Genuinely I'm at the point where I am fully confident he is staying. Just trying to inflate his contract a little bit more. My guess is he will sign to free agency

Gold Coast will probably put in a clause of whoever they trade it to that it's not allowed to be on traded to St Kilda. They hate us. Don't expect any of the nepo pick deals to happen with us.

Even if this bloke is wrong on figures, it is sound financial management under the limitations of a government body spend criteria.
SC saving is one of the competition equality tools and the only one not compromised like the draft and the draw.
The only one really available to us and we are exploiting it to the best of our ability.

That’s exactly how it works. If we don’t spend the money, we’ve done all this shuffling for nothing, and if we don’t land a player worthy of paying money to, we will have to pay our current players an inflated amount lol

The club has literally gone after a number of midfielders and been turn down.

We now have a FA from a big club who's about to come into his prime to join a small club like ours and some are complaining about 400k?

Damned if they do damned if they don't.

.....that isn't a midfielder or even a need and most clubs that end up with 2 rucks ends as a fail. Also means we spend the war chest for a mid on something we don't need and limit our cap room for 8 years.

To me it's not some thing to be flippant about. It has to be done dispassionately and for the right reason. If it isn't getting used a lot closer to a flag it's for optics over reason. I'm just not convinced we are doing it for the right reasons. Getting desperate because you've been rejected before is definitely not the right reason.

Aleer, or someone like him is probably someone we need.
He shouldn't cost us a lot of draft stock and we don't have much key defender depth.
We drafted Barrat last draft , but he may not be ready for some time.
Seems we lost patience with our Defenders after persevering too long with Goddard.
We drafted Clavarino in 2017 and delisted him after 2021. He's now playing strongly at state level.

No problem chasing a defender just the cost that I'd be concerned about. $900k and what ever the draft capital are the only issue. Don't think he's a a particularly exciting player but he is probably a need. I'd still prefer to steal Gruzewski off them.
