Only 3 main list spots with the 2 upgrades, was that including Brodie's main list spot that will go?

Maybe we can get upto ports 24 in the Brodie trade? Obviously multiple picks going away

I created a spreadsheet a few years ago to track this stuff. I've been just plugging in the numbers each year since.

I've got us as 32-5 atm but have not included rookie upgrades yet. That'd make us 34-4.

You'll notice both the senior list and rookie list have one too many compared to what Walls said so he's already removed Brodie and Reidy.

Think Sturt is the obvious one given his injury.

Don't think the club would delist it's only proper FS after one year but we'd probably get away with it for Carr too.

Reckon we delist one more now McVee is coming in. Everyone except Reidy is contracted so they'll be redrafted as a rookie.

Once upon a time Rayner, Brayshaw, Dow, LDU and Cerra were seen as fairly equal. Wonder how much of the difference in career trajectory can be attributed to Carlton? (Lot of busts from them in the draft, and at a certain point you question whether it's because the footy-world is just misjudging the potential of the draft picks or because Carlton can't develop talented teenagers into AFL-quality players.)

Because of what happened with Schultz, silly!!

Don’t you remember??… we relegated him back to the rookie list for a yr or so and it made him very upset
so he wanted to leave and DEMANDED a trade ……………………………..

Brodie and Pick 45 for Pick 43

Then we have Picks 30, 39 and 43 to get the McVee trade done.

If Pick 30 is somehow enough maybe we combine Picks 39 and 43 and move up further.

Unfortunately I don't think these picks really move the needle enough this year if you're trying to upgrade our first rounder.

Don't think we need the third pick as Whan we go past pick 40.

Is keeping a spot open for a train on actually worth it if we're going to put Sturt on the LTI anyway.

Reckon we use one live pick and redraft Sturt in the rookie draft as well as pre-list a SSP like we did for Sharp and Narkle previously.

Not sure why Sharp is being upgraded after two years on the list.

Keeping our options open for next year I reckon.

Think we commit to upgrading Voss end of 2026 as soon as he signs a new deal.

Upgrading two rookies next year could get rather tricky if we don't make many list changes and/or we trade in multiple players.

two possible factors

1 less list spot in a draft we don't rate (top up SSP instead, Jed Bews anyone? )

Less tight when it comes round to next year and 2x rookies would have needed upgrading (Sharp, Voss)

As a reminder, we have FIVE main list spots open. We will only use 3 and take an additional 2 rookies instead.

We won't have enough draft picks worth any points to fill all 5, unless we hold points paying picks for other teams.

McVee requested a trade to Freo two days ago.

Reckon this interview was recorded either Sunday or Monday before the McVee news broke.

If you listen to him he said with the GF this weekend. I think it was recorded Friday or sat morning. Either way you’re spot on. It was before McVee came out publicly and said he wanted a trade to Fremantle.

Also on that subject - he has nominated Fremantle and agreed to a contract offer. So any media rubbish (or even from Pyke himself) is posturing and there will be nothing to it. He will end up at Freo. We have had good dealings with Melbourne in the past so I can’t see any issues. Second round pick with some sort of sweetener.

No disagreement with anyone on this board that McVee will be at Freo next year.

Think the majority of this board think I'm overvaluing McVee. Feel like I've been having the same conversation every year on this board since I first came on BigFooty - only the name of the player changes.

Reasonably confident a pick in the 30s won't be enough and think we're getting him for unders long term unless we we pay a top 25 pick.
