People are forgetting Port have no 1st rounder to trade this year .... they currently have pick 22 which will likely blow out beyond pick 30

So what are Port giving us?

What are Adelaide giving us?

They have pick 16 ... so in reality pick 25 of thereabouts .....and then pick 43 so probably 50 ..... next year they probably finish top 4 .... so that's probably pick 20 +

Both these teams won't be able to / cannot satisfy us

Good chance Wanga has gone home to tell his family he is staying in Melbourne ... with the Saints
It’s not Nas issue if he wants to go home. A deal will be brokered if he requests a trade as he’s OOC, which will likely mean trading in future firsts and seconds.

Nas seems quite settled and very well connected to the club, which are very good signs, but I suspect the prevailing issue will be how strong the pull from family and community will be.

I am putting money on Nas resigning, but I am just as nervous as everyone else.

Yep I did read this on here recently. Probably on one of your posts 🤣
Even better.
Of course I remember Terry Milera.
If we have any brains in our heads, we should be putting acceptable offers in front of Windy and Keels as soon as humanly possible.

We would want absolute bare minimum two top 10 picks .... not sure Naz would do the dirty on us for anything less going back to the club

My money says ...... he stays

As for TDK ... its not just about him coming to us

It's about him leaving Carlscum and the joy that brings
But according to some the money is coming out of their own pockets or so it seems with their increasingly frenzied posts.
Not one complaining can offer even one other name to use the money on. Funny that. 😁

100%
( think we should drop them an email and tell them…)

Hoping Keeler will be one the Crows regret for a long, long time.

One of the reasons I feel very strong that Nas is re-signing with us is there has been no talk of what Port or Crows are offering him. If you recall, there was so much chatter and leaks about secret meetings with Battle and Hawks including Sam Mitchell and the respective ladies. I haven't even heard an actual deal that has been offered to Nas from Port or Crows, or even a secret meeting. I think he committed mentally if not officially to us quite awhile ago.

Been reported that Adelaide’s offer is very long term. Like 8 years.

You’d think they’ll go their hardest while he’s back over there over the next week or so.

Thankfully Port are stinking it up at the moment as he’s supposedly heavily favouring them if he leaves.

Dan curtain , raschelle /Worral 2 of plus a first .

Keeler, in case you’re not aware, is one of his relos who he grew up with. So he not only has great friends here, but also family. Plus his stepfather played here!
Yes, considering the close relationships NWM has at the club, his remarks about his love of the club, and his desire to be an important part of the greatest ever Saints, it’s hard to believe that he would leave St Kilda.

It would be a staggering decision to say all of this stuff and then leave. Despite home sickness.

NWM’s Manager also said on Gettable a few weeks ago that ago that if he was a betting man then he would bet that it is likely NWM stays a Saint.

I know that nothing is certain until NWM re-signs, but logic suggests all this other stuff that is being said is leading (inexorably) to him re-signing as a Saint.

As nervous as I am about it, it’s hard to not logically conclude the above.

This is an opinion, and a pretty obvious conclusion to draw. Caro gets a lot right when it comes to speculation around AFL house and the off field side of the game.
When it comes to player movement she knows three fifths of **** all.
Seems only slightly better than 50 50 he stays IMHO. I reckon he' was always making a decision over the bye round so an announcement within the following few weeks if he is staying.

Considering it is known that the extra SC is used it or lose it, who do you propose we use it on?
What strategy would you use to improve our list like the big four does by attracting established players considering we are continually forced to have a poor draw, FS and NGA inequities and always at a threat of any players we happen to develop, like Battle and now NAZ to be taking by one of the bigger clubs?
I don't think TDK is a world beater, I think 1.7 is way overs. However we are forced to look at these radical options because the easy ones aren't afforded us. You call us desperate, of course we are, we go into recruiting and drafting with one hand tied behind our backs by the corrupt AFL.

Anyway TDK is only the most obvious end of year recruit. There are always recruits that aren't spoken about and it might be part of a larger package.

Also this is why many are loathe to take the money offered. The pressure and criticism of the player will be hysterical if he isn't BoG every game. That's a reason Callaghan resigned with the Giants.

You have to pay minimum cap. Give Nas a heavy front loading, spread $$$ out over all our good young players, give Jimmy Webster a $1 million in his last year for good service. Get creative. You're an accountant.

TDK looks fine now but if he plateaus we are lumped with a financial anchor for a very long time.

I'd rather offer Ed Richards or Bont overs myself.

How can a quote be used from NAS from Sunday and Caro argue it and say the opposite ??

Surely she wouldn’t have inside info ?

Someone on Big Footy?

That's your source?

It says

This reads as if St Kilda has picked 2 players already.

Are you suggesting they've nominated De Koning, with a backup selected if they don't get him?

I very much doubt that.

Secondly, the entire fund is $35million with 80 players getting a cut (some more than others). Hard to imagine it could make up a significant portion of De Konings salary.

Third, why would the media be referring to a contract that includes amounts that's specifically outside their cap? The commentary has been St Kilda offered 12.5 over 7. Not that St Kilda offered say 10 with the AFL fund making up the rest

Could be wrong but it doesn't seem likely.
The $35M is split between 54 players with the possible addition of other players if requested by the AFL.

Given that the 54 would have already signed a contract, then it makes sense that if the AFL then decided that player "X" was going to join the marketing scheme, they would provide extra funding.

Doubt the split would 50:50 between the AFL and the AFLW so if its say $25M for the AFL and $10M for the AFLW then its $5M a year split between 36 AFL players.

So players would be getting around $140K a year each assuming they don't just give 99% to Nick Daicos.

It depends where the leaks are coming from.
Battle's partner was probably posting it on social media.

I reckon he’s leaving.

And if the club loses battle (2nd in BnF then leaves)
& NAS (will win our BnF this year & make the All Australian team) can’t see too many saints fans re-signing memberships next year.

You reckon do you?

Well I'm sold then.....he must be gone......

Yeah as soon as I read the words “he loves the club” you just know it means he’s gone.

So frustrating to finally have a draftee of our own become a real star just to loose him.

You're an accountant.
😲 Joffaboy is an accountant!??

Then how does he (and so many others) not understand this....

The only way the contract makes sense is he makes a big improvement next year - then stays at that very high level for 6 or 7 years. Becomes the next Gawn.

Is that possible? Yes.

Is it probable? Definitely not.

do you understand it? do you have access to all contracts etc?

fact remains, you think its going to put salary cap pressure on...not one person in the media has said it would, it just looks like your hanging your hat on it. You're not even taking into account that the salary cap will be increasing every couple of years. in 5 years (after weve front loaded this contract with the money we have saved on the cap floor) this will just be a run of the mill contract....i still remember everyone having a tissy because of brad hills 800k...now a mediocre player gets 800k and that was only a few years ago....

The AFL player salary cap is set to rise significantly in the coming years, with the limit increasing from $15.79 million in 2024 to $17.7 million in 2025 and potentially even higher by 2027. This increase is expected to lead to more players earning over $1 million annually and a rise in the average player salary.

Here's a more detailed look at the projected salary cap and its impact:
  • Rising Salary Cap:
The AFL's Total Player Payment (TPP) limit, effectively the salary cap, is set to increase to $18.44 million by 2027. This is a significant jump from the $15.02 million in 2023.

  • Increased Million-Dollar Players:
The increase in the salary cap is expected to lead to more players earning over $1 million per year, with industry experts predicting that most clubs will have at least three players on seven-figure deals by 2027.

  • Impact on Average Salary:
The average salary for an AFL player is also expected to rise, with the average salary for a listed player reaching $460,000 in 2025, up from $441,464 in 2024.

  • Minimum Expenditure Requirement:
Clubs are required to spend at least 95% of their salary cap on player wages. This ensures that clubs are not purposefully underpaying players or avoiding recruitment.

  • Flexibility within the Salary Cap:
While clubs must adhere to the minimum expenditure requirement, the AFL also allows for some flexibility with a "Luxury Tax Framework". This framework allows clubs to overspend their salary cap by a certain amount without penalty, potentially up to $1 million
