Carroll is a break glass in emergency mid that had cost us nothing but a list spot.

Dow is a vastly better than Jam Tins Dunstan. He can actually execute a basic handball without turning it over. He’s just can’t get on the park.

Hill a club leader who deserved an extra 3 years on much reduced $.

Max signed the extension when he was fully fit & considered one of most important players to build around.

Collard is a super talented kid. 3 years gives him time & us the opportunity to get something in return if he packs it in.
Believe it or not, SSP is the best thing for St kilda’s list. Sharman, Caminiti and Max Hall are examples of why exposed form can be a better choice. Plus, SSP is the break glass. If St Kilda had a free list spot, it could have had another backup forward to cover for King. You know a KPF from VFL would be handy than a dime a dozen winger. Right now, Carroll is a list clogger stuck at VFL.

Spare me the club leader chat for Hill and a lure to keep NWM. We can see from all the match day threads on what people think of his football abilities. Three years deserved? The guy is 250 games plus and now getting starting sub vests. The NWM lure is spin. Hill could have been hired as a off field welfare officer.

Enough people commented that Max signed after multiple injury affected seasons including last year. Lots of questions about giving him such a long term deal. How many games has he played since that deal?

Collard is also practically a rookie. Based on exposed form the WA clubs will offer a 4th rounder for him if that. Super speculative contract.

We all need to stop looking at the club’s actions with rose coloured glasses.

This chat around Wilson, Garcia and Hastie being potential AA picks is delusional. I pray I'm wrong but what have we seen yet that shows they will get anywhere near that level? There are about five blokes from Wilsons draft class that would already be way ahead of him if you were picking an AA midfield from that draft alone!

Go back to 2016 and see if we weren't saying the exact same things about Billings, Dunstan, Gresham and McCartin. I'll believe we are turning a corner when I see it, but right now we are absolutely nowhere.
The only under 23 AA potential is NWM.

And he is looking like a 0 chance to stay at this stage.

King is 26 next year, he's in the second half of his career.

Imagine when he reaches 50 games, he will be unstoppable….. oh! He’s on 83 all ready, that went quick didn’t it. 🥴 🤣

"Saints aren't the right club or fit for him and don't deserve him"

if nas extends I'm not gonna be able to help myself from dropping a few little nice comments over there
Why wait? Especially if Warren Tredrea is over there

Geez saying we don’t deserve him is the worst take I’ve heard I’m a while. We literally turned him into the player he is today. What and absolute spanner

The fact the both Port and Adelaide have offered to front load Nas contract to (a reported) $2m per year should tell you what you need to know. You don’t make a play like that unless you absolutely think you need to, and they need to because they know he’s staying for the next two years.

Their effort is to encourage Nas to leave now, rather than have the same conversations in 2 years time.

There's a big difference between players who are AA locks over a period of 4 or more years like Bont, Cripps or at least big questions over their omittance, and players who snag an AA spot for a year or two, like Steele, Wilkie and Sinclair, no disrespect intended.

Steele is probably the odd one out there. He really only had the one great season. Wilkie and Sinclair are both in the top 5 by position in the league and over multiple seasons. Leaving them out would be a conversation for selectors. No-one is even mentioning Steele anymore.

Nas wants to be a part of St Kildas next great team. His words.
The signatures of Aleer and TDK are important as they help make the vision feel real.

I note that we are trying others off HBF last week. Are we not a little bit concerned now? I appreciate that Tony says otherwise but the longer it goes the less likely he stays.

Interesting point, but do you think it might be less giving others experience in his role, and more showing Nas that we see him as more than a half back flanker?

The optimist would say this is a point where he can reset to square one and potentially have a new lease on life

The club gets his body right - hopefully this "mechanical" problem is the true reason. Does the pre-season and plays most of the next 5+ years right when the side is starting to peak in terms of premiership contention

Like how Curnow and Daniher have/did

Others have definitely done it. Some players seem to get less injury prone with age but if he is getting to the concerning stage at the moment. He's looking a bit Paddy McCartin at the moment. In 2026 he will have been given 2 extra seasons than Paddy. He really wants to play a minimum of 15 games in 2026 or you'd think they'd be looking to move past him.

The jury is still out on Keeler, but the one thing you're 100% right on is him having to take the best defender every time he plays. We've actually done alot right this year and it would be a different season if King wasn't injured. We are competitive against everyone in the last 6 weeks, but it breaks down going forward because we have to be perfect to score a goal.

I've said it a few times, but King is the key to unlocking our best team. Owens and Sharman will be far deadlier when they aren't taking the 2nd and 3rd best defenders.

You could definitely see the improvement with Heath in the side. It just structured everything up properly. Unfortunately Snags and Butler didn't get to feed off it but usually it would make a difference to the guys who feed off scraps.

If King isn't going to get back we really should chase a state league tall forward. Someone liker Chris Burgess could be a James Podsiadly type that comes in as a finisher.

That Taurus bloke is a talentless GOP at best. Whats his nickname, the flying carpet or whatever?!
Don’t even get me started on Barry Hall’s son. Delist

Hall isn't under 23. Tauru is still a long way off AA at this point. He's super promising but so was Dunstan at 18.

Rewriting history there, Steele was elite for 3 years 2020-2022 and still very good outside that. His fall off this year has really coloured people's perceptions.

He's been ordinary for a few. He's had one season where he was a top 10 mid and the rest have been solid until the last couple where he looks like he's struggled to stay fit and involved.

Or more likely Battles ability to be swayed by personal relationships outside the club which is expected ….and how it played out ..
Battle leaving likely had very very little to do with Ross.

Battle not telling Ross when asked point blank... hard to argue that doesnt.
You can't just lay this all on a list manager and simplify it down to a pass or a fail.

"Inability to attract an elite midfielder is a huge fail for SOS and the club = fail."
Is this on SOS? Noone gets elite inside midfielders in their prime without paying a massive price. If you consider Bailey Smith an "inside mid" then he is probabaly the only one that was a steal, and Geelong have the biggest trading advantage in the comp. Elite ballwinners very rarely move clubs, and if they do, they go to winning situations (Dunkley to Brisbane, Smith to Cats) so I feel it's unfair to pin this on him. Almost all inside mid's trades are young project/potential players like Caldwell.

"The loss of Battle who regardless of the circumstances, he was the best CHB we have had at the club for sometime = significant loss".
How much can you blame a list manager on this? If a player wants to leave, there's not much a list manager can do to stop them. If Trav and Taura end up being guns, this will be seen as a win, it's far too early to judge this move.

"Not recruiting a ready to play CHB after losing Battle = fail" Again, CHB's don't just grow on trees. You can't just go "oh well, we lost Battle, let's now recruit a gun backman!" It doesn't work like that.

What he should be scrutinised on is being obsessed with bringing in players from the last place he worked. He did it at Carlton with the Giants and he's doing it with us. My main concern with SOS is his knowledge based is severely limited and he focuses on what he knows rather than daring to get creative.
Ultimately he'll be judged on long term success, its a long term build exercise hes in the middle of right now. Theres probably some small wins you can give him and theres some small critiques you can give him but the jury is out on all of it really. We wont know anything for a while.

The list looks good, the kids look good, we seem to be pretty happy to consider older guys as trade commodities etc. but theres a pretty long way to go IMO.

The fact that I don't even know which year you're talking about says it all for me, but play on lol

Hes a 2 time AA isnt he (20 and 21).

I recall being pretty shocked by his AA in 2020, just statistically I dont think he had a 30 touch game? But he was doing the run with role and beating his opponents hands down.

21 he was elite and a brownlow fancy.

I reckon he fell out of form for the most part post that, in that he was solid without being spectacular at any point.

I also reckon hes looked pretty good the last few weeks.
