Spot on. Been many cases of players over the years having their minds set on one place and ending up at another. Doesn't mean they'll kick up a huge stink about it.
Different states may have something to do with it.
Stevens was heading to COL/VIC anyway, or so he was hoping.
Ah Chee wants SA (WCE could go there but it seems SA has won out on over WA on the family front).
In saying that, it is a national comp. I’d like Brisbane to be able to persuade him to stay. Adelaide has a habit of not being able to pay up for their trades..

He's supposedly going to refuse communications with anyone but the Crows including Port Adelaide, but he's desperate to get back to SA for 'family reasons'!
What is likely to happen if Port picks him instead?
They'd have the salary cap room.

Does he retire?

I also think player movement has changed.

Players are used to getting to go where they want now. In fact they expect it. Clubs are also not keen on recruiting players who dont want to be there. Particularly for big money.

Ah Chee not talking to anyone is absolutely the smart play for him. In this era he knows its unlikely anyone calls his bluff.

Different to Nick Stevens. He knew the moment a trade with pies wasnt done that he wasnt getting there, so made peace with going to Carlton.

He'd go to Port. Adelaide are just trying to make it hard for other teams to take him by him refusing to communicate with them or doing medicals.

They did the same with Hately and threatened to do the same with Dawson so they could get him for ridiculous unders.

Getting a pick in between Dean and Ison is problematic. Makes it impossible to maximise the bidding system. Having our first pick swallowed and our 2nd slide back towards the end of the 1st round is worst possible result.

A lot of people seem not to mind this but I think that is just wanting the sugar hit now.

Trading ahead of a bid or out makes much more sense.
Watched a mock draft youtube video earlier today - they had Dean being matched at pick 8 and we get pick 21 in return.

With pick 21, we selected Latrelle Sumner-Pickett. I'd be pretty happy with that scenario.

Florent, Chesser, Ainsworth and Hayward are all considerable upgrades in terms of our speed and endurance issues. I'd much rather others outside of Dovaston but if we end up selecting him I'm not going to kick up much of a stink.
Remember that you're replacing Cottrell, Acres, Fantasia, and Kemp, so I'm not seeing the speed/endurance upgrade at all.

It's going to come from these new names plus some of the old.
Another idiotic question (without notice) from the hippy at the back of the bus.

Can we bundle 9 & 11 to go higher to match other bids??
Those picks can already pay for pick 2 with change.
Ruck:

Marc Pittonet
Liam Reidy
Hudson O'Keefe
Surely O'Keeffe is in a ruck battle with Pittonet this season, he showed more than enough.

I should've been more specific, but I'll explain further. When I talk about culture, it's always about the way the team performs on field and never about whether they're a "good bloke". I would argue that rewarding McGovern, a senior player who picks and chooses when to put his body on the line, with another contract is detrimental to club culture as it relates to on-field performance. It sends the wrong message to the rest of our playing list.
We did wait until there were no better options. Only reason he got a deal is is because the Khamis deal fell over. There doesn't seem to be anyone better in that role available as a DFA and a drafter wouldn't be ready this year.

So at best he'll come back R21 for a few VFL games? I can't see the point. Get him ready for preseason for a big 2027.
I agree. By round 16-17 he'd be in a running program to get back for round 21.

I think he'd benefit more by being in a strength program for 3-6 months. Focus on getting as strong as possible before settling into ramping up his running by around November so that he's ready for preseason.

Club very much see HOK as a Forward who can Ruck and not a No.1 Ruck. It will be Pittonet & Reidy fighting for Ruck spot with Young as back up next season
Agree, I can't see Pitto & Reidy in the same side from what I've heard about Reidy. Primarily a tap ruckman. We can't have two ruckmen in the same side who don't offer more than pure ruckwork.

I get the argument, but I would still prefer the list spot. Phillips/Frost/Blight all better options for me.

I was hopeful we would sign Flynn Riley as a rookie ruckman and Phillips as a KPD. Given spots we have left likely won’t happen unless we cut a Fogarty etc or get an LTI during pre season

That is absurd. Fog’s best absolutely is better than anything White has shown at the level. I just emphasised that Fog can at least play as a defensive forward - then you bring up how White is better because he kicks more. You completely missed my point
Not really, if Fog, or Motlop or Durdin were doing their jobs, White wouldn't even have been picked up in the first place.

Playing as a defensive forward still means you have to score, and Fog is scared of taking the shot most times.
If you are a forward who is scared to have a shot, you need to go.

Besides, it's abundantly clear that our game plan is going to be largely focussed around attacking footy as well as the contest, so i can't see Fog getting much game time this year.

I like his clubmanship, but he is a dinosaur.

In that case, **** em. Let's go get him.
