I dont think Sydney trade him in contract.Kosi is clearly locked away long term. I know Chad signed an extension BUT could we go down that path again?
We likely didn’t overly pursue because there was a likely belief Kosi was a huge chance.
Now?
Well more dollars for Chad, still have all our tradeable currency. Could we go harder??

I actually thought we were a sneaky chance at Chad at the end of this season.
At one stage it made a lot of sense. Sydney on the down trend and unlikely to make finals this year (or next year). So they could cash in now and we would trade them more than they would get from free agency compo.
However now Sydney's players are returning from injury they seem to have regain some form.
If they come home relatively well and think they are a shot at finals in 2026, they won't trade.

I think Taylor is intimating that LJ’s partner’s body clock might force the issue (she is 33 years old).Hmmm And why would that be???
Because his missus is 33?Hmmm And why would that be???
No current season stats available
It was highlighted by Leigh Matthews on the Fox Footy show this week how refreshing it was to see Jackson and the Essendon ruck actually have a run and jump at the ball in the centre contest like rucks used to do in the good old days, unlike the majority of the other rucks in the league now that just grab a hold of the other ruck and just wrestle for a tap. As they pointed out when one ruckman tries to hold the other ruck can't really have a fair jump at it which is why we need someone like Darcy to combat those. If Reidy actually used his strength he would be able to do it but he seems to excel as tapping it to the opposition.I understand the Darcy discussion after the game Jackson had on the weekend, however just a week before we would have lost against the Roos if Jackson was our solo ruckman, Xerri was massacring him in the ruck and we only starting winning clearances when we switched our rotation and played Darcy in Xerri and Jackson in Darling.
Honestly the 3-400k we are paying Darcy over a journeyman ruck is worth it if it wins us 3-4 games a year we lose without him.
Those wins are the difference between top 4 and top 8.
Edit: plus I want a bigger sample size of Jackson as a mid/ruck to see if he can be as impactful as he is as a mobile ruck.
I think this is the best thing, more games will go a long way to determine it from the outside. What Darcy, Jackson and the coach want at the end of the season from the inside will be the real thing.I think we need to see them play together as much as possible in the last 9 games, but that will mean we can't carry anyone else who isn't capable of running out 4 quarters. We'd be at too much of a loss defensively. I don't think we can afford to carry Fyfe to 250. I would give Fyfe one more full game this week to see of he's truly cooked or not but after that some hard decisions need to be made.
Saw this graphic on Twitter and I wondered PurpleReign95 where you got this info from?
Specifically the cells highlighting Sturt and Switta as restricted free agents at the end of next year?
I don’t think this is correct.
1. I can’t imagine either would be in our top 25% paid players which is what RFA’s are. That would mean they are both in the top 11 highest paid players at the club - very doubtful.
2. Switta was drafted in 2017 and will be 9 years at the club at the end of 2026. Therefore when OOC he is automatically a lifetime unrestricted free agent from here on, as I understand it, no matter what his salary is. Jacob Weitering and the Bont are two more high profile and high paid examples of guys in the same boat.
She's from Melbourne isn't she? hopefully she's one of those progressive types who thinks having children is murdering the planet and sticks to fur babies instead. Losing Luke Jackson just as he's entering his prime because of domestic drama would be a crippling blow for any future flag aspirations and would easily be one of the most evil thing the footy gods have ever inflicted on us. I get that you need 30-odd blokes to win a flag rah rah rah but he is just that special. He is the one guy that sets us apart from the rest.I think Taylor is intimating that LJ’s partner’s body clock might force the issue (she is 33 years old).
One thing that I haven't seen brought up in the Darcy/Jackson debate is how it affects JL's structure if Darcy leaves.
To me it seems that JL's preference, even before Jackson arrived, is to play two ruckmen in the side. For instance there were a number of occasions that we would play Meek and Darcy in the same side. Not to mention Lobb who was more than capable as a 2nd ruck.
So what happens if we trade Darcy out? My money would be on trying to find a ruck to replace him. Same courses, different horse.
are there limits on how much a first year can be offered $$ on their first extension?I wonder how much of the Kozzie free cash we now have was used to tempt Reid. Great outcome to get another vic kid signing on

Because his missus is 33?
So Taylor view is that if the missus wants kids ,she wants them back home in vic then young Luke must(or will) simply bend to his partners wishes?….I think Taylor is intimating that LJ’s partner’s body clock might force the issue (she is 33 years old).

interesting
I've got 4 kids with little to no support from either of our extended families and I'm a fifo worker as well.Family support for a new baby when your partner is a full time professional athlete is critical, Jackson will be mostly absent. Jackson's relationship with his own family isn't great - so it's on her family. Maybe the club can just move her mother over and help out.
But the reality is that, as I found myself, priorities have to shift drastically if plans are to work out post sporting career if they are going to happen at all.
I want them to have their forever happy future, including children if that's in their plan. The reality of that is that they need to get on with that and when they do they (she) will need bulk support. They'll be able to afford it, but it's an excuse that will be leveraged to get a bigger contract in Melbourne.

If you want it to work you make it work. The excuse doesn't fly with me at all.
Wow imagine having partner almost always absent(due to work) and trying to raise a family… I’ve only ever heard of that being a massive issue for pro sports couple on over mill a year…Family support for a new baby when your partner is a full time professional athlete is critical, Jackson will be mostly absent.
what argument even is this? if everyone else had the opportunity to be closer to and have support of a family network im sure theyd take up that shot?Absolutely nailed it m8
It’s beyond laughable when you read pro sport couple earning over 7 figures need to move back (insert x place) due to “support”
When hundred thousands of everyday folk seem to manage and get on with it with AS little and tiny fraction of their wages
Trading Darcy is lunacy need that big body horses for courses and depth. What if Jacko gets injured. Brisbane only brought Clark Keating in for finals in mainly and he killed it every time.I think this is the best thing, more games will go a long way to determine it from the outside. What Darcy, Jackson and the coach want at the end of the season from the inside will be the real thing.
Everyone is contracted, a lot to play out, guessing the outcome is like picking the GF winner.
While the ruck market seems to be a sellers one, I wouldn’t go trading Darcy immediately unless our doctor is seriously worried long term or Jackson is in No.1 ruck Every game or leave mode. I have seen Darcy improve most games and he could be firing by the finals if it keeps up.
