This is a very intelligent change except and probably won't occur due to it being too logical.Free agency is the biggest sccam ever. A club gets a free agent but every other club has to pay for it. St Kilda get TDK for no charge but every pther club pays for it by being shuffled down the draft order. Geelong and Pies don't care about the draft( and have made it well known) they just poach ready made players while every other club pays the compensation. This is why a lot of clubs will struggle to get out of the bottom 10. If they deem Oscar Allen to be worth a pick 2 then Brisbane should be made to pay WCE the points equivelant to a pick 2 starting with their best pick in the draft until they can satisfy enough points for a pick 2. It's just an example but every club being made to pay for 1 other clubs free agent pick is ridiculous.
Next yearJust remove the compensation

I would not have the pick allocation dependent on the teams finished position, i.e.. pick2 in this case.
The AFL need to allocate the pick designated on the contract offered (for instance 800k for 5 years is worth pick10) and then then team paying needs to accommodate the value on that pick. Again if Allen is worth pick 10 - Brisbane pay the value of pick 10.
Just remove the compensation

agree but there are other ways to help equalisation rather than as you say screwing over the rest of the compWould be nice but the bottom clubs suffer the most then as we know.
and Sean Darcy as our new ruck.
My info could be wrong but I heard it was at least partially based on his partner wanting to move back to Melbourne to support a sick parent. Sadly that parent has now passed away. What ever happened about the rumours of Jackson wanting to move back to Melbourne?
I think curnow will stay if he goes toIt'll never happen, but I'd be happy with something like this.
Sydney get Charlie and a lower pick.
Carlton get Papley + Campbell + Florent + 2025 First Rounder + 2025 Third Rounder.
Just like everyone elses.Worthless
On limited viewing I liked his game v us. Also Blakiston.Lual from *, interest? OOC and they need to drop off a few from their list.
We were supposedly looking at him in his draft year. Archie Roberts too when we settled for Billy over Cooper Simpson.
Edit: Think it was Lloyd that guided * to jump up the board to take Archie Roberts.
We need some insider knowledge to sneak in some late gems with all of our picks..

Just remove free agency completely and let the market dictate compensation through a trade when a player is out of contract.Just remove the compensation
And reign back in the salary cap.Just remove free agency completely and let the market dictate compensation through a trade when a player is out of contract.
No need to have two systems in place, although the Players Association would never approve abolishing free agency.
We will get Top 4 next season. Replacing the assistant coaches is a good move. We should get a decent draft pick for De Koning. We need to trade for some speed and kicking efficiency in the midfield and Sean Darcy as our new ruck.

Don't know if we will have room for a low cost high upside type or two.
I really can't see a drastic F/S change happening next year...
They might remove the discount, come up with a way that makes it more expensive... but removing F/S from first round...
That would be a ridiculous thing to do... can just imagine players being picked at the "end of the first round" to prevent clubs from getting them under F/S...
I'm with ya!!!Looks like we have Buku coming on board but dont really get it. Tweener height and weight for roles. If competing vs Boyd or JSoS type roles he loses out to both and Boyd cant get in the team. If he is a JSoS replacement then that hurts as he isnt close.
What is it with Carlton list managers rehashing their less than successful picks.

He's not a defender he's a third tall forward according to the Dogs board,he's a leading forward, good mark and a decent kick for goal.Looks like we have Buku coming on board but dont really get it.
