Ah Chee is from WA and is moving to SA for a bigger paycheck at another contender.

We were apparently one of the teams interested in him before he nominated Adelaide so I see no reason we wouldn't at least look at taking him for free in the PSD.

Been a number of players over the years who have ended up at clubs they didn't want to be and ended up having good careers there. If we could turn his head he'd be a fantastic addition to our team for 3-4 years.

Wrong. He wanted to go to Adelaide for family reasons... do your research.

Yeah... Totally... The player who's said he's only willing to go to Adelaide and not even considered Port Adelaide is moving because he needs to get there for 'family reasons'. Nothing to do with the $$$ and playing for another contender...

Nothing to do with money? Where did I say that...

Oh that's right, I didn't... just put words in posts... internet doesn't work that way mate.

Every player wants a bigger paycheck... but he could have got that from a lot of clubs...

He wanted to go to SA for family reasons... his parents and brother moved there... He chose Adelaide because he was a big Crows supporter...

I still remember when we stole Nick Stevens from Collingwood in the psd

I enjoy White’s endeavour and energy, but he doesn’t have any skill or attribute good enough to play a specific role in a team at the moment. Fog at least is great defensively, so can play as a pressure forward. Plus he has runs on the board from 2023 and 24

OK - so assuming our 19 year old who has done his ACL late last season gets put on the inactive list (not a wild assumption) - WW gets that spot.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they're saying to Will White behind the scenes. Don't worry you've got that SSP spot if/when it becomes available.

I really like Will. Such a smart player.

Can’t see HOF being put onto the Inactive List unless there are complications with his rehab, though personally would do so (if he could play VFL only).

He’ll be 3 months-in shortly from the injury, however the other milestones in Feb & May will be more telling on his progress and our inclination to sub him out (round 21 = 12 months).

Think we’d be more open to a KPP, as we’re off in that dept.
JSOS, CC, Lemmey, HOF out/unavailable with a young H.Dean the only in + pseudo KPP option Kemp potentially in cotton wool. Pretty grim.

I didn't say that you did. You've just gone ahead and assumed that.

I think he’s lucky based on performance, however to insinuate he’s detrimental to the club culture is drawing a long bow.
He might be fantastic around the club, only they would know.
Hence the new deal.
I should've been more specific, but I'll explain further. When I talk about culture, it's always about the way the team performs on field and never about whether they're a "good bloke". I would argue that rewarding McGovern, a senior player who picks and chooses when to put his body on the line, with another contract is detrimental to club culture as it relates to on-field performance. It sends the wrong message to the rest of our playing list.

Spot on. Been many cases of players over the years having their minds set on one place and ending up at another. Doesn't mean they'll kick up a huge stink about it.
At worse he puts a massive contract on his head that only Adelaide want to touch and it leaves them less money for Bailey next year

Getting a pick in between Dean and Ison is problematic. Makes it impossible to maximise the bidding system. Having our first pick swallowed and our 2nd slide back towards the end of the 1st round is worst possible result.

A lot of people seem not to mind this but I think that is just wanting the sugar hit now.

Trading ahead of a bid or out makes much more sense.

So at best he'll come back R21 for a few VFL games? I can't see the point. Get him ready for preseason for a big 2027.

Even on his limited games, White has shown more at the AFL level than Fog, has probably even kicked more Goals in his first year than Fog in his last 3. Fog's 1 wood is tackling. That's about it.

That is absurd. Fog’s best absolutely is better than anything White has shown at the level. I just emphasised that Fog can at least play as a defensive forward - then you bring up how White is better because he kicks more. You completely missed my point

There’s a secondary discussion here too, around the role of the defensive small fwd in the current game.

To me, it seems like the Richmond-era days of purely pressure focused defensive small forwards is gone, at least for now.

The ā€˜new crop’ tend to be attacking players with a bit of a defensive edge (as opposed to the Menzel school of all attack and nothing at all the other way). They’re applying pressure and making tackles, perhaps not to the same level as those 5-7 years earlier, but critically the focus is still truly on scoring or assisting scoring.

I think Fog is probably our least threatening forward.

Hes probably our last threatening forward from a goal scoring point of view - although he was top 5 in the league for goal assists per game late in the season in 2024.

Another lens to look at it through is what they’ve done to this point. Fog has played a key role in the best version of this team, and was essential in getting us to a prelim final in 23. We also won like 14 games in a row when he was in the side over that period. Currently, White has played okay cameo roles in losing sides.

I will never slander white for his effort or energy, but I do question things like cleanliness, his ability to tackle, his kicking, etc

Thought it might be a good idea to do the old depth chart

Going to make a few provisions with definitions. Will use the AFL websites categorizations, but will be shifting players where it makes sense ie : Mitch McGovern is a key defender but I will assign him as a key forward because of obvious depth issues.

Gen Forward:

Will Hayward
Ben Ainsworth
Francis Evans
Jesse Motlop
Ashton Moir
Lachie Fogarty
Rob Monahan

Key Forward

Harry McKay
Mitch McGovern
Brodie Kemp

Mid-Fwd:

Zac Williams
Matthew Cottrell
Flynn Young

Midfielder

Patrick Cripps
Sam Walsh
George Hewett
Adam Cerra
Cooper Lord
Jagga Smith
Ben Camporeale

Wing:

Oliver Florent
Blake Acres
Campbell Chesser
Lucas Camporeale

Ruck:

Marc Pittonet
Liam Reidy
Hudson O'Keefe

Gen Defender:

Nick Haynes
Adam Saad
Nic Newman
Lachie Cowan
Matthew Carroll
Billy Wilson
Jordan Boyd
Harry Charleson
Matt Duffy

Key Defender

Jacob Weitering
Lewis Young
Harry O'Farrell

So nice of you to say Willem.... but kindly stfu
Sounds like Willem doesn’t want to go to West CoastšŸ˜‰

Let’s be honest, clubs won’t give two figs what Deans peers think where he’ll go in the draft, they’ll make their own minds up on the facts they see every week he plays and compare that to what they see of how his peers play.

If Dean goes at 1, does it matter? Walker may go at 1 next year as well…that will just mean we have 2 absolute guns for the future

Wild that we live in a world where Harry Dean being Pick 1 worthy is a bad thing. :(

We will still get him. Plus Ison. Can’t bloody wait.

Yeah but we want more :p

In all seriousness though, Dean bid on at pick 1 would be pure games. He's a great talent, but most have him between the 5 - 10 range.

All the teams with picks before us in the draft are pretty well stocked with kpd options too... apart from Melbourne. They could bank on us matching their bids (99% chance we will) but that 1% chance we don't... it will be very poor list management for them...

Yeah different situations all right... he wants to go home for family reasons... which is totally reasonable and understandable unlike the Clownow having a cry... but yeah let's draft him against his will because we're in the flag window next couple years aren't we...
He’s not from Adelaide so he’s not going home, he’s going for cash and a team he thinks is on the right track
