To that I give you the same answer others are giving me regarding Amiss, he's young, he's only going to get better, etc, etc.... have we not seen, again, this season what happens when Jackson is matched up against the big man rucks?
In 5 years time it’ll be all Jackson’s and DeKoning’s and not a a Darcy on a list anywhere*It's the most controlled part of the game, the only real one on one in the game and he is up against big guys who have beaten leaping smaller guys for years using the same tactic - line up right along the line of the bounce and immediately seek body contact. They all do it. Nobody has figured out how to beat that except by using another big guy. Even Nic Nat with his leap was bigger than Jackson.
He can get stronger, he can bulk right up so he can stand and push them away, but he will lose his movement from that. Sandilands at 211cm was 125kg and his shoulders start higher than a guy just under 2m tall. He can lean his weight into his opponent. Jackson has to push against that sort of advantage, and push at an incline.
Jackson can beat them when another big guy holds them down and he leaps up third man to win it himself, but we still need the big guy.
The huge dudes don't get any smaller as the game goes on, they will get less mobile but given they can directly add 36+ points a game out of the centre bounce just grappling and tapping it they don't need the impact around the ground.
No amount of Jackson marks or even goals himself will make up for a five goal headstart given away by losing the bounce so hard.
Grundy also gave Darcy a bath too btw. He had a day out against both ruckmen. The bigger issue is our midfielders were powerless to stop Sydney. Not much would’ve helped us against Sydney when Grundy was doing whatever he wanted in the ruck against Jackson.
We’re not better off trading Darcy until Jackson has proved he can do it against the big boys. We lose two games so far this year if there’s no Darcy already.

The last time we played Hawthorn, in 2024, Meek had 51 hit-outs against Jackson. Meek is good, not great. This was not fine against Meek.To that I give you the same answer others are giving me regarding Amiss, he's young, he's only going to get better, etc, etc.
People are talking about literally 4 ruckmen out of 18 - Gawn (whose old), Grundy (also old), Witts (old) and Xerri. Jacko is fine vs everyone else and will likely be the number 1 ruck in the comp inside 2 years.
Nah Taylor is right. I've been hearing that the big dinosaurs are dead since Stephen Michael was running rings around them. But they're still here because in the trenches you win big games of attrition if you have one.
Hitouts are the most overrated stat in footy. Sandilands won the hitout count almost every single game he ever played, and we got absolutely dominated by other teams midfields at times. The last time we played Hawthorn, in 2024, Meek had 51 hit-outs against Jackson. Notably: all those big-bodied tap rucks you mentioned—and most rucks in the game—cannot do half the stuff Jackson can do. The bobbing and weaving, the highly aerobic marking. The way Jackson could get better against them is not a natural progression of his skills as a footballer (which will no doubt happen) but by packing on resilient, heavy muscle, and thereby sacrificing his agility and jumping. Could we have Dogga do that? Well, sure. But why would you want to?

A ruckman is only a sum of it's parts, and what Jackson offers around the ball more than makes up for any height/weight difference he gives up. It's up to our midfielders to do their job better if an opposing ruckman get's on top in the hitout battle.
Brisbane won a GF with Darcy Fort as their ruckman last year, he's not really a superstar is he?
Another 2m freak type ruck tipped to go at pick 1 this year , that Ethan Reid kid was 5 2 drafts agoNah Taylor is right. God that one liner about Fort shits me. It's so disingenuous. It completely ignores two facts, first that Fort is not a trash ruck, second that McInerny dominated many games for Brisbane on the way to the grand final. They don't make the grand final without him, so this factoid about Fort is complete rubbish.Hitouts are the most overrated stat in footy. Im not sure they can spare the brain cells as it is. Lose any more and they will become WC fansAnyone who’s saying trade amiss, find the nearest wall and headbutt it for me
It's horses for courses and this week is a two horse course just going off last year. The last time we played Hawthorn, in 2024, Meek had 51 hit-outs against Jackson. Meek is good, not great. This was not fine against Meek.

I have no issue them going the two rucks this week - but all 3 key forwards can’t also play. It's horses for courses and this week is a two horse course just going off last year.
Wait, what happened? I read a cheeky rumour on the pies board earlier, but they didn't elaborate muchYeah but they’re not doing it to the point that they’re missing multiple games and forcing their partner to move their family back home because it’s gotten so out of control
Think if Jackson gets bulky and slow he'll lose what makes him special no?And you don’t think Jackson is able to work this out in the off season?
I should have said - trade Darcy for something worth while. Other wise not.
But I would rather the extra mid running around than Darcy most weeks. Can’t tell me we wouldn’t be better off v Sydney if JOM started over Darcy and we had a runner like Sharp to come on as sub

They are playing, Switta is in though and Ras out so I assume Jackson is going to be playing more mid time too as the big bodied mid we lack.I have no issue them going the two rucks this week - but all 3 key forwards can’t also play.
Story goes that his drug use/partying has gotten completely out of hand to the point that his partner has up and left him and taken their kids back to Perth.Wait, what happened? I read a cheeky rumour on the pies board earlier, but they didn't elaborate much
Ahh ok, thank you for that.Story goes that his drug use/partying has gotten completely out of hand to the point that his partner has up and left him and taken their kids back to Perth.
Also a bit about him signing the contract against her wishes? Dk
Even with Switta coming in, we feel too tall and slow. They are playing, Switta is in though and Ras out so I assume Jackson is going to be playing more mid time too as the big bodied mid we lack.
I mean "good forwards" right now seems a massive stretchEven with Switta coming in, we feel too tall and slow.
It looks from the outside that if they want to play Darcy it needs to be Voss that goes out. But they don’t want to do that. Could it be we have finally got to a point where we have too many good tall forwards.
Maybe throw a “potentially” in front of of that goodI mean "good forwards" right now seems a massive stretch
