Not a hater but I agree. Hughes just finished up with us and was handy at times. Like Banfield he was unconditional about effort. Good to have some players like that around the place.banners haters will hate this but I think he would be one of our few listed players that could actually survive another 10 years of footy.

If he really was requesting a trade up until the final hours as Twomey said, then they’ll know it’s happening again.
And with genuine family reasons to move they’d be bonkers to try hold him for another year.
If he wasn’t coming to my club I’d be dirty on him going loud and public with a request before his contracts up. But since he’s coming here…

Love to get Pickett but he’s got form about flirting with idea of moving. He’s on a long term contract.
McVee is out of contract and fills a need as a general defender.
If you at the cost analysis, Mcvee will be cheaper in salary and trade assets.
McVee replacing Wagner or Aish would a massive improvement to our backline.
Reid could easily replace Walters anyway.

Nah. Every indication from direct quotes has been that it's a matter of when he re-signs rather than if. The Christmas thing is really just fans seeing a recent pattern of 2 data points and taking it to be a rule of thumb.
I'd get slightly worried if it wasn't done by Round 1 2025, but until then I wouldn't be too fussed.

All jokes aside no one is actually seriously worried that Brayshaw might really leave us are they? Might not be today but before the start of the season he'll sign to be here for life similar to Young just did. Merry Christmas!

We've had one Christmas Day contract announcement (which as nice as it was, from a media stand point slightly backfired) and many now seem to think we are due one each year

It was one of the best Christmas Day pressies I’ve had for years
Was brilliant as a Christmas present - still remember sitting there at breakfast with the family and seeing it pop up on my phone and going nuts haha.
But that was a huge deal, young gun committing long term (5 years was long in '22) - but barely got any media coverage as most of the AFL media are on leave.
For the media and comms team, it wouldn't have gotten the coverage that the club would have wanted for such a big announcement, and these days there's so many metrics they'd be looking at. Club fans/members is just one part of the equation, albeit very important.

He's the ultimate team man. It's taking a long time because both sides are comfortable, and I'd say any remaining negotiations would be around how the deal is structured. Hopefully he's open to getting a fairly back loaded deal so we can squeeze Warner or Kozzie into the cap.
