Trade him for Sturt.

Was for ever and a day hoped by all on here he would end up as our version of fritsch so why not just turn him into the guy himself and save the wishful thinking.
If there's any truth about Cam Mackenzie I would be prioritising him over Fritsch. Kid is an absolute gun.

Haha was tongue in cheek with regards to fritsch.

Yeah I think McKenzie could definitely be a gun but we’re no hope

Hill, mcvee,ah chee(near no hope) are the main ones with guys like rosas and Hansen jr as low risk high reward types are the ones I hope the clubs looking at

Really? He seems OK, but I've never thought that highly of him to call him a gun. He is a long way from that. His stats are remarkably similar to Erasmus this year (similar age and height as well), and that's with Erasmus playing less game time and with less experience under his belt.

There might be an upgrade in speed/skill on Ras, but MacKenzie would still be on the fringe for Freo. At full strength, I wouldn't have him in our B22 currently. I'd put him just behind Johnson and NOD (as per Erasmus). He'd be great to have as depth with the prospect of developing into a B22 player in the future, but if that's where he stands at Freo then it would not be an attractive proposition from his perspective.

They are similar age but Mackenzie has had one less year in the system, thats big for development. We need quality midfield depth & I think Erasmus is struggling to provide that, but it’s going to be tough to get a young VIC kid if other VIC teams are keen.

Playing senior football is the most important thing for development and MacKenzie has been exposed to more than twice as much senior playing time. Erasmus has played 17 full games (at low TOG). Compared with Mackenzie on 38 full games (at a bit higher TOG). Both have 4 games they started and were subbed off.

MacKenzie is in the same situation at Hawthorn as Erasmus is at Freo ... right on the cusp, sometimes dropped, sometimes subbed out. While the most damaging midfielder is missing for both sides. If that's making him disgruntled, there's no chance he'd want to come to Freo when he'd be in the same position. He might even be worse off, as Hawthorn's midfield is their weakness.

Freo haven't traded a Victorian in from a Victorian club since Tarrant in 2006. As far as I can tell we have never traded in a Victorian player under the age of 24 even back in the early years.

The reason seems obvious enough to me in that why would any out of contract Victorian want to move away from home when there is bound to be at least 1 or 2 of the local clubs prepared to offer the same terms as a minimum.

Every other state you are only competing with 1 other club in the town for an offer.

The Hill situation is an extremely interesting one from a football perspective and very difficult to talk about properly and fairly.

Whatever the reason for the partner and kids moving to WA, you would have to be pretty damn careful trading for a dude who's heart clearly belongs in Vic.

Feels like it would be very similar to the ANB trade as a no fuss, get it done type thing if it happened but its a difficult one for both WA clubs to navigate.

It’s a tough one to comment on without being disrespectful to all parties but I’m guessing there’s been an ultimatum somewhere along the line. If there has been it appears he’s chosen football by signing the long term contact at Collingwood but that is obviously pure speculation.

Whatever’s going on, if he ended up back in the West I don’t think he plays his best footy which he needs to do to impact. In theory it sounds like a positive addition but I don’t think his heart would be in it.

How is it clear it his heart belongs in Victoria? I'm confused. He's only lived there like 2.5 years of his life.

Between the Chad & Kozzie was there any real interest from freo?
And he was never going to WC.

And when the biggest club in the land that is genuinely contending for flags offers you a long term deal who’s going to say no?

I’d like to think that moving back to WA and playing for a up & coming Freo and being around family wouldn’t be that flattening.
Or at least I hope…

Regardless of the truth of the matter, If he asked for a trade its not because he actually wants to be here. There is every chance he'd do a Lobb / Hill etc etc

He wasn't even OOC when he signed so would've been down the pecking order for us for sure.

He didn't have to sign early though

Will cost us a first too, so not sure if its worth it tbh

Guess it depends where our first lands
Without a shadow of a doubt it would be worth it
Would we be where we are now without Jackson and Bolton ?
No

And that’s what trading first rounders gets you when you are at the pointy end instead of trying to find a needle in a haystack in the draft

I don't rate Hill anywhere near Jackson and Bolton

He is more a Lachie Schultz level IMO, pressures less than Schultz though (I'm talking Freo Schultz, not Pies Schultz)

Hang on I just want to clarify that we are talking about Norm Smith Medalist Bobby Hill who averages around 2.5 goals per game the last few years ?

We are talking about Bobby Hill who played his best game ever on GF day but otherwise is a slightly above average small forward who averages half of what you say he averages

last 3 years
1.5 goals
1.3 goals
1.4 goals

33 is his max in a season (equal to Shoota however Bobby played 24 games due to finals, Shoota averages alot more tackles)

Don't get caught up in the Norm, it was a great game but thats not week in week out with Bobby
