Sorry, but assuming the money is at least somewhere close to what is reported (even if it is as low as $1.2m per year) then is this not the worst deal in the history of the sport?

TDK is 26 now and will be 34 when this deal ends. Hasn't made an All-Australian team or even been part of the 40-player squad. I think his best finish in Carlton's BnF was 7th last year. He's also a one-position player on current form - very ordinary as a forward. I guess he could be tried off a wing.

I like TDK - he seems like a great bloke, lots of energy and he has some unique traits. But this feels like a worse version of us signing Zac Williams to 6 years, $6m. It's been nice having Zac Williams on our team, but hasn't moved the needle at all. For this money and this contract, what do you need from him to make it worth it? If not a premiership, is it 3xAA appearances?

If what we're getting in return is pick 9 and more salary cap space than we have had in half a decade, I'm totally ok with him going. I think the best teams have shown that flexibility is key and we finally get that.

If rumours from quality sources are accurate $1.5m to $1.6m per year of that so most of it.

For that sort of contract, I would be FIFO from Bali!

I’m 100% in on trading Charlie if we can get a break even scenario, naturally prefer to “win” the trade, but if he does not want to he here and we can trade for need and can land elite runners / users I’m all in. If you don’t want to be here, there’s the door mate. Butters would be a dream, a nice little combo of Hayward and Lizard, or Papley + a first and second. They are not giving up one of the big 3, but I think there could be other workable options.

I honestly wish TDK all the best. Nothing else he could do. I think he can have an amazing career and may even feature in a St Kilda 8-game winning streak DVD Box Set or so, but he will have a good AFL career. Might get some AA jackets. He is good, he will be excellent, and I like him.

Blues need to get busy and parlay this and a checked out Charlie into three first rounders and make something great happen. No more messiahs, only list wealth, standards, depth and drive.

I might be mistaken but I thought I had read somewhere that if you lose multiple players as FAs in the same period, it is taken in to consideration with the compo...

In the same way that if you lose and acquire a player in the same period, then your compo is diluted or even forgone.

So losing both TDK and JSOS in the same period might mean we receive higher compo for the JSOS loss?

Could have completely made this up, does anyone know?

I reckon you could lever two first rounders in the top 8 or so from someone and the Blues would have to seriously look at it.

I have heard that it is a very shallow draft, but surely there's some good players in the first round?

I heard the top end isn't great but the tier below is fairly deep.
