When Switta, Bolton and Reid are all on together with Freddy and the big 3 that is pretty potent. The 2nd Q against the dogs showed how well it can work.
I’m on who thinks we need gun wingers more than any other area.
The Langdon, Acres, Hill type who link up with the defenders and connect in the transition phase, smart footballers who can gut run all day are crucial.
Sharp was doing it well till he fell off a cliff. Would like to see Chapman tried in the role & bring Simpson, Walker back to defense.
Yeah not really talking about potency tho E with regards to those players you mentioned.

Dockeroo and myself original point was primarily based around defensive pressure from our small/medium fwds and just HOW critical it is come finals time
hence why I deliberately left Freddy’s name out.
He does neither pressure or tackle.
-And also btw he was basically a non entity again during that bulldogs game, just we won so his soft efforts got overlooked then

Swittas elite but even Reid’s biggest weakness is probably defensive pressure (he’s just so good at everything else tho I’m not phased with him)
Boltens decent enough.
Dudley’s just to small/unfit may not even make it .
After that we have basically ZERO options

It’s bleak

That’s why someone like kozzie was perfect - on top of amazing offensive ability his defensive efforts and pressure are also elite

Not disputing Rankine was wrong and I think he was well and truly punished for it.
However I thought Bailey Smiths behaviour at an open training session earlier this week toward a female photographer who was doing absolutely nothing wrong was disgraceful and he’s basically gotten off Scott-free (pardon the pun). He was a nasty prick and a misogynist in that incident for no apparent reason whatsoever.

Not a word about it in the media from some of the same people who absolutely castigated Rankine.

It’s just one example of the disproportionate reaction to these kind of unsavoury incidents in the AFL media.
I agree. Definitely double standards.

Butler was lack of opportunity though. I imagine now that he’s playing in a prelim and potentially a gf then he’d be likely to re sign.
He was actually coming back from a really bad injury this season as well and it depends what they are offering someone like him when they are throwing money at elite players everywhere.

You’d think with Breust retiring, Butler had a spot in the Hawks forward line. Just about $$$ now that he’s started looking around
True
Just needs to play his cards right and re-sign with a few hundred k extra in his pocket each year

Breust only played 8 games this year and 5 of those started as the sub, so he doesn't open up that many opportunities. Hawks usually played Gunston, Chol, Dear/Lewis as the talls and then Watson, Ginnivan, Moore, and MacDonald as the smalls, so it'll still be tough for Butler to get a game.

Expect it’ll go the same way as Neil Erasmus tbh.

There’s clearly a few ahead of him but he’s getting games now and is doing pretty good.

Expect that if the AFL makes the change to 23 players (rather than 22 and a sub) the natural transition for a lot of clubs will be to give their forwards that can play midfield more midfield minutes and play the extra small forward.

I know there’s been a lot of talk around clubs playing an extra ruck but I can only really see clubs who are basically running giving up 5-10cm with their second ruck option. Don’t think Hawthorn will be in a rush to play Ned Reeves when Meek is rucking 85-90% of games anyway. In most cases clubs will still be selecting similar types as the 23rd man - there just won’t be the option or picking someone like Fyfe or an underdone player returning from injury in that position.

Beau McCreery would be ideal. Tough and hard, with good disposal and a hard runner
Seems very close to his mum and family. Can’t see him leaving Melbourne.

Haven’t heard too much about Butler except WC have enquired, which is fair enough and so should we. Hawks busy with finals and he is right in thick of it and not going out of the team now. Reckon he will re-sign based on recency bias.

Read somewhere in finals, 20% is in the air, and 80% is ground ball.
We have a deficiency in ground ball, and keeping the ball in our forward line.
Switta is our best pressure act player, but he only plays 2 out of 3 games (injured).
Look at hawks version of Wizard, he is electric with ball, but he's also a pressure forward when he doesn't get the ball, and he's a midget.
If Jackson comes on as our next Young, and Erasmus keeps improving, I would argue Freo's biggest need is one or two pressure forwards that kick goals (Shultz)

I'd love McCreery but unfortunately I can't see us being able to lure him away from Collingwood.
