Warner would fill a need of a consistent goal kicking midfielder which we are sorely in need of. I wouldn't mind seeing him kicking goals on the run from outside 50 every couple of weeks at Optus.

Warner replacing AB if worst case scenario happens appears almost workable if we get
decent compo for brayshaw…
We wouldn't.

If Andy left, it is for money and hence he goes as a FA. That means we get the pick after our first. Even the most pessimistic of us would have that as pick 7/8 before bids/compo etc.

He'll stay though.

Perhaps he will be keen to stay for 2028 to become only the second 4x premiership captain ever...
Sorry, this included partly wrong information. I meant 4x consecutive premiership captain. There obviously are more then 1 4x premiership captains in AFL history...

For good or bad, Banners is Freo for life, no chance we push him out the door to trade in Warner or Kossy. And there is also the small matter that he would be worth very little at the trade table. We had better just get used to him being around for a while longer.

I like Switta, but there's a reason his name has come up multiple times.
We have others to cover, and he'd likely have some value too, although not a R1 pick.

He bought a house in Melbourne last year.

He bought a house in Melbourne last year.

He’s 29 this year so tbh he’s probably got 3-4 years left.

I’ve got mates who’ve moved over east and bought places in Perth because they intend to move back here eventually. He might move back but he doesn’t really have that long left in his career if he waits until retirement.

Tbh I think Switta’s forward pressure would be very difficult for us to replace mainly because we simply don’t have a player capable of doing what he does on our list currently - so we’re either trading or drafting and waiting 3-4+ years for development.

Couple years of development into Coops and that's his role tbh

He pressures well at WAFL level, just needs to build muscle

Or we can dream of Kozzy

I think Josh Treacy would make a solid captain, in all aspects of that description.

I like Serong for the team celebrating he does on the field, he gets to his team mates for a high five or consolation more than anyone else.

I like Brayshaw because his work rate is out in front of everyone else on the field.

I like Pearce because he is the best tall in our side.

I have said this before. In fact I’d like him to be appointed tomorrow.

So people are off Warner now? Jeez the bloke would be an awesome addition to our side and would cost less in draft capital to bring across than Kozzie.
I've been in reading he has bought a house in Applecross.

I’d say Andy is looking to leverage as much money as he can out of freo. This is a high stakes poker game between the two parties.

On the freo side, they want to sign Andy for as long as possible (probably 6 years) for as low $$ as possible.
Andy will use the market to determine his true value (which could be around $1.5m if reports are to be believed about this St Kilda war chest of cash).
I don’t doubt Andy wants to stay at freo but he’s not a charity either. He will rightly want to be Paid what he’s worth or close to it.
Serong is likely to become of the AFLs highest paid players in 2 years time when he comes out of contract next. That’s another factor both parties will have their eye on. At least Young is off the table on a long term deal, would be interesting to know what his salary is. I suspect it’s slightly less than what both Andy and Caleb would be worth.

There’s no question the saints are going to force us to pay more to keep Andy ultimately. Thats exactly how the AFL system is meant to work by the way. We shouldn’t complain about it.

Wanting to be paid the most and leveraging every cent out of Freo is the reason Pavlich is not a Premiership player.

Give us the details. You seem to have some hot gossip there needing to come into the light of day.

Yeah I remember reading in "Purple Heart" that he'd requested a trade to (I think it was ) Port before 2006.

Stayed for the money here I think, or Port weren't going to pay as much or something like that.

I could be way off in my recollection here, been a few years since I read it, I just remember it breaking my heart when I read it.

As much as I will always love the great man, that's what's gunna separate him from Caleb and (hopefully!) AB, they were willing to stay the course and stick with the club through thick and thin for the ultimate success.

Of course, this is how I'm seeing it now, 20 years time I could be reading Andy or Caleb's autobiographies and find out one of them requested a trade to the Bulldogs or St Kilda or the Bombers.

Hope not.

Interesting taking a look at draftguru assesment of 2006

Pavlich the only player with an A rating.

Must have been some questionable list management. I assume the likes of Carr, Tarrant, Bell, Farmer and Headland were here for the love of the club and playing cheap???

Would Pavlich have had a look at the filthy lucre we paid Croad to join and thought he also may be worth something?

One could just as easily argue that paying Brayshaw overs (ie matching his best FA offers) while the rest of the team are taking significant unders would be the culture killer?

FWIW I’m pretty sure he’s staying, just player agents and list managers doing their jobs at this point

I hope you are correct

The wait is killing me

Going to be interesting for WestCoast this year.

Warner possible right when Rodriguez and Dyson are looking tasty.
3 and 14 currently plus 2026 and 2027…

I still think we have a shot at Warner unless they give 3 and 2026 first and Warner picks them

No way we're getting Chad for less than Kozzie despite Kozzie being contracted.

Depending on where our picks fall and I'm hoping late our first and future first will get Pickett along with around 700k p/a and probably a pick coming back.

Two picks between 15-20 won't be enough for Chad and I think the most the club can afford is around a million where as the Eagles only have about 7 good players and 3 of them are in their 30's so they can offer $1.6-$1.8m front ended.

Chad won't be in purple IMO, half a million + per season differential between offers on a long term deal is big dollars. The Eagles may even offer the captaincy.

I don't have the stats but how many goals did he kick in the first half of the season when the Swans were flying compared to the back half of the season when they were mediocre? Easy to role the dice and push forward from the contest in a team that wins every week.

NOD will play more inside this year and Youngy loves a goal, they're our 2 goal kicking mids this year and beyond.

And I would like to know how many of those goals came at the short SCG.

I'm not saying he's not a terrific player btw

Who did we miss out on that we could have recruited with a little bit more cap space?

21 from his first 12 games.
14 from his last 13.

37 goals from 42 SCG games.
41 goals from 43 other games.

Not a front runner and not an SCG specialist!
