List Mgmt. 2025 List Management

Freo was one of the few clubs that didn’t attend the trade 'speed date' discussions on Tuesday, so I don't mind the move to make it known publicly that our first rounder is available for a rebuilding club. It will not only get the attention of list managers, but also players that might want to come to or return to WA. Worst case is we let Walls draft another talented youngster.

Anyways, re-signing Erasmus is enough to make this trade period a win for me.
I really didn't get Speed dating format.

Clubs would be in discussion for a few months, and any surprises come after each team is out of the finals or in trade week.

Are we purposely keeping our salary cap open to lure someone big home in the future? I would have thought that our attitude would be 'win now'. Warner's contract ends in 27, Kozzie extended to 34, I don't think there is anyone else?

If we have cap space we front load contracts and that helps keep ou players when the new Tasmanian teams enters the league.

I think all these long term contracts will prove to be solid investments.

Feels like a lifetime ago the talk of $1million was ludicrous.

Darcy even now would possibly get more than $1million. Jackson 100% would get more than what he’s on.

If we had the cash for Kosi, then we definitely have some cash.

No one has even been rumoured to come to us.

Did realise GWS were one of the other clubs that didn't attend. They were the only other club with exit meetings this week.

I'd imagine Walls would've sat in every single exit meeting.

There would be plenty of new things to discuss following the exit meetings of the bottom eight clubs. Players would be telling clubs they want out, and conversely clubs would be telling players to look elsewhere. Freo were still doing their exit meetings when these early trade discussions took place.

I would have thought that player agents would be talking to clubs, and there is a thing called mobile phones.

Teams still in finals attended. Think it'd be more unavailability due to exit meetings happening at a similar time then anything that has come out since seasons ended for ten clubs.

Not sure there's been any surprise trade requests yet tbh. If there was they are no names. The media has talked about pretty much all players that have requested a trade so far.

As has been pointed out player managers will reach out to clubs and clubs will have one on one chats with other clubs separately.

Do you ever usually get surprise trade requests out of exit meetings though? They're almost always kept on the dl and no official "trade request" comes through a lot of the time.

Schultz was one of the most surprise trade requests and even that only came at the start of the trade period. I think most, if not all of the surprises happen during the trade period, or a month or two before.

Yeah I don't like what we reverted to (even though we got through).

Sharp needs to improve his kicking and defensive physicality, running and positioning is fine.
NOD needs to stay fit.
JOM will most likely come out for Johnson next season.

Worner had a good year and totally improved but I do not think he should be in our starting back 6, would be interesting if he can compete on the wing, he has the running power and is already better defensively than Sharp.
Banfield should go back to being the utility.

I actually thought Worner was picked up as a winger and subsequently converted to a HB?

I think Chappy could go to the wing also.

If we held off on the contract, until he improved his tackling then I would be a lot happier.

What motivation is there for him to work hard on the different things in his game now.

Are you happy with JOM's and Will Brodie's contracts?

I am just saying for fringe players it adds a bit too much risk, when 3 plus 1 year deals would be safer for the club.

If Freddy is a fringe player after playing basically every single game for three years I’d be surprised

No they aren't.
Unless they're like Geelong drafting 26 year olds, yes they are, unless you can prove otherwise.

I was careful not to say in between seasons given the 6 month gap.

If you have 3 18 year olds on draft day your squad is younger. Good luck disputing that mate.

Goals Kicked for freo 2022-2025 (goal assists in brackets):

1. Amiss - 113 (33)
2. Frederick - 107 (53)
3. Treacy - 105 (29)

And no one else is even close. Freddy goes at 1.3 a game, the other two at 1.6 a game. About what you expect from key vs small forwards.

He is also the only player on our list who has kicked 20+ goals in each of his last four seasons with us.

Just completely absurd that so many are so quick to want him out of the club when we literally have no one at all to replace his output.

Finding this whole we're getting younger debate a bit silly tbh. So far we've lost the following from our list:
  • Walters - 0 games this season
  • Narkle - 0 games in the starting 22 this year.
  • Fyfe - 1 game in the starting 22 this year
  • Aish - 1 game in the starting 22 this year
  • Reidy - 1 game this year
  • Brodie - 0 games in 2 and half years
  • Delean - 0 games ever
  • Jones - 0 games ever

As far as 2025 games go only really Fyfe has added anything. Outside of that it's two games in starting 22 combined and four as sub.

Everyone apart from Fyfe who made a meaningful contribution to 2025 will still be here in 2026 and will be a year older.

Freddy's deal would have been worked out well prior to him bed shitting this weekend off the back of what was overall a really positive 2025.

Sure he sucked this weekend but he still kicked 30 goals in what can be a pretty unrewarding role. A deal until 2029 is fine and not all that long in the current landscape, if we can turn Freddy into depth one day that is great but at this stage he's still a valuable top 23 guy.

That's exactly my point, this argument we're getting younger is as dumb as it gets. All that matters is the age of our playing 30, and that is certainly getting older next year. Exactly as you say, all the older guys leaving made almost zero contribution.

You said none of that in your original statement. Any team drafting a mature ager isn't necessarily getting younger. You made a blanket statement which wasn't true.

It's not that serious. The majority of teams draft all 18 year olds on draft so their team gets younger. Even the ones that draft a mature ager usually also take a couple younger guys to offset their impact on the age. Weird thing to nitpick over when the statement is true over 95% of the time.
