal conversations with the Lions on a new contract (OOC 2026) but nothing significant
  • Doedee: Said the same thing Fages said about him. He's finding consistency in the VFL after not playing for 2 years & had a few minimal injury concerns when playing this year.

BRISBANE LIONS

In great news for all involved, the Lions and restricted free agent Brandon Starcevich have come back to the table on a contract extension at Springfield. The Lions have always been ready and willing to keep the flag hero, however the length of the deal had initially caused a misalignment between the two parties given his history of concussion issues. Externally, noise around the future of West Coast co-captain Oscar Allen just won’t go away, despite his season-ending injury. And in recent weeks, you can add Sam Draper to the list of potential recruits — and the Lions’ current ballpark offer could be enough to snatch him out from under the nose of Essendon or Adelaide, as revealed by foxfooty.com.au last month. The future of star Callum Ah Chee and the injured Lincoln McCarthy remains an interesting one, with the duo headlining a number of key players still unsigned as Round 16 approaches. If the first half of this year is a metric to go by, Dayne Zorko and Ryan Lestershould go around again on one-year deals, while the out-of-contract Darcy Gardiner looks set to replace an injured Jack Payne for the remainder of the season down back. Premiership player Conor McKenna also still has plenty of football ahead of him if he chooses to play on.

Would love to lock away Starce for another 2 or longer.
Whatever gets him to that unrestricted free agency, happy to sign him up for it.

IMO Zorko is similar to Leppitsch in that he would make a great assistant coach, senior coach not so much.
Even his commentary on coaching was more at the one on one level rather than over all strategy things.
