List Mgmt. 2025 List Management Discussion

Just visited the Freo board, and it’s essentially 15 pages of angst and anger at the trade, and hoping the AFL vetoes it in the morning. Much of it being led by their draft & trade moderator.
Yeah its a weird one. I get the why did we get involved in this to lose value argument. But it needs to be put in context with shallow draft, they got McVee already whos best 22 and rest of the picks may be just NGA.

Pick 12 may have become 19 but with Gold Coast, Carlton and us burning picks through for bid match- it'll roll back up from 19 to 15 anyway. 167 points loss which is around pick 44 45 which they may not even use.

There was a possibility they could have used 16, 23 & 37 to trade up to Gold Coasts pick 7. Plus Starcevich and picks 1 & 2.
What is Gold Coast list spots like ?
Maybe theyre not in a position to make a 3 for 1 trade, especially with the like of Forini, Rosa and Ainsworth potentially going more draft assets in this draft.

Decent chance they’ll get an overall better offer than that.

This could become a significant trade period for Gold Coast similar to what GWS used to do. They can offload the excess talent and see if he can get missing pieces to go hard next year. Also as part of offloading they can load up on future firsts to target the cream of the crop in the following draft. That was GWS strategy to keep their finals run going as well as keep the talent pipeline strong.

Ainsworth, Flanders, Fiorini, even Rogers and Walter could all be game this trade period.

Shaping up as a huge off season for Gold Coast, the ins of Petrecca, JUH, Uwland and Patterson could be similar to our 2022 which ultimately tipped us over the edge.

I think they will concentrate on their player trades to keep maximum flexibility, then switch to consolidating / maximising drafting position after that.

West Coast clearly wanted the deal done reasonably earlier, with Good Coast likely wanting to hold off.

My personal view is they need more reinforcements in defense. I didn't rate their defensive lineup in 2025 - may be Charlie Ballard going down may have skewed things a little.

Uwland, Andrew, Collins doesn't instill confidence in me.

They need re-jig like how Hawks did, bringing in Barrass and Battle.

It’s very good isn’t it.

We were selling to willing buyers at the current fair market price.

Gotta admit, as much as it used to frustrate me, I've now grown a soft spot for the annual tradition of posters from opposition sides trying to score non-existent points by arguing about trades with non-existent inside knowledge and a non-existent say in actual proceedings.

Starcevich deal is 4 years plus triggers for 5 & 6. Reasonable protection for Eagles should he be medically retired given the current AFL salary cap protection in place for the first 4 years of any contract in such circumstances.
The contract was always touted as a 6 year deal with a trigger for the 6th year only so I suspect this might have been a post GF iteration.

Yeah I am gutted. I am not saying you were one but all these big footy experts saying we couldn’t pay him $900k over 6 years as that would make us like the Saints and irresponsible etc but it was only 4 years and wasn’t what the rest of us were saying anyway. Would he had stayed at $700k for 4 years plus triggers to try and win a 3rd or 4th premiership? With the AFL concussion dispensation that was worth the risk of us trying to keep such a gun. Anyway he has gone now but it is bloody hard to replace someone like him.

My original post on the 3-club trade i had Dockers gaining 177 points.
I have edited that to a loss of 177 points.
However, do Dockers need points over converting 12 and 33 to 19 and 23.
Forget the later picks swaps of 46 for 44 & 50 that they may not need, and that accounts for 104 points lost

I can see why the dockers BF board hate that they lost 177 points.
But that loss of points is typical BF fans reaction. They have no idea what list managers have planned

Pick 23 was used to get one of the Dockers target players in Judd McVee from the Demons

So, all 4 clubs got what they wanted. Until today i did not know the Demons were involved

Then you add in the 10% discount and the fact Lions will split 16 and 22 on draft night for more points.

Definitely got this year covered. Attention turns to accumulating for 2026 now.

Is that 2032 with the discount?

C’mon, it’s fun. Just ask mpal6 and Elixuh, they’ve absolutely ripped up the Starcevich thread for a good couple of weeks on the D&T board.

To commemorate Starcevich leaving us, enjoy the live reactions to him being drafted many a year ago.

There's also some good reactions to the Bailey pick if you scroll back too.

Edit: Bonus reactions for Oscar Allen being picked up.
