Not sure a rising 33 gear old Adam Treloar answers any problems for us.

Treloar is a good culture guy. Would be a good step into coaching for him to come across.

We're going to have some cap space that needs filling in the short term. Wouldn't mind working a minor trade with the Dogs if they were up for it. Something that doesn't impact our FA compensation but also helps them out.

Win-win.

Treloar has never really struck me as a future coach. Good for culture, popular with his teammates, sure...but not one who is going to innovate a gameplan, demonstrate some innate ability to communicate a gameplan, or bring some elite skill-enhancing ideas to training.

I admire Treloar's work ... only Carlton are going nowhere next year. Why take a 33 yr old when we need to develop the young Guys? Different if we were in a Premiership window. Carlton should be planning ahead and looking around for Players who will still be around in 6 years imo.

Geelong take mature aged talented Guys like Treloar.
They are in the perfect position to do so ... and seem to tick the right boxes.

who is the better option, lower risk Treloar or Dylan Shiel?

I'd take a risk on Treloar for a late token pick and his salary. We are not drafting a better option for a late pick. Why not have another explosive midfield option. Add Flanders and Jagga as well to the mix, all of a sudden we have different options and mixes to run through there.
Wonder if Dogs are one of the clubs who have shown interest in Elijah? Straight swap?

What about our man Liam Jones.....just a lazy 17 possessions and 10 marks in defence ;)

So he's scalped a bunch of parents $150 for 30mins of kicking a footy with their kid, and coached most of a season of U17s - really not seeing why Carlton, a club in desperate need of some quality coaches, would give him a gig straight out of the game based on that resume.

I'll concede, he may have an eye on coaching. And he may be a better prospect than I'm giving him credit for.

If we're bringing him over for a year with a handshake deal on a coaching role to follow, I'd be more comfortable if that was in some way linked to our Academy, Development or VFL coaching groups, rather than the seniors. If he's up for that, we could do a lot worse. I reckon he'd be an excellent mentor for guys like Wilson, Motlop, Hollands, Cowan, Lord, Jagga, Moir etc. in terms of their stoppage craft, and even one season of that tutelage this early in their careers could be incredibly valuable.

What he offers beyond that I have my doubts about, but if we're offering a pathway rather than a shortcut then I'm less concerned.
