Family fallout happened post contract signing fwiw

He moved over to be closer but it went **** up after that
I can't stress this enough.

WA is a big place and I'm sure he will be fine. These things have a way of sorting themselves out. Running away won't fix it.

Personally I’ve always found it a bit strange to be discussing specifics around players leaving/staying.

The vast majority of this board don’t know our players personally. There’s no way we can really speak to how to solve their problems because many problems are unique.

I hope Luke Jackson stays
I hope the club can help him with his problems

But I don’t know him so I can’t really say how bad the problems are or what the best course of action is.

what argument even is this? if everyone else had the opportunity to be closer to and have support of a family network im sure theyd take up that shot?
Apologies for clogging up this thread , final comment.

As with any discussion best to get the entire context yeah?- that said…

You’re actually right with the bolded .
They can “try”*

My original line of questioning was based around Taylor’s assumption that Luke and his misso be heading back to Victoria.
Which in turn was basically based around the reasons I’ve mentioned previously.
She just didn’t want to say as direct , for not wanting to paint Luke’s partner in a negative light.

As freo84 and myself have pointed out they were based on “want” and not need

Therefore Luke and his partner requesting back home due to the arrival of baby(an everyday occurrence in the real world) is not really freos problem because , again, as is stated he’s contracted , long term ,on good money and soon to be even more I have no doubt .

so freo will decide if luke Jackson gets traded.

Not his misso, not Luke, not anyone’s families .

End of

Petracca, Oliver, and Pickett all wanted out of Melbourne last year. Melbourne told all of them no, as is their right because they were all contracted and required. The latter ends up signing a 9 year deal and we haven’t heard much on the trade front about the former two since.

Jackson is contracted for another 5 years. That’s the only detail that matters in all of this. If we are a serious football club in the business of trying to win a flag, it’s not even a question that Jackson will be a Freo player in 2026 and beyond.

I completely agree with this call but that wasn't the question

It was about family support with kids, you said that he shouldn't have signed the contract, he had not had the fallout when the contract was signed, it was the complete opposite, he moved to be closer, so your logic didn't apply.

No i said if he moved away due to having kids then the excuse for support didn't fly

Then Someone else brought up the family crap And I still don't think it's a good enough excuse to break the contact.

My logic is if you sign a contract then you see it through.

Saw this graphic on Twitter and I wondered PurpleReign95 where you got this info from?

Specifically the cells highlighting Sturt and Switta as restricted free agents at the end of next year?
I don’t think this is correct.

1. I can’t imagine either would be in our top 25% paid players which is what RFA’s are. That would mean they are both in the top 11 highest paid players at the club - very doubtful.
2. Switta was drafted in 2017 and will be 9 years at the club at the end of 2026. Therefore when OOC he is automatically a lifetime unrestricted free agent from here on, as I understand it, no matter what his salary is. Jacob Weitering and the Bont are two more high profile and high paid examples of guys in the same boat.

I just got it from Footywire :)

That's the side I was referring to previously.

Unless we have a player in mind there's no value, even if we have both their top ten picks for him, that doesn't first shoot ourselves in the foot to allow the trade.

But if they are throwing huge money at him they deserve to be gutted like they are buying Harley Reid

Nick Martin?

Darcy shows his importance in games like this week. If saints go the hard tag on serong and/or brayshaw having an extra midfielder like Jackson takes us to the next level. Having Darcy allows a unicorn to do unicorn things all over the ground not just as a ruck.

Jackson can ruck for 35%
On ball 30%
Forward 30%.
Darcy ruck 65%

You mean like last time we played the saints…oh wait

I'm sorry but those stats and graphic is really misleading, if not disingenuous considering our set up now is different than in most of those games. When both Jackson and Darcy played, Jacko was our third tall fwd. And when Jacko rucked solo, Treacy was giving him the chop out which reduced his and the teams overall effectiveness. This year, sans Darcy, we've had Voss doing backup duty with Treacy focusing purely on being a fwd.

What those stats advocate isn't necessarily Darcy and Jackson as a pair, but a 1 ruck, 1 ruck/fwd and 2 tall fwds combo. This week is only the 4th time we're rolling with all five of Darcy/Jacko/Voss/Amiss/Treacy, so the jury is still out on whether this will prove effective going forward imo. It's likely JL and the rest of the coaches never accounted for Voss being as good as he is.

Yeah I could just as easily say the 2025 W/L record which is:

Darcy/Jackson 2-2

Darcy 2-1

Jackson 5-2

But that would be the one that gets picked apart and labelled disingenuous because it doesn’t align with the majority opinion here.

I thought we had the ideal mix with Jackson/Treacy/Amiss/Voss and a 5-1 record this season when these four play minus Darcy would indicate that (the one loss being by 3 points, so nearly 6-0). I think even a fully fit and firing Darcy potentially disrupts that, let alone Darcy currently.

Look at the opposition and some context.

Darcy went down with injury in the Collingwood game and Jackson rucked majority of the game.

Let’s look at the 5-1 record with Jackson and Voss.
Essendon win - home game expected win
Sydney loss - home game expected win
West Coast - expected win
Footscray win - home game expected win
Giants win - away game expected loss
Port win - home game expected win

5-1 which was expected.
