A top-shelf small forward aside, a Zorko like ball-user off HB would be our priority and Merrett could be it.

With the coin we had for Koz and Chad, and all the crap that is going down in Melbourne, maybe we could turn his head. Surely we are asking the question?
Absolutely. Actually think Merrett would be pretty decent in that Zorko role tbh.

Let's be honest if you told me three years ago Zorko would be playing the role he currently is as well as he has been I'd laugh at you. Merrett plays midfield role where it's harder to look like a good kick but still uses it pretty well. Exactly like Zorko a few years ago.

Didn’t he fall out with Adelaide?
Played his best footy over there anyway
He got dropped for a prelim & spat the chewy with Blight. That was the year after he missed the first premiership doing his knee in the prelim. So missed both flags, but you’d say that Blight was justified in dropping him as he wasn’t ready & the Crows ended up with 2 flags.

About the only way we were ever going to get him.

Hopefully Nick Diacos, McLuggage or Holmes gets dropped before the GF.

Toby Whan and Lucas Robinson both got attention on the AFL draft tracker today. Are we likely to draft one or both this year and what round? This also part of the reason our first rounder is on the table? Here's the first paragraphs of the write-up;

FREO ACADEMY MIDS STEP UP IN FINALS
THE DRAFT hopes of Fremantle Academy midfielder Toby Whan have continued to grow after an impressive finals performance, with the teenager's coach declaring there is still significant upside in the powerful left footer's game.

Whan, who is a member of the Dockers' Next Generation Academy, helped lead South Fremantle into the WAFL Colts Grand Final with a polished 27-disposal performance against East Fremantle.

It came as bottom-age Freo NGA prospect Lucas Robinson underlined his class with a game-high 35 disposals and 12 tackles

Whan this year we'll draft for sure, Robinson is next year's draft (should get him unless the AFL screws us over)

For Whan I think the question is more where he fits in in relation to our second rounder and third rounders. It'll likely impact some of the trades we do over the coming months (probably not Brodie/Reidy but possibly other pick swaps).

Until recently I was honestly thinking he'd be struggling to be in the range of these selections but would probably be snapped up before the end of the National Draft.

Wouldn't mind him going just before our second pick tbh. Our third rounders are more in the range mature agers start to get drafted most years and it'd be good to get one of the best ones.

Interesting, he looked a bigger lad in the clips I’ve seen. He’ll need to be pretty agile and have a few tricks at 184cm. Hopefully he’s a clever footballer and good decision maker.
Feel like sometimes those types can slip down the draft order lower than they ought to have been drafted at. I did like the look of his left boot I must say, in the highlights we have seen.

Hopefully that’s one of the very few similarities he has with Jaeger O’Meara
He's way worse than JOM was at 18. Injuries were what ruined JOM and he's been just an okay AFL footballer since. Gold Coast in that era have a lot to answer for with Bennell, Dixon and others.

And yes JOM's latest performance was worse than average but let's not have too much recency bias.

Mitch Cleary mentions just now on Agenda setters that Melbourne are “waiting for Judd McVee to make a call on his future this week with freo circling“
Always felt like he was re-signing late just so Melbourne could put positive spin on the appointment of their new coach.

Looks bad for Stephen King if the opposite happens. We'll never really know if the result would've been different if someone else was hired in that case.
