Because it was implied that Marshall wanted to leave and be a number 1 ruck. Why are we even contemplating this.

Everyone will finally get the Max Heath debut they've been craving![]()

The money is irrelevant- every club has to spend a minimum of the cap every year. It’s not the money it’s where you spend it. You can’t win in the NFL without a quality quarterback, then you need to protect him and give him targets etc.
In the AFL it all starts with the midfield, yes a ruckman is part of that setup and TDK is a very good one but without mids we’ll have the same problems we currently have. Realistically we have quite a few needs so while we have chased mids yes you take any quality player at a position of need you can get.
Here’s the thing that bothers me with the TDK deal firstly he’s not a big upgrade on Marshall and secondly who spends that much of the cap on a ruckman. Baseball has a stat called WAR wins against replacement, it grades players against others playing the same position. It’s very easy to see if a player moves the needle and how the loss of or recruitment of a player impacts the team. If you rated Marshall and TDK like that does he even move the needle ? $1.7 million a year of very little imo.
There are guys like Ed Richards who are free agents, he’d a be a massive upgrade in our midfield.

Your next point about not being a better option is subjective. What we do know is that it’s highly unlikely Marshall gets better than he is. Where as there is a likelihood TDK could.
Ed Richards is out of contract surely we’ve asked, but this is st Kilda and we have so many crazy stories even as recently as Lethlean. Yes the only thing with TDK is we get to kick the can down the road plus I’m assuming Marshall will be on his way to another team so maybe that pick will be traded for another need. The money is irrelevant- every club has to spend a minimum of the cap every year.
We have just positioned ourselves to just bank that and use it and based on these rules it must be used or we lose the ability to do so.
So you are left with 2 options.
A) bringing any quality free agent - which also means overpaying to get them to come to stkilda.
Or
B) forward paying a young and unproven list like we did a decade ago - waiting for someone to want to join.
B is a significantly worse option.

But what I’ll guess they do like is that fact that our timeline shifts its demographic to be led by Higgins and TDK, moving away from the small window we have left from Marshall, Sinclair and Wilkie.
You throwing names like Ed Richards is completely irrelevant. I could say Harley Reid would be better or Sam Lalor etc. point is that if they don’t want to come - what do you do?
The only cost to attain an A grade player in this scenario is cap space. Not list assets.
You’re acting like I want to trade him. I’ve said I don’t and am just making my position clear if Marshall wants to leave or the club itself wants to trade him.You probably use that same argument with Battle and Tauru. It's a stretch and a complete gamble.
He is also re-signingEd Richards is out of contract surely we’ve asked, but this is st Kilda and we have so many crazy stories even as recently as Lethlean. No we already know that TDK is a very good player so its not a gambleYou probably use that same argument with Battle and Tauru. It's a stretch and a complete gamble.
Right now we are on the road to disenfranchising Marshall and then maybe TDK doesn't come... then where do we sit.
Dodgy is Lethers middle nameThere has been some posts about Lethers saying no to Noah Anderson in his 1st year and it's widely known he advised Ben King to sign with GC when he wanted to come across. Which club was he working for at the time?? Sounds dodgy as when you put the 2 together and came to us from AFL hq
Ross probably found this shit out and that’s why he wanted him goneThere has been some posts about Lethers saying no to Noah Anderson in his 1st year and it's widely known he advised Ben King to sign with GC when he wanted to come across. I remember it well and Lethers was saying he told Ben and his old man thats an amazing deal and crazy not to take it but thats insane. Its only money. Playing with your twin bro for team you grew up with is Lethleen an a grade flogI know were the Saints and we like to be nice, but what club CEO actively dissuades young talent from coming across? It's not like we have a plethora of good players trying to come to us
We should take him to court for negligence. Dead set who says no to those players.I remember it well and Lethers was saying he told Ben and his old man thats an amazing deal and crazy not to take it but thats insane. Its only money. He advised Kings father for Ben to resign after the AFL gave Ben 150k a season extra outside the SC for 'Ambassador Money'.There has been some posts about Lethers saying no to Noah Anderson in his 1st year and it's widely known he advised Ben King to sign with GC when he wanted to come across. Nobody, it's bullshit the way it's framed. We should take him to court for negligence. Dead set who says no to those players.
AFL gave him money outside of the cap. He would have been nuts to leave. One of Joffas many AFL grievances. They screwed us yet again. Nothing to do with Lethers. We just couldn’t compete.I know were the Saints and we like to be nice, but what club CEO actively dissuades young talent from coming across? It's not like we have a plethora of good players trying to come to us
However,, I also remember how we thought Lethers was great in doing that.I remember it well and Lethers was saying he told Ben and his old man thats an amazing deal and crazy not to take it but thats insane. Its only money. Playing with your twin bro for team you grew up with is Lethleen an a grade flog
So is Nas depending on who you listen to.He is also re-signing
Luckily I believe he isSo is Nas depending on who you listen to.
2 x FRP’s (ours and Marshall trade) + Boxshall for……. Reid?If this chain reaction is kicked off by us taking TDK, we could do very well in a trade for Marshall. Maybe we use it as a way to land an A grade mid from someone
Trying to push up his price.Leek Aleer named this week.
