Family fallout happened post contract signing fwiwThen don't commit by signing a contract.
Pretty easy.
Personally I’ve always found it a bit strange to be discussing specifics around players leaving/staying.I can't stress this enough.
WA is a big place and I'm sure he will be fine. These things have a way of sorting themselves out. Running away won't fix it.

Apologies for clogging up this thread , final comment.what argument even is this? if everyone else had the opportunity to be closer to and have support of a family network im sure theyd take up that shot?
I completely agree with this call but that wasn't the questionI can't stress this enough.

No i said if he moved away due to having kids then the excuse for support didn't flyI completely agree with this call but that wasn't the question
It was about family support with kids, you said that he shouldn't have signed the contract, he had not had the fallout when the contract was signed, it was the complete opposite, he moved to be closer, so your logic didn't apply.
Saw this graphic on Twitter and I wondered PurpleReign95 where you got this info from?
Specifically the cells highlighting Sturt and Switta as restricted free agents at the end of next year?
I don’t think this is correct.
1. I can’t imagine either would be in our top 25% paid players which is what RFA’s are. That would mean they are both in the top 11 highest paid players at the club - very doubtful.
2. Switta was drafted in 2017 and will be 9 years at the club at the end of 2026. Therefore when OOC he is automatically a lifetime unrestricted free agent from here on, as I understand it, no matter what his salary is. Jacob Weitering and the Bont are two more high profile and high paid examples of guys in the same boat.

Article on AFL app saying Essendon chasing Sean Darcy if they lose Sam Draper
Nick Martin? That's the side I was referring to previously.
Unless we have a player in mind there's no value, even if we have both their top ten picks for him, that doesn't first shoot ourselves in the foot to allow the trade.
But if they are throwing huge money at him they deserve to be gutted like they are buying Harley Reid
Martin would cost our first rounder on top of Darcy I reckonNick Martin?
We might have to wait till he can't play 100 games for anybody else either. Rules out Melbourne trades. If Jackson and co are having kids there is no way we trade him short of 100 games.
I hate all the talk about Darcy. He is a top 5 ruck when fit.
You mean like last time we played the saints…oh waitDarcy shows his importance in games like this week. If saints go the hard tag on serong and/or brayshaw having an extra midfielder like Jackson takes us to the next level. Having Darcy allows a unicorn to do unicorn things all over the ground not just as a ruck.
Jackson can ruck for 35%
On ball 30%
Forward 30%.
Darcy ruck 65%
I'm sorry but those stats and graphic is really misleading, if not disingenuous considering our set up now is different than in most of those games. When both Jackson and Darcy played, Jacko was our third tall fwd. And when Jacko rucked solo, Treacy was giving him the chop out which reduced his and the teams overall effectiveness. This year, sans Darcy, we've had Voss doing backup duty with Treacy focusing purely on being a fwd.
What those stats advocate isn't necessarily Darcy and Jackson as a pair, but a 1 ruck, 1 ruck/fwd and 2 tall fwds combo. This week is only the 4th time we're rolling with all five of Darcy/Jacko/Voss/Amiss/Treacy, so the jury is still out on whether this will prove effective going forward imo. It's likely JL and the rest of the coaches never accounted for Voss being as good as he is.
Look at the opposition and some context.Yeah I could just as easily say the 2025 W/L record which is:
Darcy/Jackson 2-2
Darcy 2-1
Jackson 5-2
But that would be the one that gets picked apart and labelled disingenuous because it doesn’t align with the majority opinion here.
I thought we had the ideal mix with Jackson/Treacy/Amiss/Voss and a 5-1 record this season when these four play minus Darcy would indicate that (the one loss being by 3 points, so nearly 6-0). I think even a fully fit and firing Darcy potentially disrupts that, let alone Darcy currently.
