Hey Farrand!

Cheers for the lift earlier today. Don’t worry about the taxi.

Sorry I distracted you when I said Logue was coming back to Freo!
Hey Cobbler!

That's all fine but did you really have to slap me and take my coffee? I was already shocked enough!

See you next Friday anyhow. Usual time.

Well, at the very least I wouldn’t have ****ed up this trade 🤷

Randomizer 1 Walls 💯

I like 12 and 33 for 19 and 23. I’d strongly consider that most years.
I look forward to some time in the future when we have two early second rounders and wish to trade up to a mid first rounder like this.

I’ll bet you all the whiskey in Ireland we won’t get a deal as good as the one you outline above.

Moving up 7 places in the first round of a draft costs you an arm and a leg in most circumstances. Unless you are trading with David Walls it appears 😳

The only reason I think Walls did this trade may be combination of 2 things
1) as obvious he doesnt rate this draft may be after pick 10 or so and he is confident he can pick a gem later which others didnt identify
2) we rate Mcvee higher and want to add to our good culture by giving him a feeling we value him very high and didnt want to hold up the trade until the last hour of the last day. We could have waited until Melbourne find something from Gold Coast for Petrecca like pick 15 or 16 instead of our current 20? But that trade may not happen as well.

Or the Other reason is he is very soft at the Trade

Bare with, I know people have a lot of other Freo trades to discuss and so dont want to discuss what weve done anymore BUT it will be interesting to see what all of WC, Essendon, Gold Coast, Carlton and Brisbane do with the picks they have.

There is going to be a lot of movement in those clubs picks. It should fairly paint a picture of whether my melts were justified or not.

Try not to get too disrupted in your quest for answers by outliers of clubs making horrid deals themselves, like GC trading #11 in the future for #27 at the draft (they took Sharp), or North trading a future first for #27 and F2.

Oh no, examples that suit my argument only obviously (but yeah, draft night outliers dont count).

Edit: Actually, the other side is those can suit my argument, I take it back. Those count as well.

Snuff - truth is, we often see deals become complicated, haggling etc. Then on draft night picks beyond 40 are moved around or not used it’s hilarious.

Walls has simply made his move well ahead of time.

I know, I know… it doesn’t mean you just give em away. I’ve been vocal too.

I just think we’re so locked into what we want to do that nothing else matters.

Yes, we could’ve and should’ve got low futures in.

Yes, we could’ve held out.

How many times have we also seen teams do this and the deal gets done for roughly what everyone predicted on day 1?

I’ve slowly accepted it, because I’ve put faith in that there’s 100% a second component.

I’ll bet my left nut we trade 19 with Brisbane for their future 1st.

But you realise we can’t trade 19 back to Brisbane yeah?

We cant do that trade, its against the rules (that often mean nothing and are changed to suit the AFL, but still) but I do appreciate the fact you can only accept the trade if there's a hidden handshake deal behind it haha.

Anyway, we press on, just trying to point out ways people can reasonably argue my rant was ridiculous n the coming days.

Obviously we will trade 20 to Essendon for 21 (no knives, we trade in the currency of good faith).

Then 21 to Brisbane for F1. It's not illegal.

I don't think the idea that the draft is bad so we gave away our later picks and that we would trade away our only decent pick, leaving us with two picks in the 40s, can exist at the same time.

If we pick Rodriguez with our first round pick and then wait on Whan it will all line up for me with McVee valued as an extra second round pick.

Why would we draft western Australian players when the draft is basically our only realistic access to the Victorian talent pool? If we started doing that we might aswell forget about ever accessing non WA talent. The WA talent pool has never been weaker to top it all off.

Thankfully the club doesn’t think like this.

Fred Rodriguez can go to any club not called west coast eagles in this draft.
We can draft a talented young Vic kid instead.
Then in 3 years time we can trade back in Fred (if he’s any good) and the net result will be more talent at freo if we can keep whatever vic kid we draft too.

The biggest competitive disadvantage freo have is a lack of access to the same talent that our eastern states rivals have.
I actually think other than academy kids - we should actively avoid drafting western Australians.
