Getting a little ahead with looking at the end of 2026 season, possibly delistings trades and retirement options…

Also the drafting of Walker, other list needs by drafting, trade and FA…

Still need to add speed/skilled midfielders, KKF’s minimum 2, another KPD, speed/skilled forwards & defenders to replace the outgoing and fill positions which are bare in depth…

We still have some gaps to fill and upgrading of the players who will be exiting…

Correct. Typically if a bid results in a deficit that deficit begins in the same round as the bid, but trading away the pick means they are forced to trade one in next off-season.

He hasn't signed on and will likely look seriously at FA. He is also not what I would call a popular player. Not that he isn't liked but he doesn't socialise/mix with the group and isn't someone who would bring group together. He is very individually focussed and keeps a lot to himself. Not a great communicator

Also really needs to get over injuries and just play regular football

I think we are really deviod of a genuine leader and Cripps needs to stay Captain at this stage. Weitering is probably the only other option. Other "Leaders" around the club would be Newman Haynes and probably Pittonet

I’ve been around the club and seen Walshy out in the real world and he’s with the boys a lot. Not to mention how close he is with Crippa and Weiters.

And also, what evidence is there to suggest that Cripps/Weitering are the types to socialise with the wider playing group?

The biggest question here is this: is being "mates" with the whole playing group a prerequisite for being a good captain?

Not saying he can’t I just don’t think it’s very professional. I’ve said that before and I know it’s not a popular opinion here but the top end pro athletes of any sport just simply don’t do it as much as he seems to. Just my view

Fair enough that’s your opinion. It’s the off season I personally think we can cut him some slack and just because he’s pictured with a drink it doesn't necessarily mean he’s out getting shitfaced every time.

I personally think Walshy sets high standards training wise and is quite professional with the way he goes about it. I really like that he’s going to Doha for some high level training.

Also each preseason we hear the reports of the level he trains at and at times the coaches have to hold him back from himself.

sure you can. If the club feels they've got the position covered and/or would prefer to add another player and there's no financial issues with the cap, then there's nothing stopping them delisting a player. We've done it before.

No, actually just delisting players because we feel like it has deep implications.
It sends a message to players, managers and targets that we dont honour agreements; that we make terrible list management decisions and tells other players who are seeking contract upgrades that we prefer to spend money paying out duds than on players who deserve more.
Yes there’s extreme circumstance where it can be justified … but annyone advocating to fix previous list management issues in this fashion has no idea.

The club has had a long history of appointing an elite player as Captain.

Kernahan, Bradley, Ratten, Koutoufides, Whitnall, Judd, Murphy.

Plenty of natural leaders looked over, like Simpson.

We need to pick a more workman like leader, someone who can communicate, drive standards and backup the coaches message. Not sure who that is with us.

Way too many variables. Who is available and what might happen with draft picks. Lot to play out yet

My opinion is McGovern Elijah White will go. Flynn borderline

We have one spot available at moment.

We will likely have 3 draft picks and a DFA/Train on

Question will be do we want another spot as someone becomes available that helps our list like a KPP. Then Flynn or a Binns may be in trouble

With money budgeted for Jack, TDK and Charlie we have money to pay a player or two out of needed without affecting much

He doesn’t need to be out for the season though, as long as there is someone to place on the inactive list, then you’re ok.
