What's the deal with Ollie Henry being told to look elsewhere? Noting I'm weary of any player with talent that Geelong actually discards.... he may have killed someone, because they usually throw their arms around their own
Well, hope they get reamed in any trade as was their MO when they chased him to move down the highway.

Does give vibes of a different cat.

Doing that would be more about sending a message to player managers and other teams, that we won't be bullied.

You take a loss on this while making sure that no one else tries any other shenanigans in future.
I get that mate but I feel that's actually acting against our interests longer term.
Nobody, especially player agents, is going to respond "well they sure showed us".. they'll just nudge their players to other suitors IMO.

Game theory is a well established cornerstone of negotiation. You never ever ever cede sans compensation - the buyer never ever ever gets to set the clearing price.

I don’t disagree.
Are we negotiating though or putting Charlie in the 2s purely to send a message?
The latter is what I'm speaking to.

Mate weitering needs help now not in 3 to 4 years
I think it will be Young for a lot of the year with Haynes if he's needed to come off the wing. Dean will not be a long term prospect, will play next year. We have a lot more pressing issues so unless they are coming cheap, I can't see us going for defenders. Desperately need to address onball, wing and forward line issues well before defender issues.

I don't think we will have the resources for a defender after we have addressed our majour needs. Maybe a train on player or someone who is on the verge of retirement.

Here is a list of experience / depth players going out and coming in over the past 2 years.
You could easily raise an argument that for a team challenging, we got it wrong. I’m not totally behind that mindset but understand it.

2024
IN

Ben Camporeale (No.43 draft pick, father-son), Lucas Camporeale (No.54 draft pick, father-son), Harry Charleson (Rookie Draft), Matt Duffy (Category B rookie), Francis Evans (SSP), Nick Haynes (free agent, Greater Western Sydney), Harry O'Farrell (No.40 draft pick), Jagga Smith (No.3 draft pick), Will White (SSP)

OUT

2023
IN
Blake Acres
(trade, Fremantle), Jaxon Binns (No.32 draft pick), Alex Cincotta (pre-season supplemental selection period), Lachie Cowan(No.30 draft pick), Oliver Hollands (No.11 draft pick), Harry Lemmey(No.47 draft pick), Hudson O'Keeffe (pre-season supplemental selection period)

I think the problem we have now is it's that we hung on to a lot of those players for far too long, as a lot of those were often on the sidelines anyway. I can't see any players there who would have made us better. Some people may point to Kennedy, but I'd say we are ahead with that trade, picking up HOF with the pick we traded him for.

We picked up Acres, O.Hollands, Cowan and HOK in 2023; the last three are good long-term prospects. Acres has served a purpose.

2023 was our chance at a premiership, in form at the right time of year and on a roll. Maybe if we could have added a couple of players in 24, such as Haynes and Evans, we might have had a better chance that year. '23 is the one that got away for mine.

In 2024, we picked up the Campo twins, HOF and Jagga, who are also possible long-term prospects. Evans and Haynes were handy acquisitions, too.

So we failed in our list management. We thought the older/senior players were going to carry us through, but they didn't or couldn't. We cut too deep.
The players we cut would have brought us no closer to the ultimate success and just would have meant we missed out on some better long-term prospects.

Jordan butts and jai serong wouldn't cost the world, also jayden laverde as a free agent

I say we go for it.

I know the last 7 trades with Geelong have tanked, but I really have a feeling about this one.

Dean. These positions have and are being filled by the draft, reckon there is no need to recruit again for this position.
Dean will play 10-12 games next year. So, we need someone who'll slot in to the KPD position in the games where he isn't playing.
