Leadership aside and with all due respect to the careers those players had I don't think any of them would've been in our best 30-odd players next season.

Think our best three additions (McVee, Sweid and Murray) will actually offer more to our depth than these four would have.
Agree.
And crazy to think they’ll elevate this group next season.

I like the selection of Harding. His stats for Murray Bushrangers are great so why did he get overlooked?

Cox has a maximum of 2 years left, Darcy is injury prone. Harding is 19 and atheltic. If Riddle doesnt develop then we need a developing ruck. With the small forward selections we made i dont see Scerri as a requirement.
With there new rules at centre throw up rather than bounce downs I think Riddle is too short as he doesn't have a massive leap. to play afl football as a ruck for extended periods./ Harding is 199cm too but was fifth for vertical jump for the state combine tested players. I think Riddle may have to play predominately forward to get an afl game while Harding could play ruck and forward.

What do you think will be the biggest impact on the ruck requirements, throw up instead of bounce or less boundary throw ins due to last possession now a free kick

I think the centre throw up will be even more important now. Teams won't be able to get away with playing key position players as second rucks as much as they will consistently lose tap outs more often due to how predictable the throw up will be. Mason Cox was a super smart move by us in my opinion for that very teason. Without him if we lost Jackson and Darcy we'd risk being exposed when we had a key position player rucking. Cpx is 211cm. He'll benefit as much as anyone from the change of rules.

If you can win that tap, predictably, then you can start every game at your half forward line. That's massive.
Taylor thats my read of the small forward focus - playing two rucks and three forwards with a fleet of fleet small forwards at their feet means marking a whole lot less critical, and locking it into the opps 50 a whole lot more achievable.

Guessing medium forwards may become a rarity… (which is good as we dont have many!;)

If both rucks are forced to jump and aerially compete, I think the tall, slow inside mids, like Cripps, may be disadvantaged as there will be less ruck knocks that land close to the feet of the rucks.

There should be a little less congestion and players that have good hands and have off the mark pace should prosper. Players that rely on positioning, strength and giving off the hands in congestion, may find it a bit harder.

So what I'm hearing is that we should put Sturt on the LTI list and get another ruckman and small forward to train on.

I agree. Bring it to ground and pressure for a stoppage or mark it straight from the clearance, even a dirty clearance.

I think that depends how much your ruckman will block the space. Sandi could tap it anywhere but brought it to his feet because it's the most controlled and he could protect plenty of space so a smaller player can run off with it. I don't see why that would change, both ruckmen will be within reach of the other so if your contest is close to them they will be called upon to contest again anyway.

Taps out wide are so risky with the shape of the footy too, you could knock it clear and suddenly it bounces on it's end and your opponent is now in space.

I do think it's advantage to players who can clear the ball running out of the stoppage but that's the same as it is now.

Is it bad that I genuinely rate this idea?

Can't believe how many people write off Jye Amiss and Dudley but still hold out hope for Sturt lmao.

Some fun facts:
  • Dudley, with no full pre-season under his belt, played more games in 2025 (16) than Sam Sturt has ever strung together in a single season.
  • For all the shit talk about Amiss and how he had a "terrible" year and he should be dropped blah blah blah, his avg amount of goals this season 1.33 (his equal lowest AVG in a season btw) is equal to Sam Sturts 2nd best goal average. I don't even need to look at goal assists, i50s, 1%s to know the full picture.
