I think we’d be crazy to let Erasmus go now after all the hard yards he’s done in development.
I’ve been very skeptical in the past but apparently his work ethic is as good as it gets and I think he’s shown he can play now.
He brings a bigger body & hard edge around the contest and the sheer will to get involved that should see him play at the top level.
I don’t think we can count on Young being able to stay on the park consistently unfortunately. Still early days but he’s had a worrying number of injuries so far.

Losing him and / or Sharp would be shocking.

You get pretty much nothing for them (3rd rounder probably), and both are very close to best 22 next year.

With Erasmus, I look at what Collingwood do with Long and I think he could play that role. You place a cheap inside mid in the middle, and have him get the ball out to the better players and take a beating in the process.

I don't want Young on the inside, I want him getting the ball from Erasmus.

Jeremy sharp struggled for opportunity at the Suns and hasnt missed a game since he came here. It would be mighty brave of him to look elsewhere if there is a contract on the table here.

Bloody good player but I wouldn't be paying the alleged $1.2m for him. If Melbourne have that change for him then surely they know a player is moving. If they lose one of Oliver/Petracca no way he gets off the chain as often.

If we had money for Warner then surely we have money for Pickett. Depends on the outcome of the Jackson shenanigans.

Agree on the first paragraph. Not sure about the second. Warner to Freo had the most traction during the middle of last year, before Bolton came a bit out of the blue.

Bolton eats much of what would have been set aside for Warner. Could possibly still squeeze in Pickett on 800k. But with his value skyrocketing to well over 1 million, it's getting too expensive.

What did we give Brayshaw when he resigned recently? What are we going to need for Serong? What about Jackson angling for a pay rise? It would be hard to justify paying them less than Pickett, especially the first two who are the heart and soul of our club.

Bolton at least came with an existing mega contract and it is easy to sell to other players that he deserves his contract to be honoured.

There's also the recent evidence of GWS and Adelaide suffering opposite fortunes for losing/gaining the mid-range types like Neale-Bullen, Cumming, Peatling. Maybe we should focus on this area rather than overloading on stars on huge contracts. Maybe we coughed up a tad more for NOD last year. Or need to do that for Erasmus, Voss, Wagner, Chapman, Johnson, Freddy etc. Or shake loose a McVee/Starcevich level player.

You could have said the same about Acres.

I guess on the other hand you would say he knows how short his AFL career can be, and is looking for as long as contract as possible.

No one should begrudge Logue at all, he was being shifted around here and Freo clearly hadn't been overwhelming in their belief in him.

Get offered that sort of money to move and a clear role to own - would be crazy to turn it down.
I actually think it's a shame he hasn't gone better, but his lack of footy brains was always going to put a ceiling on him regardless.

That applies to every player in my opinion. I've seen enough guys leave the game with lifelong niggles if not injury, spending their playing days walking a fine line between getting enough rehab and recovery in just to play to have to start it all again. They earn their cash and a club will cut them without blinking if they are too injured from backing into oncoming traffic so they better look after themselves financially. I don't ever begrudge a player getting their payday. It's why I wouldn't blame Jackson leaving to St Kilda for $1.7m a year, didn't blame Brad Hill for similar or Lachie Neale. Disappointed to lose them, but they are private contractors working in an industry that will end their career in a moment.

Clubs have been hobbled in showing loyalty back to their players with the changes of the veterans list rules. Previously, a player who was on the list for ten years, over thirty, could have half their salary off the cap. Pavlich and Sandilands were the highest paid players in the league during this period, but not on the salary cap.

Logue was offered life changing money, can't turn it down.

Erasmus could be in the same situation.

Yes, there are guys like Crawford who have their bodies working for them post career but there are many former AFL players who try and get into things like Iron Man because they like the competition and focus on their health - but the long distance triggers their scar tissue in their hips, groin, hamstrings, calves etc and they break down. And it's really hard emotionally to get that old that fast.

Full interview is here (Full interview is much better)

Disappointed to here Melbourne talk about Jackson. Not something we do.
Normal Jackson spill from Garlic.

Erasmus has wanted more opportunities for a long time, but has done a great job the last 3 weeks.

Ticket Sales - Heading towards 30k . Hoping for 35 to 40k.

Deal done a bit late, wasn't able to include in our membership deal. Expect it included or the option to include it next year.

If we get to mid to high 30's we cover our costs for underwriting the game for NM.(Expect a push later in week)

Not unlike a certain team in purple for a decade or more…
Logue is a case study on how North or Brady Rawlings more specifically pay massive overs for everybody. Partly because nobody would go there otherwise, Luke Parker has Sydney paying a portion of his salary, but then they turn around and give the likes of Luke Davies-Uniacke an absolute king's ransom.

I think the most disappointing aspect of him leaving (although Mundy was retiring anyway) was the end of Old Bull Young Buck. Him and Barra were a much better duo than the current mob.

Sharp could be of interest to WC who have dollars to spend and would be able to get him for free. If we want Sharp we may need a competitive offer.

Erasmus will and possibly already has an offer to consider. I'm not sure if he is a 'must keep so we pay top dollar' level player. He is developed now, and he is on the cusp of best 22. If WC want him they can certainly beat what we have available, and again, is potentially free/cheap due to the PSD.

I expect their management to do their best to leverage the best outcome for the pair of them. If it happened it would be pretty outrageous. If I was WC I would chase them. They will struggle to get big name players.

This bit is interesting, as I had thought that Freo had no financial investment in it. Really surprised to find otherwise. It makes the fact that the club did not do more to promote early access to seats very hard to understand.

The Cal Twomey thing is a non-story. Of course Melbourne are going to offer a long term extention to Kozzie - he's one of the best small forwards in the comp. He has the right to refuse, and the Dockers have the right to offer something better. 10 years would be a gamble, but it worked for Buddy.

Have we been played again to boost his contract?

From Ryan Daniels, sounds like we were only offering him the cash of his current contract (700k roughly), and Melbourne have gone in way over the top, guessing around 1.2 million. (Similar to the St Kilda offer for de Koning)

I don't think we have been played (He is known to change his mind very often), and we were not offering any where near a million dollars.

To some extent, it gives me confidence that we won't over pay for players and **** up or salary cap in the process.

I don't see how it really changes things. He can sign the deal and then in 12-24 months turn around and say he wants to come here still.
It is really no different then the current situation, the Dees already have contractual control over him and there is speculation he wants to move. How does a different contract really change that other then give them more bargaining power in a trade??

Highly likely Kozzie signs, gets the guaranteed money, then asks for a trade in a few years knowing Freo will have to cough up $1m+ per season. His manager knows exactly what he is doing.

Fair chance thats how it plays out yep.
I get the feeling based upon the media reporting that we have already told his manager that those $$$ are out of reach for us.
