All posturing. They bought Foxtel knowing it's NRL + AFL with a side of cricket. They just want to try to get out of money owed.

I call bs. Is it over paying if your rivals are prepared to pay the same price?

Live sports is the most valuable thing to broadcasters and ultimately if foxtel isn't prepared to pay a premium for top Australian sports, then another streaming platform will.

You can't make money if you've got no content to sell.

The one thing I could see happening is as much cost being pulled out of the broadcast as possible, so staff cuts, reductions in quality (God help us all of the Kayo app gets worse than it already is) and also hefty price hikes on subscriptions.

To memory, Paramount offered even more money last time in a combined deal with 10 - it would’ve just had more games behind a paywall.

The money will still be there one way or another. It may just be a little clunky and not all under one roof in the way Kayo has provided.

As long as they don’t go down the US PGA tour telecast arrangement which requires you to be subscribed to 3 different apps.

That's the way the world of sports is heading. US sports rights tend to run ahead of ours - they're still going up but that's because the rights are getting pieced out between three or four entities. NBA and NFL you need Amazon, Peacock (NBC), some on FTA, and more to watch all the games depending on time slot or team.

If you live in the US, to watch the same days golf coverage you sometimes need to have CBS, ESPN+, the **** and Live From.

Wow this website censors the word ****. Sad crooked censorship!

I'm on the other side of that fence. They focus on international sports; even rugby league is played across the globe. DANZ is European based, Saudi funded and massively in debt. I think the days of skyrocketing money flowing into the AFL coffers for coverage rights are a thing of the past. The next deal will be for a moderate increase at best. I believe the AFL understand that DANZ are very unlikely to value AFL content in the way FOXTEL did. That might be part of the reason they frown on long term big money contracts, especially when clubs rely on growing salary caps to smooth the way.

DAZN F-ing sucks. The NFL selling out and giving their in house gamepass to them was awful. Stream quality way worse, terrible UI. The worst!

The next deal will involve us streaming the AFL from this man:

I'm unclear as to how real this concern actually is but this will be used by the AFL to move to things like twilight grand final, more annoying night game times (sunday night is next, etc).

Just pay attention to whatever nonsense Hutchy is peddling on the sounding board because this is a Hutchy/SEN occupied AFL house.

His suggestion that the wildcard games would be auctioned off to neutral venues the other week was a masive lol. Imagine finishing 7th and the Eagles finish 10th, but the WA government bid for the wild card game so off to Optus you go.

That would be great… Amazon Prime is way cheaper than Kayo.
I’m sure they’ll find a way to charge more and ruin it for everyone (pay per view or some additional subscription).

I've gone from paying an extra $10/mth for the premier league on my optus phone plan to having to get Stan AND their sport add on. $37 total - I've cycled through about 3-4 fake emails/cards to get free trials.

It’d almost certainly be PRIME subscription + $2.99 per month to remove ads + $25 for AFL + $5 for Bezos to send Katy Perry to space again.
