Well yay.
Thats the exact kind of useless bullshit stat regurge I love...more please!
Amount to nothing in the end.. Collingwood are bottom- made 2018, 2023 GFs sprinkled with prelims.

Fremantle since 2015? First in 2015. Didn’t make finals again until 2022. Played 3 finals total in that 10 years

Bit easier to target high value trades when you get Darcy Moore, the Daicos boys and whoever else essentially for free.
If anything it underlines how disadvantaged we are compared to bigger Eastern states based Clubs.

What will really be interesting is if the Eagles manage to go past us again. That will tell us we are definitely shit.

Find the draft and finding star players through it redundant if the gap between the top 5 is greater the the bottom 5.
The top clubs do a better job of propping up this gap by trades or getting mature agers. That just doesn’t work for Fremantle given no one wants to come to Perth. Geelong, Hawthorn are easy attractions. They could not have a first round pick in the top 10 for the next 5-10 years and probably still make top 4 in that time.

I’m not sure I believe this. We have recruited Jackson, Bolton & now McVee (different level). That’s two A graders off the back of being an up and coming team.

Once you are competitive or seen to be making big leaps then people want to go there. Good teams are always destination clubs and it doesn’t matter the club, once you are down for a few years then the offers dry up eg. WC & Richmond.

The same will happen to Collingwood and Geelong if they ever bottom out properly.

Freo never seem to bottom out completely enough, last time West Coast were shit, they were shit enough to get priority picks (which got them Luke Shuey)

That was due to the old rules. With the new rules they had to be worst team in the history of the AFL bad, I'm not jealous of that.

Or be the Gold Coast and just get handed assistance packages giving you 2 of the best young midfielders in the game

Given some of the difficulties faced by Freo regarding trading in decent players who are not from WA, then thank goodness we are doing well in the drafting stakes.
We do struggle and only seem to get non-Victorian role players like Aish and Dawson. Last stars were Croad and Tarrant and before that nobody.

Only thing to do is get back ex-WA players, and draft.

Walls is great at drafting, so we have some hope. We do need to up our game on third party parties and beat Wet Toast in getting the few and few WA players.

but they took a gamble on topping up for a premiership (that they got and then couldn't achieve the 2nd top up) and then fell off a cliff. we don't have the luxury to take risks like that both financially or as an organisation desperate to attract talent (not just players either). so how long does our premiership drought have to be before we are breaking different kinds of records for "worst team in history".

Idk I guess it just irks me that being uncompetitive for 5 years due to your own shit practices is deemed worthy of intervention but something like being a small minnow club with some of the unluckiest occurrences in history in a 60 year long drought means **** all. Same for being a club that was never afforded proper concessions for access to talent when trying to establish and then has remained perpetually unsuccessful for their whole existence because we are forever playing catch up

Just so it's clear, if Fremantle or Port Adelaide are ever rubbish for half a decade neither club will be getting support because both serve primarily to offer salary cap pressure on the other team in that state which is far wealthier and the AFL do not want WC or Adelaide to be able to attract footy state players to a footy state with side sponsorship deals.

You are pretty naive if you believe his is ever likely to happen. It doesn’t matter how shite Collingwood in particular are - they will alway be one of the most attractive sides in the AFL and are on a different stratosphere to us when it comes to recruiting talent.

We literally havent recruited an established best 22 player via trade from another club, that doesn’t originate from Western Australia, in nearly 20 years.

Sure,
The same thing was said about Carlton or Essendon back when they were flying. You probably said the same thing about WC 5 years ago. Cook the list and there are consequences, the Pies aren’t going to turn into North for recruiting but they will have to pay thru the nose if they fall apart for more than 2 seasons.

Also
Chris Tarrant - 18 years ago
Adam McPhee - 16 years ago
Hack Anyhony - 15 years ago (lol)
Zac Dawson - 14 years ago
Danyle Pearce - 13 years ago
Colin Sylvia - 12 years ago

Then we were shit, so it all dried up except for WA players returning home.

James Aish is a more recent player recruited. Also Dean Solomon.

Adam McPhee (PSD), Jack Anthony (PSD), Zac Dawson (PSD) and Mark Johnson (ND) were all drafted.

It really doesn't matter though if it's PSD unless we stole them from where they wanted to go. My point stands that we have got plenty, not zero, when we were good. It dries up completely when you are bad, especially in the last 10 years.

The only A graders besides Tarrant in the last 20 years were WA players though but that is largely true for all footy states. The A graders get to determine where they go as all clubs are interested. Why would a gun Vic player move to WA when they have 10 options at home, including one with a free farm containing buried treasure?

I agree 100%.
It’s the bottom 5 that clubs consistently turn over and improve.

They are the players that need to stand up in finals. Brisbane have this in spades. Geelong too.

Banfield half back is one of these moves. No way would a top 4 team consider that.

Brisbane played the majority of the year with the likes of Day/Fort/Gallop/Smith playing as a KPF, and they would be arguably worse at that position than Banfield is as a half back.
