If Rosa turns that down he will be the new Dildoro.

That for a 30 year old? Mental not to take it

I don't know about that.

Pick 9 (which should slide a few spots) in a draft most people think is terrible, plus a likely pick 20ish, plus some garbage. I really hope Essendon say no.

Keep in mind my viewpoint is biased by a deep seated hatred of Hawthorn.

They’re dog shit WITH Merret. He’s 30 years old.

They need to clean that joint out. Two extra firsts can be a lot of currency for pick trading into next year

I think it shows the contribution to scoring of the Lions midfield over ours.

When listing the Fremantle and Lions mids by average goals scored, Brisbane hold 7/10 of the top. Bolton at 2, Young at 3, Brayshaw at 9.

Sum of the averages of the top ten:

Brisbane 4.4 (0.63 per player)
Freo 2.3 (0.76 per player)

They overwhelm us with contributors, and our second best barely played.
Player ability or game strategy?

More of the latter I think.

I hope they say no for our own benefit but Essendon would be completely stupid not to take it.

Dunno if it's just because I don't support either club but if I'm Essendon you just have to trade Merrett, and if I was Carlton I'd trade Cripps once Curnow goes, while he has any sort of currency. Full rebuild is much better than hanging around in the middle. Picking up blokes like Florent and Hayward will just keep them in no man's land. In saying this I probably would have gone ballistic if someone suggested we trade Fyfe even when we were nowhere. Probably easier to look at with no emotion attached

Potentially also that Brisbane don't have particularly good talls outside of the back half. They have serviceable big forwards and rucks where as Freo have objectively better key forwards and rucks - so we try and bring them into the game more - hitting up the key forward over the short lateral kick to a hard running mid moving inside fifty.

We also potentially don't score as much from F50 stoppages, not without Young.

A good deal for Essendon is probably a bad deal for the Hawks. He could get injured and go down hill very quickly and they burn a lot of capital. I like to do my planning on if both those picks are the 2025 & 2026 versions of Murphy Reid.

I think it benefits us for the Hawks to be greedy and try to rush to the finish line but it is not without risk.

Mediocre? I'll accept him.

I am clearly in the minority, but I still don't think it is that great a deal when a bitter rival has come hard for your contracted skipper who Hawthorn will be banking on playing another 100 games for them.

The Pick 9 is a good starting point, but I hope Essendon demand something better than the other picks and Hustwaite. Then Hawthorn have a dummy spit and walk away.

If you're Essendon you need Cam Mckenzie and/or Ward as opposed to Hustwaite in that deal for it to be even be considered. Hustwaite is a VFL discard of close to zero value. You need some cornerstones of your midfield of the future for your reigning 6 time best and fairest winner.

You're unlikely to get that for pick 9, a very poor future first and very poor future second - it's not going to get that done.

Yeah but he's 30...

If Merrett and Barrass were the missing pieces for the Hawks it makes sense that they'll have traded three first round picks, two second round picks, a third round pick and a player for them.

They really are going to be all chips in.

Last year they had pick #35 and #64, don't think either played this season.
2023 they took Watson at #5, McCabe at #19 and hasn't played a game yet then Ryan and Dear (F/S) at #46 and #56. Dear looks good.
2025 could be starting at #43 this year

If the Hawks don't strike in this window they could be missing for a while and Mitchell could walk off into the sunset, leaving behind a team with nothing coming through.
