I want to trial dropping Sharp and bringing in Noddy. Share the wing responsibilities between multiple players.
I like the idea of fat side wing by committee. Nod, MJ Freddy.

As brad pitt would say in Moneyball recreate him in the aggregate.

MJs big tackle on the fat side wing was a genuine outer wing contest that I don't think sharp could have won.

Exactly, then we can play Noddy on ball. That will be the real game booster for us. I just think bringing in Noddy who was developing brilliantly this season will produce a bigger output then Sharp. Sharp would make great depth for us.

Agreed, but must also credit that Sharp was harder over the ball this game than I have ever seen him before. I think JL loves his running ability and the fact he is always an extra in our backline to disrupt the opposition, it is what is keeping him in the team at the moment.

Sharp may be playing an ultra defensive role more focussed on taking up dangerous areas than being on outlet option on turnover where we seem to be using the corridor more.

The fact that we’ve won the last 3 without him getting much of it seems a bit strange & maybe a bit more of a directive as our general possession count is high. He could be playing a very unselfish game that is contributing to the wins.

Note, I have no evidence to back this up & are likely talking out of my ass.

Jack Delean should be watching Ollie Dempsey very closely and doing everything he does.
Here hoping it’s a bit of a watershed moment (yesterday’s game) for the kid and he goes on with it from here and earns another contract .

Obviously has his flaws but has always been a natural goal kicker.
And we could still use as many of those players as possible

Sharp is also on the rookie list which probably complicates things a little bit.

We’ve committed to upgrading Draper so do we want to upgrade two or is a contract similar to Schultz, Worner, Draper etc where he spends year one on the rookie list then is upgraded better for the club? Is that what Sharp wants?

Think upgrading two rookies makes list spots on the senior list quite tight tbh. Might mean we’re risking another Max Knobel situation with a depth player. Having said that both Sharp and Voss are year three on the rookie list next year so we’re only kicking the can down the road really - the same issue is there next year.

Honestly believe it’s best for the club to keep Sharp on the rookie list another season. With a senior list of 36, having good playing on rookie list is very important for depth IMO.

These situations are easy, pick an old player, like JOM who is contracted, and absolutely nobody will contract. Delist and re-rookie.

We won't do it though.

We'll pick our last out of contract player we want to re-sign like we have done the last 3-4 years.

Hopefully the Knobel situation was enough of a warning though.

They should be easy but we don't do it

Brodie should definitely be done this year though IMO, even the club would do it

I'd do Sharp for 2 but can see him not wanting less than 3, I think I'd be happy to go up to 3 for him, has played every game and would be handy depth considering our wing replacement is injury prone (NOD)

Think our depth on the wings is always gonna be lower than the mids anyway, which is where Brodie has struggled

Would explain the big game yesterday.

Ballas has been back at Peel since March. Maybe having an influence, but he'd be a good role model.

With Delean though, even if it's not at Fremantle, he's only turned 20yo in April. There are some Top 10 picks who make an impact before that age, but there's also lots of great small forwards who have had to work at it, been drafted at an older age, or have been delisted and come back in the early 20's.

Definitely harder, he had a couple of red hot goes in the last. Shows a lot of discipline in his role of running and blocking exits on his side etc. you would think they are working on bringing him into the game more possession wise, clearly doing some coach instructions to continuously play that way. Harder for him playing that as team is going a little more direct which coincides with less possession. Be an interesting watch from here

Not sure I'm ready to write him off just yet.

Play out the rest of the season and see where he's at then.

At the end of day all of us have no idea and talk out of arses collectively but your arse talking assumption is a decent one. He keeps getting a game and is running extremely high volume each game.

Sharp is the last one I’m concerned about getting poached. With Whan coming in we have him covered, but neither should we be pushing him out.

He fills a need and at worst is great depth in a mature body, Banfield-style

Reckon Brodie may be the one we are willing to risk it for
What's the 'risk' in the first place? It should be the least required player (not youngsters wity potential either) being demoted to the Rookie list.

It'll be McDonald or Delean if anyone if the club stays consistent but it 100% should be Brodie.

Pure wingers are perennially underrated and Sharp is no exception to that. I don't want to attach too many pics but he's also up there for total sprints AND he's up there every single week across all these categories.

Running away from the contest is decongestion, something we've massively struggled with—and likely to earn you zero on the stat sheet.

Only the coaches can say if Sharp is doing his job; the stat sheet isn't going to tell you that.

Is it pretty much agreed that even if Jackson wanted to go, Melbourne can't possibly get it done without Kozi leaving?

I tried to check the D&T board for a Dees perspective but Freo fans were getting a lecture on how Jackson wasn't even dominating games..

How long do you want Sharp contracted? Three or four years might secure that position on field for us but if another player takes it over from him he doesn't have another string to his bow and could end up at Peel for three years.

Sharp should be securing his future for as long as possible, in every respect but Freo need to be careful. He isn't in the same group as Nick Martin etc.

Erasmus and Sharp I'd like to see extended for two to three, Wagner signed up for the rest of his playing career, Johnson extended.

Sharp has already been pushed out by another club, surely he's not getting a 3 year offer elsewhere?? Maybe the Eagles?

The club will have learnt from Will Brodie, I'm guessing 2 years for Sharp.

If the club had the power I would be doing something like this:

Sharp - 2
Raz - 3
LJ - 6
Wags - 3
Johnson - 3

All those players and their managers would jump a those deals at the right money. A couple of them will be at Peel or relying on injuries to play next season and beyond.

If Kossie Pickett comes across what's our midfield batting order in 2026 assuming everyone is fit?

Young
Serong
Brayshaw
Bolton
Pickett
O'Driscoll
Wagner
Johnson
Reid
O'Meara
Erasmus
Simpson
Anyone else
Brodie

You've also got Jackson rolling through there when Darcy is in the ruck.
