Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
Itd be more about money with Darcy. Our best 22 is going to soon be at the stage where we could fluke a premiership but it never hurts to upgrade our team - wing, small forward, small defender could all be options and perhaps more impactful than a ruck.I am just going off what Daniels has said. I think if someone offers us a late 1st, early 2nd for him then we take it.
I would love it if a different club paid his salary, and a 6th rounder.
He had the talent, probably just not the absolute mongrel competitiveness that AFL players need to succeed. I don't think injuries have helped him just as he was looking like having an outside role that suited his skill set.It was really only ever about the optics of an NGA product and that the kid had his own business and i think they were thinking about a Son Son replacement at the time. Completely different players and i think we overestimated his ability.
Problem is there’s no back up ruck ready to jump in to AFL level, as the fault of list management.Itd be more about money with Darcy. If we can make enough cash by offloadibg Darcy to add a clear best 22 player and a back up ruck I'd do it. Any draft pick we get for Darcy is just a bonus if we've improved our best 22.
Again nothing to do with picks for Brodie. It's about getting the list spot so we can use it on a draftee or depth player we actually intend on using. It's a waste of time having Brodie if he's never under consideration for selection. Better to get a years development into a draftee.

He has out clauses - don’t worry about that.Dang, that Kozzie afl article doesn't exactly point a great picture of Van Der Wielen to Freo
“Hey man I really want to get back to WA and be around country and community”Dang, that Kozzie afl article doesn't exactly point a great picture of Van Der Wielen to Freo
Nah, he's gone. Even if he then pleads to go home in three years and have some sort of handshake deal they will get it done, it will cost the earth in trade capital and cap space that he's now unobtainable for Freo. It'll have to be to West Coast......I just spewed up in my mouth a little bit.He has out clauses - don’t worry about that.
Great bit of spin by Lamb regarding the break glass I’m out…Freo will pick up the contract in 3 years…. No doubt about it.
We also end up with Denver Grainger Barass instead of Chapman as our first rounder doesn’t get pushed back.Picking Caleb Serong cost us Pickett, and probably would have seen our academy player bid on later (at the Melbourne pick) because Carlton wanted Hayden Young and Caleb Serong in that order, then had nobody left to pick and needed time to arrange a trade to move back to where their next player targets were.
So we could have had Hayden Young #7, Kosi Pickett #8, Serong goes to Carlton at #9, Melbourne bid on Green at #10, Melbourne bid on Henry at #11, Melbourne pick Cody Weightman at #12
Surprised he didn’t manage to talk Shai out of coming here too.Seems amazing that Shai ended up coming based on Van Der Wielen's comments in that article. I remember he was the one convincing Kelly not to come to Freo too

How the hell could you know what clauses are built into his contract? Was this disclosed somewhere in the media? He has out clauses - don’t worry about that.

There isn't one in the draft/state leagues. There might be one as a DFA or someone who's constantly rolling over on one year contracts that'd be tempted by a two year deal.Problem is there’s no back up ruck ready to jump in to AFL level, as the fault of list management.
Reidy is on the outer and clearly doesn’t seem to be competitive at AFL level.

It really is a business full of massive egosPlayer managers are scum
Except Mora's brotherPlayer managers are scum
There are a lot of back up rucks floating around the AFL that would offer more than Reidy. There isn't one in the draft/state leagues. There might be one as a DFA or someone who's constantly rolling over on one year contracts that'd be tempted by a two year deal.
Sponsors and endorsements is where the money's atI wonder if Tim Kelly falls in the basket of "didn't work".
Van Der Wielen seems like just another manager looking out for one thing and one thing only ... his own bank account. They like to pretend like they are big shot high rollers, but it's all just a facade, as I don't think they really make that much money unless they have a huge stable.
Google AI tells me AFL player managers get 2-5% commission, maybe with bonuses for trades/contract negotiations. Promotional/endorsements could bring in some more. But let's stick with the basics ... at the highest rate of 5%, that would be les than $200k for the only players he has of note (e.g. 700k Kelly + 500k SPP + 200k Narkle + 1 million Bolton + 1.4 million Pickett). His son is also listed as part of the team, and maybe they have some side hussles, but I don't think it is really that much money for two people. Especially when it could be a lot less depending on commission, plus impending loss of income from Kelly and Narkle. You can see why he was pushing hard for Pickett to take it. I'm not sure how it works with say the Demons paying him a big bonus, but maybe that comes into it.
He didn’t for quite sometime, he wanted to play on and we shut him down."...players had left Victoria and moved to WA where it worked, and those where it didn't, including former client Jeff Farmer."
Wot. The Wizard loves Freo.
