We reached peak performance in 2023 and peak flakiness in 2024/2025 - time to move on.
Reckon we reached peak performance in the week or 2 before we reached peak flakiness in 2024.
Nobody is trading for a slow small forward who struggles with set shots. Our best hope is persisting with him as a mid.Hope it’s on minimum chips for 1yr, or a potential trade.

Some of the boys have been peakin all year.We reached peak performance in 2023 and peak flakiness in 2024/2025 - time to move on.
This has been happening since 2020, within quarters, games, and seasons.2023 prelim.
I think the phrase goes something like ‘we got a bit ahead of ourselves’ at quarter time.
There’s always suitors..Nobody is trading for a slow small forward who struggles with set shots. Our best hope is persisting with him as a mid.

Clubs are likely forced to include in their contracts by the (PA).Why? the clubs provide the contracts. Pretty much every good player in the comp will have this. Historically the Eagles and * (under Dodoro) had blanket rules about not including CBA changes, however that was also a few years back so the rate of change was lower compared to the last agreement.
Everyone pays 95-100% (or 105% after banking) so that doesn't really make a difference.
It actually been happening for 20 years. Don’t you remember Murphy saying the same thing AFTER losing to Gold Coast here when we just lost to the tigers in round 1? To get ahead of yourself after a loss is something else. Couldn’t believe my bloody ears. This has been happening since 2020, within quarters, games, and seasons.
It reinforces so many of my beliefs on the playing group and playing leadership
Docherty knew the end of his career was near. He, and the others on the wrong end of their career, pushing for all chips in, would 100% be motivated by self interest rather than objective assessment of the list.In terms of the players we are targeting, I can see what we are trying to do. Basically, there is no middle tier on the list in terms of either age or talent.
We either didn’t draft or develop properly - take your pick (Dow, SPS, Stocker, O’Brien, Philp)
We had surplus of particular player types (Kennedy, Carroll, Owies)
We had injury prone types who couldn’t get onto the field (Marchbank, Martin, Gov, Cuningham)
The result is no middle tier. In fact, that alone would have been the argument for sticking with two first round draft picks last year rather than trading up for Jagga.
Bringing in Khamis, Reidy, etc is obviously an attempt to remedy the gaping list chasm. It’s a tough shot to pull off. But as Wayne Gretzky said, he never made a shot he didn’t take.
As far as Docherty is concerned, if he thinks trading for Houston rather than drafting Jagga gets us to a premiership then good luck to him. But I would beg to differ.
2023 prelim.

Martin and Williams were our 'big money' spends.... Not sure if the free agency market fell in our favour talent wise, but those 2 were a massive fail id say. (Hindsight I know)As the club should have done!
With a lop sided salary cap, we were not in the position to be adding experienced players looking for a pay day. Maxing out the cap year in year out is ludicrous.
With the events so far this “off season” we will soon be in the position to chase some decent profile trades/free agents. We were not until recent events. I am loving the efforts of our recruiters who have acquired “boyhood Blues” of late. Even our new Head of Football is a boyhood Blue. I have to think this is a strategy to uograde the “culture” and commitment. The players we have acquired have been “budget beauties”.
If they’re giving us Neale - we better be getting multiple first round draft picks tooIf Geelong make a play for Charlie, I hope we dont take M Holmes. I would rather S Neale.
Which two first rounders?Any chance we let Charlie go to Swans, they send 2 first rounders to Port and we get Butters?
Up to the Swans to find 'em. That is the price for Charlie.Which two first rounders?
Makes a big difference to the answer on Butters. WCE #2 and F1 might get it done.Up to the Swans to find 'em. That is the price for Charlie.
Don't need Neale - desperate for Holmes and Dempsey. If Geelong make a play for Charlie, I hope we dont take M Holmes. I would rather S Neale.
Any chance we let Charlie go to Swans, they send 2 first rounders to Port and we get Butters?
I saw one media entity (I can’t remember which one) say the other day that Neale is worth more than CharlieIf they’re giving us Neale - we better be getting multiple first round draft picks too
If Port are confident they will lose Butters for free agent compo next year I think those odds would come waaaay in.If you were Port, would you trade Butters for two first rounders in a shallow draft?
million to one.
