Definitely not wrong, he has only played 36 games in 4 seasons. I personally think he is going to stick around out west either way, but both yourselves and our own board are rightfully weary re: body. The prevailing sentiment is that he's turned the corner but thats being very VERY hopeful imo. Think he showed fantastic stuff in the last month though, and being a former frp I think depending on the contract offers from both clubs we wont let him leave for a 4th. Not necessarily value for Carlton I wouldn't believe if they gave up more than that, but there's no real incentive either for us to trade him for cheap considering we already put the work in you know?

Not sure tbh. One of the weirder situations of the off season given like you said he was in delist territory 8 weeks ago

Yeah agree with most of that. He's out of contract though so if he requests the trade I'm not sure it matters about your incentive not to lose him for peanuts. It's just one of those situations where if the player chooses to leave you don't get fair value. We have had our fair share of losing high upside, injury prone players for peanuts ourselves and it sucks but it is what it is.

Yeah, this is definitely one for the experts to work out what's a fair deal, cos the rest of us have nfi.....

He may or may not have upside, he may or may not be constantly in the medical room....way too many unknowns.

We took a punt on a player from GCS a few years back who came to us as damaged goods. We didn't pay a lot for him, but it's since been a disaster. Not saying that Chesser is in the same basket, but there's still a fair bit of 'buyer beware' attached.

Just looking at the current draft order, it may be something as simple as an exchange of pick 47 for pick 31, which gives you an extra 2nd round pick. But at the end of the day, who knows....and he may well end up staying anyway.

I'd honestly take Bris 2nd for Hawks 3rd + Chesser. Gives us a bit extra to play with for trading up, and an extra list spot. Gets my tick

Everything has gone quiet on Fritsch, that seemed like a foregone conclusion for most of the year.

Chesser is interesting and could be a good pick up, West Coast fans dont seem disappointed to lose him but I suspect very few players would have thrived in the environment at WC the past few years, seems to have a lot of AFL quality attributes and provided we are not giving up a lot is worth a shot.

If the Saints are paying JSOS big coin, perhaps they are going quiet on Leek Aleer.. IMO I would rather Aleer than Buku Khamis so perhaps we should be pivoting.

I admit that I have criticized Charlie this season for his lack of effort.
I just wonder if not having a preseason, having minor surgery and not being 100% fit had anything to do with that.
I think that's an out. It was a fair excuse for the first handful of games, maybe up to a couple of months, but he had a full season to get match fit. No ones asking him to run up and down the field like Sam Walsh, all we're asking for is that he competes for marks inside 50 instead of conceding he's beaten and just letting his defender mark the ball and make an effort to chase for a tackle 3 or 4 times a game inside 50 when he's in the play instead of being a turnstile.

If physical fitness was preventing him from doing even that, he shouldn't have been close to AFL selection.

Way too many times he was a liability - if he didn't have a clean mark of the footy he may as well have not been on the field for large chunks of the year.

So people aren’t excited because we are only linked to role players - isn’t that what we’ve wanted?
Pretty much.

We've had a bloated, top heavy cap that's limited flexibility & depth. You know what we should do though?
Blow all salary & picks gained from losing TDK & JSOS to secure a star.

It appears that way. Quality role players who can run and kick are what this teams needed for what seems like forever. If we were adding them a couple years ago to the list and not losing TDK and JSOS etc we'd probably be looking at a very different 2025 season.

Very keen to hear who else we're linked to, I suspect we'll be targeting some decent players with the freed up cap space.

I have said it few times now - last year Adelaide got Cumming, Peatling & Neale Bullen.

Not saying I wouldn't be throwing all our compo picks at Port for Butters but if we can get some role AFL level role players with speed and footskills we can be back in finals.

It's simple logic that the proceeds from losing TDK (to STK), Curnow (to SYD) and JSOS (the first two are in the elite A++ category, even if TDK not yet proven imo, but Mr Market says he is....) should be comfortably cover picking up:

1. Z. Butters.
2. A good Swans player eg Haywood or Roberts.
3. Another seasoned, B grade player with runs on the board.
4. Some extra for getting the F/S and academy deals done (Ison).
5. Other players eg Chesser.

Can't define the exact permutation and there may be up to 4 clubs in the swirl.

But just get it done.

Noting with our numerous Port connections - should be very easy to get into Butters ear - go get 'him Frankie!

Get Butters and a few good, experienced B graders in, reckon we're straight back in the top 4 mix...

Depends what we call role players I guess. I would be spewing if Chesser, Pert, Buku are getting offered close to half of what those guys would be getting paid. All those three were good AFL level players, our targets seem to be no different to most of our failed punts in the past.
