We finished in a very similar position to most of these teams with a much younger squad.

Realistically I think for most teams around our level people on here couldn't name players 28-30 on their list and if those players played for us they wouldn't shut up about how much of a hack they are. And tbh most of these players aren't too much worse than players 25-27.

Reckon we stack up pretty well tbh. Don't think we're quite there in both experience and tactics. Don't think our best 10 or so is as good as a lot of people think it is either.

I reckon Cox has one AA lock season in him. I'm talking genuine over east media heads considering him a lock.
I don't believe that he'll ever have more than one of those, or sit close to that for the rest of his career, but he certainly has one of those in him.
I just hope it's in a season we go deep into finals.
He’s bald now there’s nothing holding him back anymore

In the end Harvey signed an extension so its a moot point.

If not for his surname I doubt he would've been drafted let alone gotten this 1 year contract

Interesting recruit coming to Peel.

Interesting that he played at Myrtelford in tandem with the former Peel ruck, Riley Smith. If there's any Freo interest...I guess if he's any good there's the mid-season draft.

It would be a risk to wait until the mid-season and not have a back up ruck on our list if Jackson and Darcy get injured at the same time, which kind of happened last season. The Melbourne game it was costly where Jackson missed the 2nd of 3 games and Darcy was only one game back from injury, with Voss also suspended.

If Riddle has a big pre-season maybe we take the risk.

Mason Cox has stated that he wants to keep playing for another club.
I wouldn't go near him tbh at this stage of his career.

But i will say this its a great story nonetheless what he has achieved in his career considering he never played the sport as a kid and moved from the US.

Like ill happily mock his glasses and shit like that.

But i think his story overall is a great one and he won a premiership.

I get the sense one day there might even be a netflix doco on it tbh.

Need some midfield depth.
Will Philips is a cheap option. Ted Clohesy from Geelong looks like a solid option.

Just feel that Brodie leaving, Fyfe retiring with JOM’s last year in 2026 there isn’t enough depth at that level
Is Chapman someone we can move in the middle there with more depth at Halfback.

If Walker is fit your going to have Clark, McVee, Walker.

Chapman is a big body he surely by now have a big enough tank to handle it.

I don't thinks it should be ruled out as a option.

Partif as a train on over summer makes a lot of sense to me, already in WA

WC could have quite an impressive rookie list with those four bonus spots: Will Phillips, Hobbs, Mason Cox, Tom Mitchell. Would all make their squad better for two years and then move on.

Plodders and has-beens? Yeah that tracks with West Coasts list management

If we had four AFL funded extra spots I'd have a serious look at all of them too. Peel flag in 2026, maybe opportunity opens in the AFL side for one of the younger ones and they thrive in a better suited role, in a better side, than they had at North and Essendon. Then who knows.

More than likely all four never contribute at AFL level again, but they'll dominate at the WAFL level

I’d consider Clohessy but I read somewhere he has another club lined up.

As for Hobbs, Phillips etc. they both haven’t shown progress and are not quick nor efficient by foot. Even though Hobbs has played more games than Erasmus and Johnson from the same draft he has not improved and gone backwards. I think they will both get an opportunity via rookie draft or SSP. West Coast were reportedly interested in Phillips.

We were interested in Milan Murdoch who to be honest even be it at WAFL works harder off the ball, has tidier foot skills and covers the ground much quicker.

All we have lost is Brodie. We don’t need to replace him with a genuine list clogger.

I'd say we've lost Fyfe more than anyone. Depth wise it's also planning for JOM to go in twelve months.

Let's remember Johnson and Wagner didn't play in finals either.

More than happy with a draftee coming in tbh.

I'm curious if Hobbs could be developed into something else at a club that has actual...well, development capabilities. Or is he a case of Dev Robertson where he hit his ceiling early and the game has gone past him?

(I'm not curious enough to want it to be our club tho)

It's possible he is more like Erasmus than Robertson. Both are best position inside mids, both had to play other roles at AFL level behind more experienced players. If we had played Erasmus as a half forward and he was fairly unremarkable there, then moved to the Dogs and played inside mid we would feel silly - but maybe that's just how it is for fringe mids.

The problem is we have WAFL selection rules as a partnered club (West Coast as a standalone don't) + we have a much higher floor of our best 23. Filling the extra rookie spots with basically a bunch of Will Brodies makes some sense for West Coast, but for us at some point it'd get in the way of players we'd actually want to develop.

If we had those spots, I'd pick up maybe 1-2 of those types, but then use the rest of those spots on more speculative, higher ceiling punts (which is probably what we will do with the non-ruck SSPs anyways). Luamon Lual, Oskar Smartt, maybe a "talented player delisted for personal reasons" type (NOT Tarryn Thomas or Arie Schoenmaker to be clear). Probably more state or even local footy types.
