I remember the comment, I assumed it was Wright angling for a ready-made solution so he could make a play for a number of uncontracted rucks leading into the end of the year.

None of them took the bait. O'Keeffe is someone that clearly thrives from Kreuzer's tutelage, same as TDK did before him once Kreuzer was given more licence.

I don't mind him losing a few grapples considering how much we gain once the ball hits the deck.
We need more KPF depth to enable HOK to spend more time in the ruck- whether in the seniors or twos

Reeves knocked us back early as Hawks offered him new deal. He was our first choice

It makes sense. Of all the backup rucks around the league I think hes the best, along with Pitto. Reidy is a clear rung below, as he is unproven at AFL level.

Surprised Reeves wouldnt take the opportunity. He'll be sitting in the reserves all year unless Meek gets injured. I guess some guys are just happy being paid.

Reidy is a wait and see proposition. He's a big unit, apparently plays best on the edge, and has dominated at WAFL level. How that translates to AFL level, who knows?

Apparently we were interested in Ned Reeves leading up to the trade period. He's now signed on for another year at Hawthorn taking him to free agency. Wouldn't be surprised at all if we made a serious play for him as a free agent the end of the 2026.

If Pittonet can stay fit and play week in week out he is a good solid ruckman with great tap work. Popular teammate and very much a confidence player

As for Reidy I don’t know a lot but told big body hardworking type

What we need is for these guys just to compete. We need a Witts/Xerri type that are hard tough and create space around contest, shepherd and tackle. They make their midfield better

Neither will be a Max Gawn and we shouldn’t expect that. I just want competitors. That’s my expectation

He won’t be spending big time in ruck. Will be training with forwards

Showed massive improvement as a forward last year and coaches were impressed with positioning and especially contested marking. We were actually more effective when he was forward

I think Pitto is underrated on here. Doesnt do much around the ground but provides a physical presence and tap work is elite. Durability the main question mark.

If he can stay fit I have no issue with him as our no.1. People saying HOK is ahead as ruck, have rocks in their head. At this stage in Pitto would annihilate him. HOK might provide more around the ground, but having someone who competes strongly in the ruck is more important.

100%.

I think if Pittonet/Reidy can stand up and offer an edge then HOK 5 minutes a quarter can really be a weapon and point of difference. Every so often McKay can go on as well to stay involved

Allows us then to mix forward line up and go smaller or push Cripps forward. With Hayward Moir Kemp Ainsworth Williams etc we now have options if coaches are smart

Won't happen as we have limited list spots but would love Binns spot to be taken by Alex Holt from Sturt, think he has AFL potential....passes the can he kick test too

Reeves is huge 207cm. I have a feeling we decided between him and Reidy and chose Reidy on football ability. Reeves was the VFL team of the year ruck though so he must be decent. I've seen him play AFL and was unimpressed. Doesn't get a lot of the ball nor hold his marks.
Probably more about who chose us.

Reeves would have been preferred and also a higher trade cost (don’t think we were the only ones in that race) but he decided to stick with HFC.

Edit: would have liked to have more of a look at Max Heath.

I thought it odd we locked on Reidy early with other options seemingly out there.

Agree HOK is more forward than ruck. His long neck adds a few cms. Effectively KPF height.
That's not a neck;

HoK taking the 2nd KP role forward would be a huge positive / advantage in our 23.
He would not only support McKay with his height and bulk but also allow the smalls like Ainsworth, Hayward, Williams and Motlop the luxury to play small. He to me is the key to our forward line structure and setup next year.
It’s an unknown however, so let’s see.

Having another ‘big’ developing in the VFL and Kemp / Moir and McGovern (only forward) as 3rd talls, isn’t a bad looking forward line!!

Just wondering where he is best suited to playing and where he wants to play

TDK playing up forward all those years didn’t quite work out for us

Does Chesser get into the best 22 now given Florent came in?

What is your best 22 anyway in your eyes? One team in the AFL I couldnt even guess given the huge changes
It depends on a lot of stuff.

Is Acres the 2023 version of the 2025 version?

Is O.Hollands going back to the wing or staying with the defenders?

Is Florent assigned wing or Half-back. You assume that he and Hollands will be in one of the other spot

We were in to him from a long way out, so I'd expect some early opportunity...dropping the sub helps also.

Agree, I can't see Pitto & Reidy in the same side from what I've heard about Reidy. Primarily a tap ruckman. We can't have two ruckmen in the same side who don't offer more than pure ruckwork.
Reidy can take a mark around the ground - and up forward - unlike Pitto.

And he's a very good left foot kick.

I hope the Club gives him every chance to be the #1 ruck....
