I don't know why we didn't go after Ted for one of our assistant coaching roles this year.
Maybe the distance is a bit much for him after his stint at AFC Richmond. He's a strong family man.
Jeez Nate would be handy to sort out our kick ins / defensive trap / forward leading patterns & Roy/Beard would sort our transition play.
Club needs to think outside the box 😉

It's called the Senior List, hasn't been 'Primary' for ages.

And the numbers are fluid between 36 and 38.
So because we have run with 36, and have since the numbers got cut in 2020, we can open up 2 Senior List spots (ie National Draft Picks) by cutting 2 Rookies.

We currently have 1 too many Rookies.
1 either gets elevated to the Senior List (which doesn't change our List numbers), or cut, which creates 1 more Senior List spot.

We've been using the maximum amount of rookie listed players allowed but that isn't necessary. You don't need to have a 36 (Senior) + 6 (Rookie) split if you don't want to. Given you're allowed to have up to 38 Senior listed players on your list, it does open up a spot for the ND by delisting a Rookie listed player in our current situation.
Sort of...

If we have say 33 on the senior list we get 5 picks at the ND (IE up to the maximum of 38)

You don't need to have 5 vacancies on the total list to get those 5 because you can always do rookie promotions at the draft.

But the total list vacancies does limit how many "live" picks you can use at the ND - not how many you are allocated.

Edit to add: in the above example dropping an extra rookie doesn't give you an extra ND spot because that's always limited by the spots up to the 38 maximum. But it would allow you to use an extra one 'live' in the draft.

That's changed.
The Rookie promotions now happen after the draft, and don't use the last draft picks that they used to.
So the number of ND picks matches the number of Senior List spots available, but limited to a maximum of total list spots. It's just pretty rare for clubs to hit the draft with a full complement of Rookies.

If you have 38 senior and no rookies how many ND picks do you have?

I'd say 4 but can only rookie promote

McGovern is the type of player that always gets better when he doesn't play.

When he's out, gradually people start convincing themselves he's a great kick and a good interceptor that cops unfair criticism.

You can understand why it happens, on paper he is a good kick, is faster than you think, and is an alright mark with a good leap. Then in practice, you see the good kicking & marking only ever happens when there's no game pressure on. As soon as there is even an inkling of pressure, he completely turns to water and his extremely likely to cough up a shocking turnover thanks to a ridiculous skill error, poor decision or likely to drop an uncontested mark. Fans call for his head, then he gets a nick and is out for a few weeks, and the cycle repeats as fans again think he's got all these A grade attributes we're looking for.

As others have said already, he is exactly the type we've typically held onto for years longer than we should. At least this time we attempted to move past him, but I can understand bringing him back as a result of not being able to replace him. I think he'll be more depth than anything, unless he suddenly cleans up is efficiency under any modicum of pressure, but I don't think that's likely at this point in his career.

That would be illegal. AFL would not allow a club to be in this position prior to the ND.

You are limited by both the maximum size of both lists and the maximum overall list size.

Outside of the 2 irish guys who on our list is going to be no chance to play AFL next season?

Pretty much nobody. Ison maybe. The other draftee TBC.

But Dean plays from round 1 I would think.

This is depth I've never seen before. Doesn't guarantee anything but at least we've got a fairly AFL ready list.

I wouldn't completely rule out Monahan either. It's obviously unlikely but I thought he started showing quite a bit in the latter rounds of this year so further improvement might give him some chance.

The way the list has gone this year, will be bottom 4 finish next year....and I don't even think Voss will make it to the half way mark of 2026....and it's stupid we retained him cause he gets to make the final decision on players he picks this Draft to fit his coaching and playing style.....Hope common sense prevails from up top on this one....

With no setbacks he could get 2/3/4 reserve games under his belt, good confidence boost leading into the next season…
To get that many games under his belt, he's need to be doing a hell of a lot of running a month or two before that. I think we (and he ) would benefit more from him just working on strength for those few months. Start on the fitness side of it around October/November so he's cherry ripe for pre season.

Would love him to go beastmode ala thilthorpe.

I like White, but think Young looks better.
He’s a good kick, and makes some really smart decisions. He took some time to catch up to the pace of the game, but he only came in in the mid-season draft. I think his composure improved pretty dramatically.
Wait till he gets a preseason in with the team.
Even those little taps to advantage he pulled out were class.

BluesDeluxe I wouldn't argue with Stamos on list numbers
Rain Man GIF by Filmin
I enjoyed Tootsie.

Thithorpe is a freakin unit, only 23yrs, might take Harry a while if he can even get anywhere near that, great if he gets close..

We’ll look back on your last paraphrase there around late December early January with a wry smile and tear filled eyes lol

Yes Lij :thumbsu:

THE CARLTON Football Club can today confirm a further three changes to its AFL playing list.

Jaxon Binns will depart IKON Park, while Will White and Elijah Hollands will be considered for pre-season train-on opportunities following the conclusion of the draft in November.
