Certainly think this comes into it if the opportunities to play are similar.I think SSP is substantially different enough to not overlook as just a difference by name. Clubs usually don't dog players if they make a promise like that, but you can't be putting your trust in "usually" if certainty if available. If btwn now and the SSP period Jai gets a bad injury (very unlikely but not impossible), do you think those promises are guaranteed?
These are freak occurrences that you can be 99.99% sure won't happen. But when he has multiple suitors, not being left in even temporary AFL purgatory will likely mean something in his decision.
100%.I have long ago stopped stressing too much over off-season moves.
The whole thing is a clown show with the AFL manipulating every lever they can the get their preferred outcomes.
They have rendered the draft almost pointless though NGAs , father sons and arbitrary free agency compo. Dont get me started on the fixture and wildly inconsistent umpiring and match reviews. You know - the usual stuff.
I still keep half an eye on it but its more a case of " wake me when its over".
Absolutely convinced that Freo will not win a flag until the powers-that-be decide its our turn.
Serong was picked one pick before our next selection. Mitchell 100% did it to have a shot at Caleb and we are going to sgin him to get Caleb to extend,Y'all need to chill on Jai. The Hawks would be re-signing him in a heartbeat if they were confident he was a gun player. Now you have bottom feeder clubs like North and Essendon chasing him. That doesn't exactly feel me with confidence.
Good Bews if you will.No Bews is good news…

They'd just work out Geelong's travel as if they flew south and circumnavigated the globe to get to the MCG.Every club should have a flight allowance based on KMs travelled. Wouldnt be hard to work out and should be added onto match payments automatically. We've actually had a few concessions lately, I'm not sure we'll be able to get that one over the line any time soon though

But maybe the Hawks do want to re-sign him. It's not their decision to make, as Serong is uncontracted with multiple clubs interested, and it is up to him where he wants to play. If he has been (or will be) delisted, then I will stand corrected.
On a side note , might be time to update the username ?I think we would keep Serong! Plenty to go before him, only Jai wants senior game time now.
If he could hold on I reckon his senior game time would increase in 2026 and 2027.
When Snuffaluphagus has finished his power point presentation trying to convince wallsyWhen the Simpkin to freo news going break ?
Hopefully never everWhen the Simpkin to freo news going break ?
I reckon 0% chance. Wouldn't be stressing over this in the slightest wayI can actually see Serong replacing Ryan in 2027 Ryan is regressing hard can tell his body is making him struggle. Think he’s the perfect player let him develop in peel in 26 and fill in the gaps when Ryan/pearce/cox get injured which is bound to happen. If we fail next year and don’t win a final or worse not make finals I could see Caleb leaving having his brother here helps stop that
I watched him up close dominate Freo as the BoG at the Indigenous All Stars game. He is a gun. Would have him all day long at Freo. Would be a huge get. When the Simpkin to freo news going break ?
Wonder if Carr and Port are still interested in Noddy. Doubt they are, but I wouldn't lose any sleep if he left

As also someone who wants him, my read is completely different. Both parties are keen for the break-up and any public reasoning is rubbish. Pick 11 is actually overs going off the North board, we'd get some good salary (hes overpaid) chucked in and a pick backYeah I like him too, but only watch a few North games. That said, as always, what’s the cost?
I’d give up 11 for him in a heart beat. Would it cost much more? Probably, unless North force him out, which seems unlikely as no names linked to them.
I’m not fussed if that takes time away from others. You’re either good enough for best 23 or not.
Gives wing option, although he seems to want to play more midfield. I also think he can play HF for stints.
I like him, but as captain and 4 years left on big money, I don’t think it’s a realistic shot.
Spitballing here… Our picks 11 and 29 for Simpkin and North’s pick 20 (on the basis they pay a portion of his salary) then on trade pick 20 for Mcvee and Melbourne’s third rounder. Use that third rounder to trade for Serong. We go to the draft with just our third and change which would hopefully get us the younger Curtin or a Pickett / Kickett forward. Would really lift our floor and add an extra quality inside / outside mid in Simpkin. It’s your bottom 6 players that often decide games. I like the idea of spending low to mid range capital to get mid range players (eg Mcvee) to push out the bottom 6 and lift our floor. Trading to lift your ceiling (I.e Petracca, Merret etc) is bloody expensive !!!I watched him up close dominate Freo as the BoG at the Indigenous All Stars game. He is a gun. Probably not far off to be honest as I read thinking you slightly pessimistic which generally is where all our trades end up.Spitballing here… Our picks 11 and 29 for Simpkin and North’s pick 20 (on the basis they pay a portion of his salary) then on trade pick 20 for Mcvee and Melbourne’s third rounder.
