Noted that he said he wanted to play in long pants yesterday if he could so clearly doesnt like the cold in Melbourne. Still, that is too much money to pass up.
 
The only way a deal would have been possible is if Melbourne had an awful year and they decided to blow it up. They have been pretty good these last few weeks, largely because of Pickett's All-Australian form. He is just too good of a player to trade.

I think we probably are overpaying, but you must understand, he is our most marketable player by a street, for a niche club like Melbourne in a big Victorian market, the 400,000 is for that alone, plus he's easily our best player in terms of winning games of his own boot.

Sounds like a fait accompli but you never now, I was resigned to watching him for the next two years then heading back west.
 
It may not be as exciting as Kozzie Pickett but I know that Freo are heavily into Dan Curtin and he is not certain his long time future is in Adelaide. It’s not so much the football club but more he has not settled into Adelaide living. Unfortunately the eagles are of course also aware and also very keen.

As much as the Pickett news sucks, $1.4m is ridiculous and there isn’t a player on our list I would pay that much. Premierships are won by teams, not individuals. So the question is now, how can we make our side better. Is there anyone we can trade in?
 
Perhaps that $1.4m average is based on Pickett getting the million from Petracca and the million from Oliver in 2026, 2027 and 2028 when they are sold off. $8.1m in the first three years and then quieting right down.

He’s looked good on the wing , adds some uniqueness to our list …. had a crap game when the crows came here but I spent a good half a quarter watching him move , some players you can just tell even if they haven’t shown much

I don’t think you can commit to such massive numbers under assumptions.

If that’s what they gave Kozzy, imagine the number they presented to Luke Jackson

Draft and NGA’s this year and trade in Dan Curtin next year after we grab his brother in this years draft.

Kosi wanting to come home is obviously genuine, but his head would’ve been turned more based on our offer OF WHICH I’m near certain the next 2 years he would’ve been well compensated.

Say his last 2 years he’s on $800k. Freo possibly would’ve said something along the lines of ‘We’ll offer 6 years for $6 million, with the next 2 years being $2.4 total’

Kosi would’ve not only got to go home but pocketed an extra $800k over the next 2 years.

What he probably didn’t realise was that Melbourne would restructure his current contract and add years and offer him the world.

If he doesn’t sign soon, then there’s a huge chance he still wants to come home and that we’ve found some extra pennies.

Dammit. Bolton, Kozzie and Reid would have been ridiculous fun to watch together and an absolute nightmare for every team.

Can’t we just offer him a mill a year for 15 years? Sacrifice a bit of cap in 10+ years time to go all in for now?

He’s gone from a very good inconsistent forward to being a top 5 player in the comp on current form. I believe Kozzy would still like to play for freo but this money is way to hard to pass up, it’s $500k more a year then Freo can afford and probably 4-5 years more.
The question is now hes got the money will he push himself to get better or just coast for a few years and ask for a trade in 2029
