I know Wade Derksen has been heavily linked with the Dees, but at 6’4ā€ and with some strong VFL numbers over the past few years (believe he had a toe injury this year), plus he can swing forward, he might be worth a look for us.

We aren't as far off as this year has suggested.

Get some much needed good ball use back into the team-
Newman
Jagga
E. Hollands
Kemp

Get some guts who have had injury interuped years up and firing-
Walsh
Harry
Cottrell

Then we've had a bunch of our stars have a down year - Charlie, Cripps and Weitering. That won't happen two years in a row.

If a couple of our young guys can take the next step-
Ollie
Cowan
Motlop
Lord
HOK
Carroll
Moir

We can surge back up pretty fast. Esspecially if Voss gets a bit flexible with his game plan and takes on board some input from some new assistants

I'd love to add another couple of experienced guys onto the list like Haynes. He's been incredible this year.
We'd be taking the slow road with Kemp. I reckon (just a guy feel) that it'll more like the 18 month timeframe before Kemp gets any of his explosiveness back. I'm fine with that. Is rather be rehab properly than take shortcuts and break down.again.

Not accurate. Wietering said that Young had other offers but wanted to stay and fight for a spot.
Can't seem to warm to Young...

Good size but gets brushed aside too easily, loses 1 on 1 contests, ball watches, turnovers.
A 6/10 Player and that's just not good enough. Too unreliable. We can, and should aim higher for a crucial defender to assist Weiters. Mediocrity doesn't cut it if we want to go places. Backup at best.

Some will disagree (has some fans in here)
Sorry ... love is in short supply ... and can't spare any for Young I'm afraid.

You will have plenty agreeing with you but given the JSos situation & HOF injury I can see him being required for at least 1 more year.

Other than being AA... He's never been AA!

Has Durdin ever even strung together 5 good games in a row? Have any of our small forwards?
Durdin was our best small forward in 2022 by a country mile after having a year of learning with Eddie Betts the previous year. He was very very good that year....please don't make me post his 2022 highlights package again.

Since then Durdin's form has tapered away, and none of our small forwards seem to improve.

So anyway, who is our forwards coach teaching them how to play the small forward role? And please don't tell me it's Jordan ****ing Russell....

Yep, prior to this season, had a FIT Durdin as a banker.

Durd’s just seems to run around aimlessly now, charging at the pack or the ball carrier but no real impact. A mini battering ram.

Flies for too many air balls when he should be front & centre / out the back for ground balls.

Injuries haven’t been kind and his ball use seems to have tapered off.

Here’s hoping for a clean run at the pre-season and he can return to some earlier form of solid AFL football with top skills. Much like his performances vs WCE’s.

Totally agree. He looks a little lost as to what his role is....small forward, leading forward, 3rd 'tall', high half forward?

He was a dangerous small forward when he was at his best, just not sure what he's meant to be now. Motlop may also be in the same boat, similar to all of our small forwards.

We desperately need to get a system back that just doesn't rely on our talls to be the main focus. Just go back and look at the highlights reel from 2022, and you clearly see a much less congested forward half that brings the smalls in to the game.

Frankie has well and truly earned a contract. Would like to see Charla retained as I reckon he’s got it, based on my viewing of the VFL.

Will be interesting to see what happens with the contracted 4 of Binns, Boyd, Durdin and Fog. Wouldn’t be surprised to see one or two paid out if it allows us to hold onto some uncontracted players or bring in some new players via DFA, trade or the drafts.

Nathan O'Driscoll dropped for today for Hayden Young by the Dockers.

Very damaging wing at his best. Had some injury troubles though

Really depends on who else departs and who else is available on the cheap..

Could see quite a bit of experience leave the club and you can’t rely on rookies to get through a season. Not the greatest draft to be going big on selections either, which will be at the backend.

Boyd seems out of favour, perhaps on him - didn’t seem to get going from the pre-season ā€œinjury/absenceā€.
Binns has too many flaws (kicking poor).
Fogarty is limited, slow and sloppy in front of goal.
Durdin just lacking at a bit game sense.

We’re complaining about a lack of depth which these guys can provide (IMO in the order of Durdin, Boyd, Fogarty, Binns for best XIII selection) but they need serious work on their areas of concern. Also gives us list space come 2026 when further changes are required.

All a bit one-paced too bar Durd’s, who needs to use it better in-play.
