But on the open market Reid is only worth a little bit more than Warner. No player is worth 4 x top 10 picks as you're suggesting.

Is this a trick? In 2016 David Mundy almost played twice as many games as Sandi and Fyfe combined and he didn't play the whole year either.

We always seem to offer names to the media for drafts that essentially throw off the scent of the player we want. We constantly allow the media to create a narrative of potential draftees/list needs for us that very rarely are what we publicly claim after the draft.

This year we have been linked HEAVILY to Berry because we apparently needed a small forward... somewhat a forward who plays like... gee wizz... Pickett.

I reckon Wallsy is playing snooker when everyone else is playing pool.

• trading for Bolton went down to the final day and took up all our chess pieces and we wanted to go to the 2024 ND with a first round pick in tact. We still have 2025 ND and 2026 ND first round picks available.

Easiest answer is because we couldn’t begin any Kozzie deals in earnest until we closed the Bolton deal. That was the one we had plotted for all year, including making deals in principle with Shai and his manager. Unfortunately that one took too long to complete and we would have only had that last 24hrs to cobble together a deal to satisfy Dees.

Also think we would have needed to get another pick in this years draft to make it happen - Dees wanted picks in this draft not next years.
Pick 14 alone wouldn’t have gotten it done I dont think. Not when hes contracted and Dees have all the leverage, to convince them to trade would have required massive overs which we might have struggled with based on available currency at the time

Basically Kozi was keen, but Dees weren't and we had other priorities to attend to first before we could try change their mind. Which matches up with Rhinos reporting

We have everything we need to win if we get kozzy, you have to put faith in the team from that point to get it done


There will be a cliff about 6 years on but you have to back walls to nail multiple picks over those years

Two firsts for a future second coming back.

Kozzie finishes the forward line for the next 6-7 years.
We’ve got the talls and the smalls covered.

If Robinson keeps going the way he is we’re going through need points in 2026.
We’ve got Whan and Hart to take in 2025.
Robinson, Reid, Johnson and Erasmus is a good group of young mids to go with Brayshaw, Serong and Young.
Will be interesting to see if we have continuing interest in Warner.
May need to focus on a running half back.

If he still wants to come be hard to see how we’re not trading 2027 first round too.

This year we may struggle as players like Fyfe, Walters, O'Meara, Aish play less football in the best 22. That is over 1000 games of experience there, and I think most would only have 1 or 2 in the best 22.

If they are replaced by Erasmus, Reid, Banfield and Wagner, then it will be interesting to see how we handle certain in game situations or if we need to wait until quarter time or half time to fix issues in our team.

A good experienced team with several smart on field leaders, can adjust the game plan very quickly.
The mid team can adjust the game plan at quarter time.
An in experienced team, it may take 5 or 6 training to work it out.


A separate question, but do we an on field coach? Pearce looks to be pretty good. Not sure about Brayshaw and Serong.
What about the forward line?

Not sure about Brayshaw and Serong..... just wondering what signs of leadership you might be hoping to see from them to give you more confidence.

Also, in the forward line, Treacy is stepping up confidently.

I guess their are two types of leadership (well at least 2).

1. Is off field - setting training standards, driving culture, ensuring everyone is happy etc etc.
2. Is tactical nous, and tweaking the game plan on the fly to exploit weaknesses in the opposition, or stop the opposition from getting on a run.



I think Brayshaw, and Serong and very good at the first, but I am not sure about the 2nd. Not sure about Pearce either.

Nick Maxwell was brilliant at organising Collingwood's defense. Sam Mitchell would have been brilliant at organising Hawthorn and ensuring the midfield was set up correctly.

If you have on field coaches, then you don't need to wait until quarter time for the coach to correct the issue.


FYI - Brayshaw was talking about ensuring everyone is focused during the game, on the right things. So this would be another thing a good leader does.

Just to be clear, not saying that are bad at the tactical side of things, I just don't know and with the exception of a defender organising a backline it is hard to see (for myself at least).

And given those 2 midfielders are performing at their current levels while apparently lacking on-field leadership, we have so much upside to come. Young also seems to show leadership qualities.

• Sturt probably. Freddie doesn't play close to goal so it doesn't affect him.
