I’m wondering - given we seem to be trending towards a rebuild-on-the-go type situation (and also given the potential departure of Charlie), is there any world where we go to the draft for a key forward this year? CDT (if the Charlie trade nets us a top pick) or even Aidan Schubert (who seems to be an absolute gun) could both work well for us.

By Round 1 2027, you can easily see all these players in our starting 23

I agree with you Jim, I'd also take Shiel for free. Cheap salary, very solid depth, great trainer and experience. We could be losing a bit if experience in Charlie, TDK, JSOS and McGovern.

Will be tough off-season. I get we can interest Reeves, Putridcelle and Buku. They have failed in their current club so are looking for an out. Austin can get these types to Carlton.

Sam Flanders will be a good test. Would he and his manager blacklist us as an option due to the turmoil and poor performances this club has put up in 2025. Sam flander's manager will be going to Sam, look at what they did to Cerra. Highly prized at Freo now even Carlton fans want him gone.

We are trying to get decent ball users into the club, let alone deal with the player we currently have with poor disposal, and the players with good disposal that are departing.

Why in the absolute sweet living bejesus would we want to recruit a 32yo, that already shafted us despite rolling out the red carpet for him, who will not improve us 1 iota?

We've been fighting to be a destination club for 20+ years and have hardly got there. Right now, the truth is, we are the opposite of a destination club. Hasnt happened many times in Carlton's history. So a first for a while from the club.

So Austin/Voss need to do something about it because right now, we are the St Kilda/Doggies of the 80s.

What was the joke a few years ago about Shiel - Carlton finally got the midfielder we wanted who could deliver lace out to our players. Unfortunately he’s playing for Essendon !

Who I think could look good in a Navy Blue jersey next year:

Sam Flanders (should be our number 1 target)
Buku khamis (younger replacement for JSOS with a better kick for goal)
Lachy Dovaston (our JSOS compo)
Aidan Schubert (Charlie replacement)
Harry Dean (temporary HOF replacement before pairing up together for the next 15 years)
Jack Ison (Eli Hollands replacement)
Flynn Riley (developing ruck)
Darcy Hogg (replacing Fogarty inside 50)

We need a decent wing to cover for acres, in fact, an upgrade would be nice. Binns or Cottrell or hollands or Camporeale could be it already but I’d love a ready made one.

Carlton would be better to target young Players who find it difficult to get a game because their team is full of Top Quality Players in their preferred positions. Being young they can bloom when given an opportunity.

If Austin wants older top up Players go find out who the geriatric specialists have their eyes on.
No team does better than Geelong for value for money on that front.

Forget about Injury prone rejects from bottom 8 Clubs who only have a season or 2 left in them .. they'd be looking for a pension cheque and probably spend time just padding out our Injury list in 2026.
