I thought Linc McCarthy got a years extension, hence why he canned the idea of trying to get back on the field this year.

Certain I have seen reported that McKenna was offered a 1 year extension and we are waiting on his decision, IIRC he is back in Ireland at the moment.

The last thing I can find being reported was that he was in discussions with Brisbane agreeing to offer a one year contract after shelving that plan.

I'm sure he will be at the club in 2026, just left it there until there's confirmation.

Can’t believe I didn’t have any hot takes. Disappointed in myself. My boy Briztoon seemed to do all the heavy lifting that night.

My original post on the 3-club trade i had Dockers gaining 177 points.
I have edited that to a loss of 177 points.
However, do Dockers need points over converting 12 and 33 to 19 and 23.
Forget the later picks swaps of 46 for 44 & 50 that they may not need, and that accounts for 104 points lost

I can see why the dockers BF board hate that they lost 177 points.
But that loss of points is typical BF fans reaction. They have no idea what list managers have planned

Pick 23 was used to get one of the Dockers target players in Judd McVee from the Demons

So, all 4 clubs got what they wanted. Until today i did not know the Demons were involved

Re Freo. They do have an nga kid that will attract a bid, possibly in the late second round. They’re also hoping to pick up a WA kid in the draft, who might be a slider. They’re worried he doesn’t get to pick 19.

Any chance the Jordan Ridley option is still live? I've been wondering about picks 16 and 22 and how they could be used - we could get more points by spinning them back or alternatively use them for current assets given our list spaces. I find myself wondering if Bombers might be interested again for the right offer and were just engaging in double speak a few weeks ago when they nixed it

From the interview with Dom Ambrogio on Monday, it didn't seem like it went very far.

He is. Made a surprise return to Gaelic footy for Tyrone's semi final win last weekend according to local media. No details on if he's staying in Ireland or not.

Then you add in the 10% discount and the fact Lions will split 16 and 22 on draft night for more points.

Definitely got this year covered. Attention turns to accumulating for 2026 now.
I have concerns about this.

Currently there really are only two clubs that might target our pick 16 (will be 17) North & Melbourne. There just aren’t many clubs loaded up with picks that might want to move up, at this stage.

Secondly, Carlton will be shopping their pick 9 (10) for points, and Gold Coasts will be shopping their pick 14 (15) for points.

If we aren't the trade / draft winners already, it's going to be fun looking back in 2 or 3 years to 2025 when the Lions, B2B premiers, added 3 players - OA, Drapes and Annable (for not a lot of capital) - who are all going to be guns and play their best footy at the Lions.

I think a lot of those worried about OA and Drapes' injury history, aren't giving adequate weight to the difference a fresh start at a successful club, with a great culture, a united tight knit playing group, excellent coaches and people managers will make to them.

Psychological and emotional states shouldn't be underestimated in relation to health, fitness and performance.

Fair enough.
On the other hand, they wanted McVee and got him for pick 23.
If they thought that was over valuing McVee they would not have done the trade.

The Dockers recruiting team now just reset with what they have and try getting what is on their wish list.

I’m really curious if many clubs try and position themselves to move up for the half a dozen or so available mid to late first round picks in this draft.

If this happens, we might see the fewest kids drafted in draft history this year. Might also see the deepest rookie draft in draft history.

Yeah I am gutted. I am not saying you were one but all these big footy experts saying we couldn’t pay him $900k over 6 years as that would make us like the Saints and irresponsible etc but it was only 4 years and wasn’t what the rest of us were saying anyway. Would he had stayed at $700k for 4 years plus triggers to try and win a 3rd or 4th premiership? With the AFL concussion dispensation that was worth the risk of us trying to keep such a gun. Anyway he has gone now but it is bloody hard to replace someone like him.

As I said before, I don't reckon it was purely $$$ that got him over the line.

I think the lure of "home" was primary to him leaving, and he got some additional $$$ to boot.

There would have been some $$$ figure that may have made his head turn (back towards us), but whatever figure that was, would have been irresponsible.

It's just a reminder that "going home" is something we (along with the other northern clubs) are more exposed to, despite all the vic-centric noise re: academies, etc.

Once again, we'll see a majority of players moving this season doing so to "go home", and a number going the opposite way being "damaged goods" (which we've had our own far share of, even if we managed to "fix" them).

What you’re not considering is that Starce wanted to get home to WA.
He’s a 2-time premiership player which is a massive career achievement, and an amazing fullstop on the first phase of his career. He can leave Brisbane with no unfinished business.
So while he’s moving for a bigger pay packet, he’s probably leveraged his attachment to Brisbane to get an amazing deal out of West Coast to get his wish to get home.

Edit: I’m gutted to lose Starce - he is the best in his position in the comp.

Gaining points is only a concern for clubs that need to deal in points - clubs with academy or f/s selections. For everyone else they’re meaningless other than a way for supporters to assess the value of a trade.
If the club can achieve their aims in a trade, the +\- points value of the trade is completely irrelevant, as is the difference between a mid rd-2 pick vs late rd-2 pick.

This is my favourite response to what turned out to be one of the best draft hauls ever:

Fair bit of water to go under the bridge in terms of player and pick movement in the trade period.

Wouldn’t be basing things off the current suite of picks that clubs have.

Both of those clubs have a fair bit on their plates with potential player movements
