I do wonder why Hardwick felt the need to upgrade him.

I don't think that happens if he is that good. It either means he is poor defensively or while he gets lots of the ball, his skills aren't as good as we think.

He’s just extremely stiff that Gold Coast brought in Rioli and Noble I reckon and it’s very hard to get back into that midfield. He definitely has nice skills but probably doesn’t take as many risks as the elite half backs

Meh. Petracca is massively over rated. His kicking is shit for a start.

Who is the best player from outside the state to come to a WA or SA club? Jack fricking Redden? You could count Tarrant and Croad but they were basically traded against their will and left as soon as possible.

I consider Bolton the poster child for "how good does everything else need to be if you cant kick" so Trac's is better IMO.

I'd be happy for any of those big Vic names - Cripps, Walsh, Trac, Merrett - just because I see it like Brisbane getting Neale in that it lays the ground work for others to consider it. None of it is going to happen though

Petracca will be 30 before the first ball is bowled in the Sydney Test. Yes, he is contracted until the end of his career in 2029, four years, but his best is behind him.

If Melbourne are selling players then I'd hope they are trying to buy some too, someone like Harry McKay

Keep thinking of him as a midfielder but he is absolutely playing HBF and is very impressive.

Wow just forgetting the goats James Aish and Danyle Pearce who played 100+ games for us

Petracca and Merrett talk is fanciful sadly.
It’s clubs like the Gold Coast that are stacked with first round talent that can’t all get a game we should be honing in on.
Players in their early 20s with talent that can’t get a consistent game.
The Suns have 4 more players coming in this year in the top 25 of the ND.
We should be able to pry a disgruntled player out of there on the cheap that’s still hasn’t broken out and is getting impatient for game time.
The likes of Jake Rogers. Alex Davies.
Then there is GWS. A glut of small forward that can’t all get a game. Granted the Darcy Jones ACL takes one of them away but there is about 6 small forwards on that list that are probably B22 for us within a year or two.

Then there’s fringe players from other clubs that might want a change of scenery.
Obviously you have the elite WA talent like Warner/pickett/etc when they are available.

I don't think we need more guns on high salary. We have enough. Bottom 6 loses you finals as much as the top 6 wins them. I feel 2 x $600k players might do more for our chances than a 1 x $1.2 million player. Unless that was Pickett, as he is young and perfect for our list.

Guys like Merrett and Petracca will be 30+ and could decline rapidly with the extra travel burden. Good chance they hate coming to Perth once a year and think "why the hell would I do that every second week if I don't have to?". Sydney and Brisbane travel loads are a piece of cake in comparison.

A top-shelf small forward aside, a Zorko like ball-user off HB would be our priority and Merrett could be it.

McVee and Ah Chee makes a lot more sense than either of the them.

Why aren't we chasing Ah Chee. I thought he was good on the weekend, works hard both way. Gets back to support the defence and provides an option going forward.

Apparently, Crows have an ex Brisbane coach, and he said he was available if you offered a bit of cash.

I don't know this for certain but i think he grew up in QLD so i guess thats a factor as well.

He did but he was a superstar. Wasn't quite the same once he did his knee but he kicked 129 goals in his 2nd season for Adelaide so was a jet. I was shocked when we got him and still are. Still is our 2nd leading goal scorer in a season on 71, behind Pav's 72 in 2007. 588 goals in only 10 seasons.
